From The Founders! When you’ve come far enough to not go back, but not far enough to reach where you’re supposed to be you start asking questions:• What am I doing here? • Did I miss God and make a mistake again? • Am I going the right way? In any case, these are very good questions unless the result of these questions are not answered and only leave doubt. Matthew 21:21 - Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have FAITH, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this moun-tain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

YESBUT TO WHAT?

We both sat. She with tears in her eyes. And me sharing the love the Christ. She was a mother of two—a woman who was torn between two lives. She had one child in jail and another one on drugs. She was taking care of the grandchild from the child on drugs. She was living with a man she wasn’t married to, but in her mind it was the most stable relationship she had. In the midst of tears and pain, God had me trying to com-pel her with His words of love. My heart was crying out for her to say yes to God and surrender to His Love.

But her response, “Not right now. I can’t.”

Mom2Mom

ave you ever been pursued by someone who wanted nothing more than to show you how much He loves you? just like this woman, you have been. You just may not know it, yet.

For her saying yes to God meant saying no to her live-in, un-married relationship—the only real, tangible relationship she felt she had left. This man was her savior. He was the one who had been with her through the disappointment, the hurt, and the defeat that she felt. “I know what going down to the altar means, and I just can’t give this relationship up,” she cried. This man was her hope. He was her peace. She couldn’t let go of him to hold on to God. I felt her pain.

Wait. Isn’t this what happened with the Samaritan woman at the well (john 4)? This woman was dying of thirst—true fulfillment, real peace and lasting security—when the Living Water came and made her an offer. What about you? Are you dying of thirst when the Living Water is avail-able to you? Your situation may or may not be as dire as the woman I sat with, but maybe your response is the same: I can’t. I’m not good enough, yet. I’ve made too many mis-takes. Once I clean up the messes I’ve made in my life, I’ll be ready to let God love me. Continue on next page......

Romans 5:6-8 states,

About My FamilyFor the quality of life that I desire my hus-

band and I have determined the best fit for

our family was for me to become a WAHM.

Quality of life for us means having the fle-

xibility to be available when our kids need

me and to be able to earn an income doing

what I love. As of this writing my daughter

is 9 and entering the tween years. I see

puberty approaching just over the horizon.

She is a sensitive artist who makes me LOL

on a daily basis. If you come to visit, you will

probably find her doing one of two things

– drawing on every piece of paper in the

house or practicing her handstands for

gymnastics. Our 7 year old son is a piano-

playing-skateboard-riding-break-dancing-

never-know-what-he’s-going-to-say-2nd-

grader. Our 20 month son has taken over

our household. This toddler stage is giving

me a run for my money. Nevertheless, he

has completed our family and as far as I’m

concerned we’re done. (No more pushing

out 8 lb babies for me!) My husband, Da-

niel, is my best friend and the love of my life.

How to SPREAD thr Love of GOD

What exactly

is the love of

God? In one

word: Jesus. Jesus was every example

of what God’s love consists of, be-

cause God is love, and Jesus is one

with Him. So how do you spread the

love of God? Simply put: Show Jesus

to everyone you meet. That leads us

to the question: How can you spread

what you don’t have? Well, you can’t.

Step one is: Know God

God reveals Himself through

His word, prayer, devoti-

on and through everything that He’s

created. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 states,

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not

envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others, it is not

self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it

keeps no record of wrongs. Love does

not delight in evil but rejoices with the

truth. It always protects, always trusts,

always hopes, always perseveres. Love

never fails …”

“More and more”, meaning

we’re not perfected and

there’s room to grow. You don’t

really know something until you’ve ac-

ted on it; which leads us

The Vision!

1John 4:8 says, “He who does

not love, has not become ac-

quainted with God (does not,

and never did know Him).” Loving

God and following His commandments

go hand in hand. Jesus said clearly in

John 14:15, “If you love me, keep my

commandments.” 2 John 1:6 states,

“And this is love: that we walk in obe-

dience to his commands. As you have

heard from the beginning, his command

is that you walk in love.” Matthew

22:37-39 states, “Jesus replied: Love

the Lord your God with all your heart

and with all your soul and with all your

mind. This is the first and greatest com-

mandment. And the second is like it:

‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”

As humans, we naturally

care for our own well-

being first. But Jesus

said you shall love your neighbor as

yourself. In doing that, we would actu-

ally give preference to others.

Let‘s read more about

Adam Ranney, a native to Phoenix, Ariz., said

his heart and his family’s heart is “not to be

super famous; that’s up to God.” He says,

“Our heart is to introduce people to the presence of God.”

Ranney, now a worship pastor for Free Chapel in Orange

County, Calif., began singing at age 16 in his local church

in Phoenix, Ariz. Three years later he felt a divine tug on his

heart to go into full-time music ministry.

That step of faith, at 19, has led him into rela-

tionships and collaborations with top Christian

musicians and artists, such as Israel Houghton

and Eddie James. Ranney recently released his debut CD

New Horizon and is currently working with his church to host

the Forward 2011 Student Conference.

