BORROWINGBorrowed items are on loan to you for four weeks, with the possibility of two renewals. Within reason you may borrow as many items as you need. We lend a variety of materials including books, DVDs, company reports and back issues of some journals and newspapers. You will need to show your ID card when borrowing materials. We operate a fines system, so please ensure that items are returned before the date due.

Beware! If items are sufficiently overdue, the automated system will not allow you to borrow or reserve anything.

RESERVATIONSAny items currently on loan may be reserved. A charge will be made for items borrowed via the British Library Service.

CLASS LOANS AND ASSIGNMENT PACKSIt is possible to obtain a class loan of materials on any subject. This may be used with your class for one lesson or put into your care for several weeks.

If you have useful support materials for a student assignment you have set, why not place them with us as an ‘Assignment Pack’ to be signed out by your students?

Key items from our own stock may be placed on short loan for the duration of an assignment.

INDUCTION/USER EDUCATIONAt the beginning of the academic year all full-time students will complete a basic online induction quiz. Staff teaching evening programmes will need to book sessions directly with the LRC. We offer subject-based tours and ILT sessions showing your students the range of online information available.

ORDERING MATERIALSWe send relevant subject catalogues to the appropriate sections as they arrive. Why not use these or let us help you look through other bibliographical sources? We rely on your purchase recommendations to ensure an up-to-date and relevant LRC collection for your students.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGYWe provide a range of facilities including internet access plus software packages offering DTP and word processing. You will be able to scan or print your work in colour and mono. Also we offer you access to a wealth of online information sources including specialist databases and electronic books. Information about these is contained in a separate leaflet. Ask the LRC staff for details

An automated PC booking system operates in the LRC. You can book classes onto designated machines up to a week in advance in person or by phone.

We can help you locate information using the available online databases or the Internet. If you or your students discover useful websites, then why not pass them onto The Professional Development Team (ext 232) for inclusion in your online curriculum area?

Don’t forget that we are information specialists and not technicians. We have skills in many areas, but when difficult technical problems arise it is the Technical Computer Support Section that is there to help (extension 239).

OTHER SUPPORT SERVICESWe also provide binding, photocopying and laminating facilities. A large range of stationery items are on sale to support these services such as comb and slide binders, covers, laminating pouches and acetate sheets. We also sell general stationery items including lined, plain and graph paper, pens, pencils and reasonably priced USB pen drives.

If you are ordering items for your department, this should be done via your divisional administrator.

CURRICULUM LINK PERSONNELEach member of the LRC team is the designated link person for specific curriculum areas. At the beginning of each academic year the LRC personnel will be contacting your areas and outlining how they can support you. The LRC Team Leader or curriculum link personnel will be happy to attend any subject/programme staff meeting to outline our support activities. Not sure who your link is? Ask one of the LRC team.
