AttendanceEveryday,yourdaughterisengagedinavarietyoflearningactivitiesthatincludegroupwork,collaborationandteacherinstructiontime.Eachdaybuildsonthenextandyourdaughter’sparticipationnotonlyinfluencesherownlearning,butthelearningofthoseinherclassroom.TakingyourdaughteroutofschoolunnecessarilydisruptsnotonlyherroutinebutalsotheroutineofthosewithwhomsheislearningAlso,missedinstructionmayleavegapsinneededskills.Therefore,weaskthatyouhonoryourdaughter’sscheduleandthescheduleofourteachersbynotplanningtripsandunnecessaryabsencesoutsideofthealreadyscheduledschoolholidays.AbsencesTheLowerSchoolrecognizesillness,accident,oradeathinthefamilyasexcusedabsences.Call537-1400,oremailtheclassroomteacherorBarbaraLeachbleach@stmarysschool.orgby9:00am.Make-upWorkforAbsencesMake-upworkwillnotbesenthomebeforeorduringanyabsenceunlessitisanextendedillness.Uponreturn,theteacherwillprovideherstudentwithnecessarymake-upwork.Make-upworkcanneveradequatelyreplacethelearningtimethatwaslost.Thestudentmayberequiredtomakeupworkduringbreaksorafterschool.Occasionally,atutormaybeneeded.AbsencesduetoTrips/VacationsIfavacationisscheduledduringtheschoolyear,parentsmustnotifytheDivisionHeadstatingthereasonfortheabsenceandthedatesinvolved.

St.Mary'swillmakeanindependentdecisionregardinganyschoolclosures,latestarts,orearlydismissals.

• AnnouncementsaboutschoolclosuresandemergencyearlydismissalswillbecommunicatedonthehomepageoftheSt.Mary’swebsite,throughbroadcastemail,and,whenpossible,throughautomatedtelephonemessaging.

• Intheeventofanunscheduledearlydismissal,pick-upprocedureswillbecommunicatedtoparentsthisway,aswell.

• Inordertomaintainanorderlydismissal,pleasedonotcometotheschooluntiltheschoolhascommunicatedbestpickupprocedures.

SevereWeatherIntheeventofsevereweather(withorwithoutwarningsirens)duringtheunloadingorloadingofcarpoolsandthedismissalofolderstudentstotheircars,wewillkeepgirlsinourcare,havingallstudentsgotothepre-arrangedSevereWeatherDrillareas.Carpoollinesandschooldismissalwillbepaused,especiallywhenlightningispresent,untilitissafetoresume.Parentsandchildrenstillincarsarewelcometoparkandjoinusinsidethebuildinginoursafeareas.
