WELLNESS TIPNicotine is a powerful drug, so quitting smoking is difficult. Here are some tips for quitting smoking:
• Quit—allowing yourself even one cigarette could sabotage your effort to quit.
• Reward yourself for not smoking—give yourself something to look forward to, but don’t give yourself the reward if you end up having a cigarette.
• Lessen your coffee intake—the effects of caffeine increase when you’re not smoking.
• Modify your routines associated with smoking, such as your morning coffee break.
• Join a support group—talking to others who are going through the same thing can help.
• Try nicotine gum or patches—these products allow you to control the amount of nicotine in your blood stream so you can slowly decrease the nicotine your body requires to feel normal.
• Don’t let your guard down—withdrawal symptoms can continue for three to four weeks.
• Avoid or severely limit your alcohol intake when quitting—if you choose to reintroduce it, be careful, as alcohol is a smoking trigger for many individuals.

offer 24/7 crisis support over the phone.

talk with Holly or Casey. You can also call 1-800-422-5338
to schedule an appointment.
DESIGNETICS’ BENEFIT
Designetics feels it’s vital to focus on the whole person,
not just an employee’s workload or job performance. These
types of events help to offer new growth opportunities, and
a chance for Designetics employees to see how health and
wellness fits into their lives.
“We need to be mindful that wellness extends beyond
physical health,” said Sydney Spraw, President. “So, we asked
a number of financial experts to present information at the
fair. After all, financial health is as important to our employees
as general health.” Mary Blake, the company’s representative
from Huntington, was on hand to discuss the various employee
insurance benefits, and a pair from the Trust Company were
available for one-on-one meetings to discuss 401(k) options.
Other featured companies included Holland Branch Library,
the YMCA, Serenity Health and Wellness Center, and The
Financial Opportunity Center, among others.
LOVE YOURSELF? IT’S EASY HERE.
As a leader in fluid application systems and solutions,
Designetics believes it’s not enough to just focus on
providing superior products in the marketplace; it cultivates
its employee base to be the best it can be.
To that end, we provide a variety of personal growth
initiatives to our employees throughout the year, in the form
of Lunch and Learns, seminars and workshops, as well as
health-based activities and educational opportunities.
For example, Designetics recently sponsored an employee
health and wellness fair, aimed at providing information on a
wide range of topics promoting ways to become happier and
healthier. Themed “Love Yourself,” the event, which was held
on February 12th at the company’s headquarters, featured
healthy foods and vendor areas, where employees could talk
to third-party representatives to gain more information.

Phishing Training Lunch and Learn: Thank you, Scott, for giving us tips on how to handle
suspicious emails! Remember to check the 7 red flags to
help you detect if an email is a threat: who is the email
from, was the email sent to a random group, hover over
hyperlinks, unusual dates and times, subject irrelevant,
mysterious attachments, or the content may be odd
and illegible. If you receive any phishing emails at work,
contact our IT department. If you are at home, block
the sender then delete the email.
Feed My Starving Children Volunteering: With the help of hundreds of volunteers 202, 392 meals
were created. With this amount of meals, FMSC is able
to provide food for 554 children for an entire year!
Thank you to the Designetics employees who helped
make this happen!
Connecting Kids to Meals Volunteering:
We packaged and counted over 30,500 units of
Styrofoam trays, sporks, and mustard packets. This
allows the delivery process to be more efficient while
providing meals to as many children as possible in our
community.

GUESS WHOSE PETPETS GAMEAnyone who has ever spent time at Designetics knows
we love our tee-shirts. In fact, some folks think we create
events just as an excuse to make specially-designed shirts
for participants. That couldn’t be further from the truth...
but, hey, why not develop a contest for employees to
design the next great Designetics tee-shirt? That’s exactly
what we did.
After all the entries were received, we deliberated.
Ruminated. And deliberated some more. Finally, we voted for
the winners of our employee tee-shirt contest: 1st place goes
to Missy and 2nd place goes to Nikki C. Missy’s design will
be used soon for tee-shirts distributed to employees, while
Nikki’s masterwork is scheduled for production at a later date.
When the contest was announced, Missy mentioned she
began brainstorming right away, looking for a design that
had meaning behind it. So, she centered her concept
around “base”—first thinking of the bases run by our
softball team and the wordplay of the base that connects

the applicators we make to dispensing equipment. She
expanded that by a play on the words “base” and “bass”—as in
bass in music. Tying the theme together was our mascots Wally
and Sally claiming they were “all about the base” and musical
notes, a boom box and a keyboard; since Missy listens to music
all day long, this was a personal touch.
Nikki C. used a variety of characters on her design, representing
different applicators to showcase that the company has
more variety. For example, she designed a football player
styled applicator, with the lines under his eyes representing
staples. Other employees helped by suggesting the types of
applicators to put onto the design. According to Nikki, the
effort was “design by the people, for the people.” She went on
to say “never stop improving” was used because Designetics
always is improving to make the best parts for our customers.
She also said the applicator characters are holding hands to
represent teamwork and completing jobs together.
Look for the tee-shirts soon!

THE UNUSUAL IS OUR USUAL
PETS GAME ANSWERS
The measure of a leader in fluid application systems is how
well it can adapt to out-of-the-ordinary requests. And for
us, the unusual is usual. That’s because, as the preeminent
provider of fluid application solutions, Designetics is often
tasked with helping manufacturers come up with new ways
to solve problems. And, along the way, we get pretty unusual
requests, which require pretty unusual solutions.
We are used to creating new products and sourcing
specific materials to accommodate a manufacturer’s fluid
flow requirements. Along the way, we’ve created a product
line that consists of thousands of options—and we are still
designing and prototyping new options weekly.
Unusual requests also come from different industries.
For example, we created a semi-automated way for the
aerospace industry to apply corrosion-inhibiting paint to
fasteners on aircraft, creating the world’s first portable
pumping system for them, as well as a line of applicators
designed specifically to the size and shape of the fasteners.
It all stems an attitude of curiosity and can-do spirit; an
attitude that looks to potential and avoids a cookie-cutter
approach to solving problems. That, in turn, makes tackling
the unusual a usual part of our business.

DID YOU KNOW?
Designetics has a nonprofit charitable foundation called Designetics Cares. We believe little things can make a big difference.
That’s a guiding principle behind our work at Designetics, and it’s a guiding principle behind Designetics Cares. That’s because
we believe little things-help when needed, outreach and concern for each other —can lead to big differences in lives, our
local community and the world at large. The foundation strives to transform the lives of Designetics employees and the next
generation in our community.
