1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 This AIC replaces and cancels AIC 002/2011 A (issued 10 FEB 2011).

2. IMPLEMENTATION STATUS

2.1 RNAV 5 (B-RNAV) is implemented.

2.2 RNAV 1 (P-RNAV) is implemented.

2.3 RNP APCH to LNAV minima is implemented.

2.4 RNP APCH to LNAV/VNAV minima is implemented.

2.5 RNP APCH to LPV minima (APV SBAS) is implemented.

Refer to Swiss AIP for the current routes and airports implementation status.

3. ICAO-DOC 9613 PERFORMANCE BASED NAVIGATION IMPLEMENTATION

3.1 From 22 NOV 2007, the Doc 9613 Performance Based Navigation Manual is publishing the specifications for RNAV operations. This manual is aiming to have worldwide harmonised RNAV procedures. This manual is applicable within Swiss Airspace and is the basis for the Swiss Air Navigation Services Provider skyguide, the airport operators, the flight operators and the Federal Office for Civil Aviation to establish future RNAV implementation concept.

3.2 With effect from the 11 MAR 2010, all new RNAV procedures published within the Swiss Airspace will be in accordance with the ICAO Doc 9613.

3.3 During the transition phase, it is recognised at European level that B-RNAV is equivalent to RNAV 5 and P-RNAV is equivalent to RNAV 1. Ref Swiss AIP sections GEN 1.5, ENR 1.1 and ENR 1.3.

3.4 GBAS which is not part of the PBN Manual is also considered.

4. CONSEQUENCES ON THE CURRENT RNAV PROCEDURES IN SWISS AIRSPACE

4.1 All RNAV 5 (B-RNAV) procedures remain available with a conventional underlay up to the MSA / MVA (Minimum Sector Altitude / Minimum Vectoring Altitude). All RNAV 5 (B-RNAV) Standard Arrival Routes are fully located above the MSA / MVA.

4.2 All RNAV procedures that are not declared RNAV 1 (P-RNAV) currently in operation are compliant with the §4.1 above.

5. NEED FOR RNAV 1 IN SWITZERLAND

5.1 The implementation of RNAV 1 in Switzerland is the basis to allow potential decommissioning of some ground based infrastructure. RNAV 1 is foreseen to also allow a more optimised routing in the Terminal Areas.

6. FLIGHT PLANNING

6.1 In all cases, if the aircraft joins the RNAV structure, a corresponding RNAV departure route shall be filed in the flight plan. For the Initial Flight Plan Processing System (IFPS) it is not possible to include additional DCT routings for the Zurich region.

6.2 For those operators / aircraft with a P-RNAV or an equivalent RNAV 1 approval, both letters "R" and "P" shall be inserted in field 10 of the FPL. Operators flying RNAV without P-RNAV (RNAV 1) approval solely the letter "R" shall be inserted in field 10.

7. OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

7.1 LSZH RNP APCH RWY 14 available on request. Expect Radar Vectoring.

8. INFORMATION FOR OPERATORS NOT ABLE TO MEET THE P-RNAV APPROVAL

8.1 Alternative temporary procedures for those operators that have not yet received an approval for the operations of P-RNAV or RNAV 1 are still available.

8.2 The procedures for non approved aircraft are published by AIRAC Supplement. It is currently foreseen that these procedures will be limited in time, up to a point where sufficient traffic is capable of flying the RNAV 1 procedures and where no delay is generated by additional workload on the air traffic control units responsible for the handling of the traffic.

8.3 These procedures cover most of the pure RNAV 1 procedures and base on a deviation to the ICAO PANS-OPS design criteria, where an extended dead reckoning track was implemented.