Adam Ranney

I

NVi was able to catch up with Ranney in bet-

ween his schedule of songwriting, ministering,

and being a husband and father.

NVi: Do you come from a musical family?

Ranney: That’s the funny thing—no. There was

a general love for music, and my dad had

a bunch of records, but I didn’t grow up see-

ing my dad or anyone playing guitar or drums. A funny story

though: At 3 years old my parents saw that a Presbyterian

church was throwing away a piano. My dad said he would

take it, and he paid $20 for it. Read More > >

One on One With Adam Ranney

His thought was, “maybe one of

my kids will be interested in playing

the piano.” When I turned 8 years

old, I started playing that piano

by ear. How would my parents

know they were hearing from God

when I was age 3? They basically

invested into my life’s call and didn’t

even know it.

NVi: It seems you were natu-

rally gifted. What was your

music training like? Did you

take formal lessons?

Ranney: Yes. The hard thing

is I already started teaching

myself piano by ear. I took

four years of piano lessons,

but only got to level 2—I

struggled learning to read music

and chords. I can’t read music to

this day. I [did] learn the scales and

chords. But the majority of what I

know has just been self-taught or

taught to me by others. I’ve never

had a voice lesson in my entire life.

My experience came from great

singers who showed me what to

do and how to do it.

NVi: Who has influenced you?

Ranney: At [19], I was around Eddie

James. I had the privilege to meet

him and sing with him. He has a

great gift to pull stuff out of peop-

le; he sees potential where others

don’t. Israel Houghton has been a

huge influence for many years—the

way he ad libs and worships. I also

glean heavily from the PlanetSha-

kers, Hillsong and Chris Tomlin.

NVi: You were called by God at a

young age to pursue music ministry

full-time; how did you maintain your

relationship with Jesus Christ?

Ranney: I would love to say I was

on target the whole time [but] I

had a couple ups and downs.

Ultimately, humility and humbleness

is the greatest key, especially in

music when there are people

who can out do you any

day of the week and at any

given time. I think maintaining

the relationship with God is

important; you have to know

Who called you to do it. I

am nothing, because at the

end of the day I know God

equipped me for what he

called me to do, and He did and

He did it without lessons and for-

mal training. Know Who gave you

gift and don’t sell out. The moment

you start thinking you are the one

who gave yourself this gift you will

start doing it for you,

Page 53: Love of God Issue

The Interview!

and then the perspective is wrong.

I believe that begins to break

God’s heart. I believe He’s moved

when we give back to Him what

He gave to us. The world doesn’t

need any more talented people;

the world needs talented Christi-

ans to stay Christians when they

get discovered.

NVi: Your album, New Horizon, has

an uplifting and hopeful message

throughout each song. What

inspired you during the songwriting

process of this album?

Ranney: For a lot of songwri-

ters, we pull from what we

are currently going through or

things we experience in our own

personal lives. Music becomes

our outlet, and our way to tell a

story. Every one of those songs

has a story behind it. I can tell

you where I was, what I was

doing, what I was feeling and

what I saw and experienced.

With each song there are the-

mes [of] God’s love for us, how

He gave it all for us, how He

is coming back for us, and that he

has not forgotten us.

NVi: What is your most favorite

song to sing and/or perform live?

Ranney: It’s torn between two. Fun

and exciting for me is “Supernatu-

ral.” It’s a real, fun and encoura-

ging. I love the beat, the feel, and

the groove about it. The other is

“Speak Life.” Through that song I

love being able to talk about issues

and stories, and get people to think

beyond their own heartache.

NVi: Will you share more about

getting people to think beyond

their own heartache?

Ranney: There is a message of

hope in “Speak Life.” My pastor

preached a message called “Life

Speakers,” and it comes from Eze-

kiel 37—a valley of dry bones and

valleys represent low places and

God asked Ezekiel, “Can these

bones live?” And he told Ezekiel to

speak to them and prophesy. Can

life come again from low places,

from devastation? Can life come

back from out of the low places of

sex trafficking and slavery? Can

life live? Do we still believe that He

is the God of the miraculous? It will

The fact is that several people can help. They have to

get past well-intentioned and move into action.

NVi: How have you done that: moved into action?

Ranney: Every song was a crossroad moment for me as

a man, as a person, as a man in ministry. It was almost

like hands up in the air, “God what in the world are

you doing? I’m frustrated.” He was waiting for me to

take a step. The moment I began to take a step and

do some things outside of my comfort zone that’s when

he started to move. It takes that step and willingness to

follow Him. It’s amazing what can happen in a moment.

My heart is to get the word out. Every CD that is sold

a portion of proceeds go to ministries that are making

a difference. For instance, we donate money every

month to the Dream Center in Los Angeles to help

fund part of the building to get girls off the streets and

rescue them from sex trafficking.

NVi: What music projects and/or album are you wor-

king on now or will be working on in the near future?

Ranney: Our church, Free Chapel, [is] gearing up for

our next live recording, and we are going to Georgia

[for the Forward 2011 conference]. Israel Houghton will

be helping us produce a live recording. I am writing

songs for that. I don’t have my eyes set on another

personal project right now, because of the [conference].

