ADVISOR’S NOTE
The Placement Season of 2012-13 has been a
remarkable one and it gives me great pleasure
to present the Annual Placement Report for the
same. Lady Shri Ram College has continued its
tradition of being the best in placements across
the country. LSR secured the number one rank
in the Week Survey for Best Colleges in the
country, and the number two rank in the India Today Nielsen
Survey. There were five themes of evaluation, Job Prospects was
one of them. It’s a matter of great honour and pride for the cell. The
Placement Cell has been lauded for its organized and efficient
working and professionalism. There were over 90 companies on
campus this season visiting for placements and internships. This
number is comprised of a diversified mix of consultancies, retail,
media houses, investment banks, NGOs, publishing houses, schools
& research organizations.Over 300 students participated in the
placement process from all the departments. Over 100 students
have been placed in this academic session. The average package was
Rs. 6.5 lakhs per annum, the highest pay package being Rs. 13 lakhs
per annum. All the courses offered by LSR continue to be in high
demand in the industry. I am confident that through the Placement
Cell, we will provide a strong human resource base to the
organizations and a platform to our students to shape up their
personalities and achieve their career goals. After all, we believe in
possibilities not in limits.

ADVISOR,PLACEMENT CELL

COORDINATOR’S NOTE
“I had the privilege of being associated with one
of the most important societies at LSR – The
Placement Cell. With the support of our Principal,
Vice Principal and Advisor, the year 2012-13 saw
a substantial increase in the number companies
looking to hire young minds from LSR both in the
form of placements and internships. We were
fortunate to invite Barclays, JSW, The Times of
India, BHP Billiton, Bain & Company among many others for
internships. As a result of our efforts to diversify portfolios,
companies such as Educational Initiatives, Michael Page and Wieden
+ Kennedy recruited students for the positions of Academic
Mentors, HR Consultants and Advertising Executives.
The Placement Cell has been able to achieve its annual goals under
the mentorship of our staff advisor, Dr. Arvind Kumar. My team has
been a pillar of support and together we worked with zest and zeal.
Being actively involved in the placement process has helped me
hone my organizational, communication and leadership skills. I
hope the year 2013-14 brings new opportunities for our students
and the Placement Cell Union continues to welcome more
organisations to hire the talent at LSR. “

Coordinator’s Note
“Its not true success unless it gets repeated”
And in our case, gets repeated four times. Rated as the
Best Arts College four times in a row by highly acclaimed
surveys, Lady Shri Ram College has remained a haven for
the many aspiring minds and renowned recruiters for a
very long time. What this college makes of its students at
the end of three years is clearly reflected in the record
breaking placements we have every year and this year too we repeat the
tradition. Therefore, we are ecstatic to present the Annual Report of Placement
Cell for the year 2012-13. This year, we focused on internships and getting a
diverse set companies for all 15 courses the college offers. The efforts of the
entire Placement Cell, faculty and administration finally bore fruits as 94
companies visited the College for placements.
What remained the most striking feature of this year’s placement season was
not just the large number of companies coming to the college but in fact our
success in achieving the goal set for the year. The internships improved in both
quality and quantity. The second goal of challenging the market notion of
placements being solely for the so-called ‘mathematical based disciplines’ was
also met with great panache. We saw diversity in job profiles and companies
looking for talent irrespective of the educational backgrounds. This was one of
the most important achievements of the year and it gives us immense pride in
having accomplished this. Overall, the year 2012-13, remains the most
wonderful and memorable year for Placement Cell as we surpassed so many
hurdles and learnt from our mistakes. I am sure that the year 2013-14 will bring
in only much brighter prospects for the college and the new Placement Cell will
achieve much higher feats. I wish the students and the Cell best of luck for the
year ahead. Make the most of what this college has to offer to you!

COORDINATOR’S NOTE
“The year 2012-13 had been remarkable in
terms of Lady Shri Ram College’s performance
in Placements. The year saw the regular
visitors to the campus such as Deutsche Bank,
Bain Capability Centre, The Essex Lake Group,
McKinsey and Co. and D.E. Shaw and Co. Few
notable additions to the list this year were
The Monitor Group, Weiden and Kennedy and
Takshashila Consulting.
All events on-campus were conducted with the greatest level of
efficiency and Lady Shri Ram College continued to impress
recruiters with its hospitality. In the words of the Recruiting team
from Weiden and Kennedy, “No college has these high standards of
hospitality and management.” With a supporting team and an
extremely helpful and calm advisor- Arvind Sir, the process became
much easier and fruitful. We have managed to retain the average
package to 4.5-5 lpa in spite of the slumps and economy down
surges.
Lady Shri Ram College for Women is all set to compete with the
professional degree colleges and become the top recruitment
avenue for companies looking for fresh vibrant young talent in
India.”

