“Helping teachers, help students.”

St. Matthews Baptist Church is partnering with St. Matthews Elementary School to provide school supplies, copy paper for teachers, food for disadvantaged children, Box Tops for Education, and classroom helpers and tutors for each class. School Supplies!

We will be providing backpacks and school supplies for 60 disadvantaged children in our community. Stop by the big display board in the foyer any time between now and August 4th and pick a card to find out how you can help! Each card shows a specific school supply and the quantity needed. The list of supplies comes directly from JCPS. Please honor requested brand names, i.e. Crayola markers. Take as many as you like, but make sure you bring the supplies back to church and place them in the yellow school bus in the Foyer by August 4th! Tutors & Classroom Helpers!

We are looking for 44 people to serve as Tutors and Classroom Helpers at St. Matthews Elementary. Interested persons will be asked to serve a classroom for one hour per week for the entire school year. If you are interested in serving the community in this way, please stop by the designated table on Sunday mornings and fill out an application. All appli-cants will be required to fill out a background check, attend an orientation meeting on August 16th at SMBC, and attend a breakfast at St. Matthews Elementary on August 19th at 9:00 a.m. where you will be introduced to your teacher. Monetary Donations!

We are collecting monetary donations (cash or checks) that will go toward: (1) providing a box of copy paper for each St. Matthews Elementary School teacher and (2) working through Dare to Care to provide backpacks with food for dis-advantaged children to take home on weekends, and (3) helping families with the $25 supply fee required by the school. Please place all monetary donations in the designated box at the Welcome Center or bring to the Church Office. Box Tops for Education! We are collecting Box Tops for Education. Any donations received will be split equally between Sunrise Children’s Services and St. Matthews Elementary School. Here is how it works: BUY your favorite Box Tops products

Thank You

Dear church family, My family and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loving support through cards, flowers & kind condolences. Asa truly loved and supported our church through all the years that we have been members. When the kids and I talk of him in days and weeks to come, the church will always be a part of those memories. His desire was for the church to succeed and always made it his mission to help that happen. As my family contin-ues to attend St. Matthews Baptist Church, it will always be a sweet reminder of his legacy. He loved his church and we are so grateful to you for lifting us up during this dif-ficult time in our lives. With loving thanks, Sylvia Hord & Family

We have just received some excit-ing news. The Greater Louisville Association of Realtors will be sponsoring a golf outing on Mon-day, July 22 at the Oxmoor Country Club and God’s Designs will be one of 3 recipients to receive funds from the event. Would be great to have a team from SMBC to show support for the ministry. Lee Yates will be sending out info to all the golfers at SMBC so let him know if you are interested. There also will be op-portunities for businesses to become a sponsor. If anyone is interested in that please contact us and we can provide some info for you. We will have a display table at the event with several of our team members there to tell people about the work our ministry does. This is a great opportunity to inform people of the work being done by one of our many ministries here at SMBC. Thanks for your support, Jim and Gerry Harrah 458-5163

God’s Design’s—July 10th Volunteers arrived early, with tools in hand, to paint and transform the exterior of the storage/workplace building of God’s De-signs. The multicolor concrete block building is located at 455 Vaughn Walker Way, on the prop-erty of First Gethsemane Church. The interior of the building had al-ready been renovated by volunteers, many of them from SMBC. The 90-degree, muggy day began with prayer led by Pastor Greg. The men and women soon had the long-handled rollers covering the build-ing with gallons of paint. A lot of water breaks were needed in the heat and humidity. Other volun-teers worked inside mending, sew-ing, folding items, painting furni-ture, and organizing. A counter-top was also installed in the bathroom. After a short break for lunch, the large group of volunteers continued their work, along with much laugh-ter and joking. Many thanks to all the volunteers who gave of their time and talent to help this ministry which has im-pacted the lives of many people. God’s Designs was organized and incorporated in 2010, exclusively for charitable purposes, by Jim and Gerry Harrah. The ministry pro-vides donated furniture and house-hold items for complete make-over of living spaces of low-income families. Reported by
