Even if he has changed, you can forgive him and

move on. Maybe you are afraid that no one else will

have you or maybe he has brainwashed you into

thinking that he has loved you for a long time but

abuse is not love. Molestation is not love. He took

advantage of you then and maybe he is taking advan-

tage of you now.

Your mother and aunt probably understand what

happened to you as a child and they know that you

deserve a fresh relationship that is not messy. If I were

them, I would not want him at my house either.

He committed a crime, damaged your self-esteem

and stole your innocence. While it may seem comfort-

able now, later on you will look back and wish some-

one had told you that you are way too special to be

with someone who has hurt you in such a bad way.

Dear Koren,I am 19 years old and my mother and aunt do not

want me to date my boyfriend because he got introuble for being with me when I was 13. If I am anadult now, is it not better if I go with somebody Ialready know, than to be sleeping around? Ijust want to be happy but I am fed up of how they arebehaving and they don’t let him come to the house. What do I do? –JT

Dear JT,

You are an adult and have the right to date anyone

you want, but be aware that there are consequences

for everything you do. When you sit and think that this

is the person who cared so little about you to take

your innocence at the tender age of 13, is that some-

one that you can trust? You deserve to be in a good,

loving relationship with someone who loves you and

respects you. Helping you is nice, but that is not all

you need.

What happens if when you are too mature for him

and he decides that he needs to find someone else

who is younger? How will you deal with that? Yes, you

are correct, sleeping around is not a good idea but

By Dean “The Sportsman” Greenaway

“The Sportsman” Turns 20It was the meeting that changed my life and

launched a new career 11 days before I’d know I wouldengage in it.

I’d been covering sports in the Territory for the BVIBeacon, after Karl Dawson (now president of HLSCC)went to further his education at the University of theWest Indies in 1986.

Over those first eight years and a bit bored withmy primary job at the time, Inoticed that local sports wasbeing thoroughly neglected. Iknew everything that happenedwithin West Indies Cricket and inthe NBA, NFL and Major LeagueBaseball as many things on thelocal scene went underground.

After some thought, I put aproposal together to present toZBVI 780 AM and ZROD 103.7 FMand wrote both a letter. RodneyHerbert said he was interestedand set up a meeting following an industry meetingabroad.

During our meeting, I launched my proposal tohave sports e-mailed so that his on air personnelcould use it.

“Why don’t’ you come in and do it,” he asked, catching me off guard. The room seem to go dark andI started to sweat for what seemed like five minutesbefore I recovered and stammered...

“Who me, me? You mean me doing radio sports?I don’t know anything about radio,” I protested.

“We’ll work with you,” he assured. “How aboutstarting on Monday?”

“Monday? You mean this coming Monday? I can’tdo that,” I retorted during our Thursday October 20,1994 meeting. “How about November 1?” I offered.

“Good. We’ve got a deal. You’ll be doing ZRODSports from November 1,” he said.

I tried to get my head wrapped around it and hadjust 11 days. I called my brother who was in radio onZBVI in 70s and 80s as the Black Machine to share thenews.

What have I really gotten myself into I thoughtafter I left the meeting. Everyone in radio had a name

and here I was about to enterunfamiliar territory and had noidentity.

For the next several days, Iwent through name after namebut nothing clicked.

Four days after our Thursdaymeeting, that Tuesday night whenI walked into the BVI Beaconoffice to drop off my weeklysports column, one of the guyssaid as he usually did “herecomes the sportsman.”

“Ah,” I thought out loud. “That’s it. I’ve got myradio name. I’ll be Dean “The Sportsman” Greenaway.

Over the next few days I bounced it off a few trust-ed people who liked it.

On November 1, 1994, I nervously made my livedebut.

“Good afternoon everyone, I’m Dean “TheSportsman” Greenaway and from now on, I’ll be bring-ing you ZROD Sports….”

I can’t believe it’s 20 years already since “TheSportsman” was born, and I entered an area of jour-nalism – radio that just 11 days before I had no idea I’dbe getting into.

It surely has been a great diverse experience cov-ering sports and connecting with fans over the last 20years.

I Do…I love weddings, so when one of my best friends

decided to tie the knot recently, my flight was

booked and before I knew it I was winging my way to

the UK to join in the celebrations.

The wedding was in Morecambe, an old-fash-

ioned northern seaside town in Lancashire in the

UK, which handily for me, is not far at all from my

family. However, having just arrived at Gatwick, the

journey started with a train ride from London to

Lancaster with three friends and before long we

were getting really excited at the prospect of the

wedding and the fun that was going to be had.

And we were not disappointed. When we arrived

at the hotel, the bride and groom to be were already

there together with a sprinkling of their friends and

family. I have known the bride most of my life and we

know lots of the same people – so it was wonderful

to be able to share their special day and see lots of

friends too. The hotel was spectacular, situated right

there on the beachfront combining architecturally

the old with the new. The weather was also perfect

which is saying something for the north of England

in the middle of summer.

