Loxford Primary Link

Here are some of the exciting things that Reception will be learning this half term

Our Themes/Topics are Growing / healthy eating / the farm

Gateway to Learning

Communication and Language

To listen to stories, accurately anticipating key events

and respond to what they hear with relevant

comments and questions.

To develop their own explanations by connecting

ideas or events.

Mathematics

To double and halve amounts.

To share amounts equally.

To complete number patterns/ sequences.

To read, draw and understand tally charts and

pictograms.

Understanding the

World

To complete a

simple computer

program.

To talk about the

changes that

occur to plants

and animals over

time.

Personal. Social and Emotional Development

To take on a role and complete set tasks as part

of a group.

To join in discussions about stories and books

that emphasise moral issues.

To engage in circle time – talk, listen, ask

questions and contribute our feelings and ideas.

To develop thinking skills through decision

making and respond to ‘why’ questions.

Physical Development

To join in PE lessons that focus on games (following

rules, applying skills and working as a team).

Expressive Arts and Design

To create 3D models, paintings

and drawings related to our topic.

To express themselves through

music by creating their own dance

routine.

To act in role, telling their own

stories through roleplay. Our

roleplay themes this term will be

garden centre, the farmyard,

camping in the jungle and

veterinarian.

You can help by:

Reading with your child

daily and encouraging

them to answer questions

about the story.

Practising reading high

frequency words and

complete assigned weekly

homework.

Working on your child’s

targets and support your

child in meeting their

targets.

Ensuring that your child

wears suitable clothing

dependent on weather.

Ensuring that your child’s

clothing and PE kit are

standard uniform and are

clearly labelled.

Talking to your child about

what they have learnt in

class.

Contacting the school if

your child is not well

enough to attend.

Bringing in any plant seeds

and/or cuttings to support

us in improving our

Reception garden.

Literacy

To read and write about non-fiction books. Learning

about contents and glossary page.

To write for a range of purposes related to fiction

stories. For example, retelling a story, write a

descriptive sentence about the setting or writing an

alternative ending to a story.