STUDENTS SPEAK
“I was recruited by McKinsey and Company in October last year. The
process was extremely smooth and comfortable and the Placement
Cell conveyed all important information regarding the process
regularly. The pre placement talk was well attended and well
managed by the cell, and went off without a glitch despite it being
the very first company on campus. The interviews workshop
organised by the company was also very beautifully co-ordinated by
the cell co-ordinators. On the day of the interviews, I had the full
support of the cell and was fortunate to land the job. I give the cell
full credit for getting a reputable company like McKinsey to come
for placements at LSR, thus providing a brilliant career option for
the students.”

"The recruitment process set up by the LSR Placement Cell was
extremely smooth and robust. Educational Initiatives was the
second company on campus and we had a great Pre-Placement talk
by them. I was extremely impressed by their vision of "a World
where Children everywhere are learning with Understanding."
During the entire process we were provided with constant support
by both the company and the Placement Cell. Even during the
interview process, which went on for hours, the Placement Cell
members were actively involved. It's been great working
for Educational Initiatives over the past month. At EI, I am glad to
have met so many like-minded people. The work is invigorating,
Page 12 of 18
and I feel that am learning and growing every day. It is great to be
part of a company which consciously tries to inculcate practices of
giving back to the community, an exemplary example is EI's
Mindspark Centres, which allow students of the urban poor section
access to a better education via Mindspark, our trademark
product. I truly believe that the development of the education
sector can lead to a kinder, braver, better world and I feel that EI is a
great place for working on the same.

“The recruitment process of The Smart Cube for its editorial
department was a rigorous one, involving five rounds of verbal and
written tests, and two rounds of interviews. All of these tested
language and editing skills, and one's ability to fit in with the
company's ethos and practices. The other candidates were BA
(Honours) English and MA English students from Delhi University
colleges. I am the only one that has been recruited by The Smart
Cube as an editor. I am grateful to the Placement Cell for procuring
such an excellent job opportunity for English (Honours) students,
and glad that my education at LSR allowed me to take advantage of
this opportunity.”

DEPARTMENT WISE STATISTICS
Placements this year witnessed a notable spread across
disciplines offered by the college. Most companies
preferred a mixed batch of recruits who came from varied
academic backgrounds. However, Commerce and
Economics departments were the usual pick among other
companies.

CSR Wing at Placement Cell
The CSR Wing at Placement Cell, a brain child of Dr. Meenakshi Gopinath and
worked upon by our advisor, Dr. Arvind Kumar, was dedicated towards the
specially-abled students in terms of providing them with equal placement
opportunities. The coordinator, Shailaja Taparia, along with the Wing’s
members helped these students make integral career choices. Lalita from the
Hindi department was recruited by SBI, making the CSR initiative a fruitful one.
INTERNSHIPS AT LSR
The academic year of 2012-2013 was very successful in terms of internship opportunities for
the students of LSR. Various companies like Barclays, JSW, The Times Of India, CPE Advisory,
PWC, AmbitionME, Rakshak Foundation, Knowcross Solutions, SkillHippo, Fluidra, among many
others, recruited interns from LSR.
INTERNS SPEAK
INTERNSHIP AT BARCLAYS -Akanksha Sinha
“The journey to bagging Barclay’s Summer Internship began with a talk that was organised by
the Placement Cell at LSR. A very well organised seminar, it played a pivotal role in making me
aware of The journey to bagging Barclay’s Summer Internship began with a talk that was
organised by the Placement Cell at LSR. A very well organised seminar, it played a pivotal role in
making me aware of the Programme-its pre-requisites, various rounds and more importantly the
importance of its impact on my CV.
The first step was a rigorous series of two tests which assessed mental aptitude, awareness and
technique with speed. Clearing the tests opened the doors of the second round-the Group
Assessments, followed by the final interview round. The Placement Cell was very supportive and
co-operative throughout - answering queries and providing appropriate information. I managed
to get through the extensive interview and get the much coveted summer internship at Barclays.
It was an amazing experience!!
I am thankful to the placement cell co-ordinators and LSR for the support and a platform to help
achieve my career goals. “
INTERNSHIP AT JSW -Meghna Jain
JSW, one of the largest Indian steel conglomerates, came to LSR on an invitation by the
placement cell to recruit students for their summer internship programme from May’13 to July
13. JSW SIP was a one of its kind internship which was open to all undergraduate students from
different academic backgrounds. This 10 week program gave the students an opportunity to get
associated and work with a global brand in core economic sectors..
The attractive feature of the internship was that the most outstanding interns would walk away
with a pre-placement offer which is a direct entry into JSW’s fast track graduation rotation
programme. Being such a prestigious and highly demanding internship, JSW kept a grueling 3
round recruitment process in order to select the desirable interns. The entire recruitment process
organized by the placement cell at college was extremely efficient and smooth. The two months
spent at JSW was a life turning experience for all the interns who undertook the internship. I
would like to thank placement cell, LSR for acquainting us with this wonderful opportunity.
