LAUNCH 1We are introducing this season’s theme with May Morris. Daughter of William Morris, May was one of the leading artists of the Arts & Crafts Movement. She designed wallpaper, jewellery and embroideries and was a dedicated supporter of other craftswomen. Our design team took inspiration from her floral embroideries, using shades of pink and eucalyptus, balanced with neutral tones. We also looked at hand-painted Morris & Co tiles, for a fresh summer palette of indigo blue with honeysuckle accents.

LAUNCH 2Our August collection finds inspiration in the garden. The Seasalt design team explored the work of Gertrude Jekyll, a famous gardener influenced by the Arts & Crafts Movement, who often holidayed in Cornwall. Gertrude took a particularly artistic approach to planting, creating informal, painterly effects with colour drifts. Our new collection is inspired by the loose illustrations in her sketchbooks and sun-baked summer flowers of her gardens. Prints include hand-drawn tulips and echinacea and our palette mixes moss greens, cornflower blues and warm cinnamon tones.

LAUNCH 3Finding special fabrics that work perfectly for each piece of clothing is one of the most important parts of creating a Seasalt collection. So this month, our design team looked to the ‘mother of hand-weaving’, Ethel Mairet for inspiration. Our rich seasonal colour story draws on Ethel’s natural dyes, with combinations such as Masala and Marine, Tansy and Aran. New prints feature woven textures and some of the flora and fauna Ethel used in the dyeing process, while our knitwear captures the handcrafted feel of artisan designs, created on the loom.

LAUNCH 4This month, we bring our Arts & Crafts theme home to West Cornwall and Newlyn Copper Works. Famously mined in the local area, copper has been used in ship building for generations. When local fishermen were unable to go to sea in bad weather, they crafted objects and art works in copper as an alternative source of income. This month’s collection contrasts the subtle shimmer of copper tones with oxidised greens and deep sea blues. Scenes of Newlyn harbour feature in our prints, which are inspired by the relief techniques used in copper craft.

LAUNCH 5Our November collection looks forward to Christmas, with rich colours, painterly prints and luxurious velvet. The Seasalt team looked to Arts & Crafts silk printers, Crysede for our most eye-catching designs. Crysede was based in Newlyn in West Cornwall in the 1920s and was known for its brightly coloured, modern patterns, often inspired by the Cornish landscape. Their fluid abstract designs were based on watercolour sketches, similar to the painterly style of our own Seasalt prints. Adding to the festive mood, we have a wide choice of elegant dresses, statement knitwear and Sailor Shirts with a touch of sparkle.
