Finding a solution for a drive task is always exciting because
each one is different. But one thing remains the same: the need
for a viable, safe and integrated solution. Siemens offers this so-
lution using drive systems and automation technology ranging
from frequency inverters and distributed drive systems through
to a complete range of low-voltage motors: standard three-
phase motors that satisfy diverse requirements, but also tailor-
made special designs. There are motors for every sector, every
application and for worldwide use. In terms of innovation, they
are always well ahead of the pack.
Always the right power
With an output range from 0.06 to 1000 kW, our low-voltage motors can drive
anything. Depending on your requirements, we offer energy-saving motors for
an efficient energy balance, explosion-protected motors for maximum safety
standards, NEMA motors for worldwide use as well as sector-specific or custom-
ized motors. And all with certified quality according to DIN EN ISO 9001. They
are standard-equipped with a wide range of features for optimum efficiency
and economy at a price/performance ratio that will impress you. We also
guarantee that wherever you are in the world, we will always be there for you –
with production, sales and service.
Modular expansion as far as a complete solution
Thanks to the modular installation concept, our low-voltage motors can be ex-
panded to meet increased requirements and integrated into complete solutions.
Our motors and our MICROMASTER frequency inverters, for example, perfectly
interact to achieve problem-free functionality and a long service life. This all
adds up to a totally integrated and uniform drive system.

Energy costs account for 97% of the life cycle costs of a motor – with procurement and instal-
lation only accounting for 3%. Already now, energy-optimized drives in Germany are saving
about 1.5 billion euros annually. How? With our powerful energy-saving motors. Apart from
the excellent price/performance ratio and the high degree of operational reliability, they also
guarantee a significant reduction in operating costs, up to 45% less power loss and a longer
service life. They fit in every drive system concept and cover more than 90% of all imaginable
applications worldwide.

Explosion-protected motorsMaximum safety with high efficiency
In hazardous environments, such as in chemical plants, the oil industry or in gas
works, motors have to comply with the strictest safety standards for the protection of
life, machines and the environment. With the explosion-protected motors from
Siemens you are going further than the basic safety requirements: our rugged EEx
motors operate completely reliably even under the most extreme conditions – and
this has been proven worldwide a hundred thousand times over. And what is more,
there are no gaps in our EEx motor range, they meet all requirements with maximum
safety and high efficiency during operation.

Sector-specific motorsTailor-made for every application
Every sector makes its own demands on drive technology. Our recognition of this charac-
terizes Siemens as a complete supplier with many years of experience. You can therefore
be sure that our engineers are able to understand your individual task specification totally
– standard motors from Siemens drive almost every sector worldwide. And that is not all.
To guarantee you optimum efficiency, we are constantly working on innovative solutions.
We can therefore offer you, in addition to our standard program, sector-specific motors
that satisfy the requirements of specific sectors in full and therefore guarantee maximum
performance.
Smoke Extraction Motors
Our new certified smoke extraction
motors have been specially de-
veloped for buildings or construc-
tion sites with smoke control sys-
tems. This includes buildings fre-
quented by the public in large
numbers, such as discotheques,
shopping centers, movie theaters,
airports, enclosed car parks as well
as industrial buildings, staircases,
tunnels and so on. Our smoke ex-
traction motors can even cope with
high ambient temperatures safely.
In the event of an accident, they
reduce the heat loading on the
building and keep access and
escape routes smoke-free.
Advantages
• Motor series up to 200 kW certi-fied in accordance with the EN12101-3 standard of June 2002
• Reliable fan operation in theevent of an accident
• Duration of operation in theevent of a fault is higher thanrated values
• Axial or radial fan drive is pos-sible
• Smoke-free access routes for ap-propriate fire fighting and savinghuman life
• Reduction of secondary firedamage
• Available from 0.55 kW ratedoutput
• Can be used in previously certi-fied plants without the need forfurther testing
• Special designs are available
Marine motors
Specially designed for use on ships
below deck and for the offshore in-
dustry, our marine motors meet the
requirements of the leading classifi-
cation authorities (BV, DNV, GL, LRS)
and have type-test certificates up to
200 kW output. Acceptance testing
can also be performed for individ-
ual motors by a representative of
the marine classification authority
on request.
Roller conveyor motors
Process roller conveyors in revers-
ing rolling mills are almost exclu-
sively equipped with directly driv-
en rollers today. This places high
demands on the mechanical design
of the drive. Our three-phase roller
conveyor motors for inverter-fed
operation were designed to satisfy
these requirements. They are de-
signed as totally enclosed asyn-
chronous three-phase motors
with a housing of spheroid graphite
iron, ring ribs and strengthened
bearing brackets.
Customized motorsSpecial solutions
Over the years, we have developed a comprehensive range of standard motors for the
most diverse applications in drive technology consistently based on the precept of being
able to offer customers motors that are suitable for universal implementation, which pro-
vide improved operating performance and high serviceability. Despite this, many drive tasks
demand a special design – i.e. drives that deviate often considerably from the standard
design in active electrical performance or on the passive mechanical side. In cooperation
with our customers, we therefore develop technically and commercially optimized drive
solutions: your drive tailor-made.
An excerpt from our long
list of customized solutions:
• High-performance motors fortextile machines and com-pressors
• Motors with enhancedpower/weight ratios
• Liquid-cooled motors
• Synchronous generators forspare-current sources
• Motors for wood-processingequipment
• Integrated motors for refrig-erator compressors
• Roller conveyor motors forrough-running, e.g. rolling-mill drives
• Pump motors with specialshafts/special material
• Single-phase motors forindustrial applications
• Lifting gear drives
And what does your special
drive task look like?
Are you looking for a solutionto an extremely specific drivetask? No problem, our regionalrepresentatives in Germanyand our branch offices world-wide are always at your servicewith advice and action. Justcontact us without any com-mitment and we will definitelyfind the right solution.