So after checking in and checking out our rooms,

we started to celebrate the nuptials with the other

wedding guests. The couple has a four-year-old

daughter, Molly and a few other children were also

invited and catered for well with tailor made goody

bags, an old fashioned ice cream cart and, playing

on a continuous loop in an adjacent room – that

must see film Sparkle. The adults had a fine time too. The ceremony was

lovely and there was not a dry eye in the house when

we watched the bride, Elisabeth walking down the

aisle to stand next to her husband to be, Jeremy to

exchange their vows. In true wedding fashion, we all

sat down to a late lunch, and speeches while the DJ

set up the evenings entertainment, made even more

fun with a “photo booth” which provided endless

entertainment and also a brilliant keepsake for the

guests and the happy couple.

The next day we said goodbye to friends old and

new and before long it was time to wave off the happy

couple as they drove away for their honeymoon, a lit-

tle exhausted maybe, but excited about the prospect

of spending the rest of their lives together.

How much difference does a decade make for a

familiar actor?

David Hyde Pierce is about to supply an answer.

A four-time Emmy winner as Niles on Frasier, the tel-evision and stage star starts his first continuing

series job since as he joins CBS’ The Good WifeSunday, Nov. 2. He’ll recur as media personality

Frank Prady, who decides he can have more impact

by entering Chicago politics ... attracting the atten-

tion of Alicia and Eli (Julianna Margulies and Alan

Cumming).

Also preparing for his Broadway directing debut

with next spring’s musical It Shoulda Been You, TonyAward recipient Pierce confirms a big reason for his

Good Wife involvement is that “it shoots in NewYork, and that is very appealing. I remember when

we were doing Frasier, the casting director and theproducers had a big attraction to bringing in New

York theater actors.

“It was always about what they brought to play-

ing the scenes more than just name recognition, and

that’s what I’m loving about this show,” adds Pierce.

“The core actors are all so fine, many of them — like

Alan, Julianna, Christine Baranski and Chris Noth —

with solid grounding in the theater. Maybe I’m prej-

udiced, but I think that says something about why

they’re so good. And at the simplest level, these

The Going Is ‘Good’ for David Hyde Pierce In His TV Return

people are my friends, so it’s a group I wanted to

hang out with.”

Discovering his Good Wife character as he filmsis “a lot of fun,” Pierce claims. “It forces you to let go

and just trust the writing, trust your fellow actors and

trust your instincts. It’s a kind of television that’s new

for me, and I’m really enjoying it.”

Though his Niles portrayal remains on view in

Frasier repeats, Pierce feels enough time has passedfor him to build a new home-screen image.

“I’ve been away from acting the character for so

long, maybe the mannerisms and voice patterns

have faded away. Also, it’s 10 years since we finished

the show, but it’s been 20 years or more since we

started it ... so I’m significantly older than in those

reruns people keep seeing. That’s a little depressing,

but it helps.”

David Hyde Pierce begins a recurring role on TheGood Wife Sunday on CBS.

Welcome to ShondalandThursday nights have been dubbed TGIT (Thank

God It’s Thursday) a different mantra from the usual

TGIF. Why? You ask. Well, because there is a new TV

queen who has taken television drama by storm and

her name is Shonda Rhimes. The driving creative

force behind one of the most successful television

medical dramas since ER, you may have heard of it

– Grey’s Anatomy. Well the screenwriting queen is

also behind Scandal, which everyone thinking they

are “GLADIATORS in a suit” and the newest show

How To Get Away with Murder is now steaming up

and has television fans obsessed over Thursday

nights. Of course, writing comes easy for the lifelong

storyteller, who was tape-recording stories for her

parents to transcribe before she even learned to

spell, yet entering into the world of show business

proved a formidable task for the artist who wasn't

used to the idea of dealing with network executives.

Shonda debuted Grey’s Anatomy in March 2005,

and it is now in its 11th season. The series follows

the lives of the medical interns and residents at Grey

Sloan Memorial Hospital as they try to balance their

personal lives with the demands of their medical

training. After the wild success of the show the tal-

ented Rhimes penned the spin off Private Practice

another medical based drama, which also had a

stellar run. Shonda then came back with Scandal

starring Kerry Washington or as we all know her

Olivia Pope. The show takes place in Washington,

DC where Miss Pope who was once the White House

Communications Director leaves to start her own

Crisis Management Firm, Olivia Pope & Associates.

But no matter how hard she tries, she can’t leave

parts of her past behind. Her torrid love affair with

Fitz, the President of the United States is only the tip

of the scandalous iceberg. With both shows doing

well dominating the TV ratings on Thursday nights,

this fall Shonda proved that her imagination has lim-

ited boundaries when she debuted How To Get

Away with Murder starring Viola Davis, has already

been getting a lot of buzz. Viola Davis is a law profes-

sor at a prestigious university in Philadelphia who

with her students becomes entwined in a murder

plot that will change the course of their lives forever.

Never before has a screenwriter been this infa-

mous, with Thursday night comprising entirely of

shows from her Shondaland Production banner.

With the way she had managed to keep our atten-

tion with each new adventure – I think it’s safe to say

she owns Thursday night.

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid withdigits so that each column, each row, andeach of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that com-pose the main grid contains all of the digitsfrom 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each rowor column within the entire square.