We’ve never recorded for our youth conference; it will

be great atmosphere. And having the world’s best to

produce it—with Israel Houghton you can’t go wrong.

I’m excited to glean and learn from him..

THINGS OCCUR IN SEASON

IN SEASON, IN TIME, EVERY PURPOSE

Remember the caterpillar experiment

in grade school? I do. As a student

my class hatched caterpillars from

eggs and then watched that creepy caterpillar trans-

form into a beautiful butterfly. In a few ways, God

does the same process with us. I remember that un-

sightly looking caterpillar crawling along on the floor

and then we put him in a jar. One day he crawled to

the cap and began to weave himself into a cocoon.

Then, after a short season of time, he emerged from

that cocoon totally transformed by the metamorphosis

process. Now, he was a butterfly. All of his preparation

in that jar was important before he was released. The

same is true for believers in God. Each person’s life

has been designed in God’s own specific way. This life

design has various seasons and time tables, in which

God intends to accomplish His purpose with us. As we

grow spiritually in His life design, we move through four

scriptural stages: sanctification, transformation, chaste-

ning and rebuke, and release for purpose.

1 Sanctification: Strong’s concordance defines this

word as to make holy, purify or consecrate; (men-

tally) to venerate. In John 17:17-19, the Lord pray-

ed for his disciples as well as for us. He wants us to know

that we are sanctified through truth and the word of God

is that truth. So, there is going to be a season that we will

go through the Holy Spirit dealings in holy living, purifying

and consecrating for he is working on getting us ready for

ultimate purpose.

2 Transformation: This season deals with the rene-

wing of our minds. Romans 12:1-2, encourages

us to present our bodies as living sacrifices unto

God, which emphasizes the first season of sanctification. In

verse 2, it states, being not conformed to the world, but be

transformed by the renewing of our mind. This word trans-

formed means to transform “metamorphose” change, trans-

figure. I believe this is one of the most contested seasons

of a believer’s life by the devil. He understands this design

and knows well the power of it for the saints who endure.

The word declares that if any man be in Christ he is a new

creature (1 Cor. 5:17).

THINGS OCCUR IN SEASON

IN SEASON, IN TIME, EVERY PURPOSE Do you know it is possible to be a new crea-

ture inwardly and still think like the old man

outwardly? But if we take responsibility in this

season through meditating in the word and allowing it to

transfigure/refigure the way we think, then we began to see

the outward manifestation of this new creature we are in our

living. The advantages are life changing. Remember: God is

preparing us for purpose.

3Chastening and Rebuke: Hebrews 12:5-11 is

about the chastening and rebuke of the Lord of

which every son or daughter must receive. God

knows His design for this life we live. Chastening keeps us

in the operational perimeters of this life, which is why all His

chastening and rebuke comes by way of the word. You can’t

just live this life any old way you please, and expect God’s

best. This is why the Holy Spirit is always there admonishing,

correcting and affirming. Chastening and rebuke along with

the cultivated fruit of the Spirit brings us into the character of

God, especially His holiness.

The Word!

4Release of Purpose: Galatians 4:1-5 talks about

being under tutors and governors. A serious be-

liever—one who desires to discover his earthly

assignment in Christ—will do this. But we need to remember

there is a time for every purpose (Eccl 3:1). And you might

feel like you are ready. By this mature stage, you get to know

a few things concerning the word. But can you stand it if God

won’t allow you in arenas to share it with anyone? You have

learned how to flow in a few of the gifts of the Spirit, but can

you accept it if God will not allow you to flow before large

crowds? Remember the Lord Jesus at twelve years of age

in the temple with the priests and doctors? He didn’t stay in

the temple, but went home with his parents. It wasn’t His time

to preach. I’m just saying: the times and seasons are in your

Father’s hand. He has groomed you for His purpose. Now,

let him order the fullness of time for your release of purpose.

Do You Really Love Him

Jesus said to me, “Why do you

say you love me and hate

my body.” The words came

so unexpectedly. For several years I

had shown action and proof of my love

for God. Early in my Christian walk I

embraced the two great command-

ments: loving God and loving others

with all my heart, soul, strength and

mind (Lk 10:27). It was for these two re-

asons alone that I served. In the 1980s,

I did missionary work for five years, vi-

sited nursing homes, volunteered du-

ring services and coordinated special

holiday projects. This brought special

joy to me, because I was ministering to

Christ and others. Also, I worked in out-

reaches, prayer seminars and women

leadership meetings. I also co-hosted a

radio program with my husband. Then,

in the 1990s I co-pastored a small chur-

ch with my husband and children; we

did everything necessary to run and

operate a church successfully. I did it

all for Him. So what happened? What

changed that caused my Lord and

Savior to speak to me so unexpected-

ly? The word love is easy to say. But

when it comes to doing love, where is

our proof as the body of Christ? The

scripture states that God so loved the

world that he gave his only begotten

Son, and that whosoever believeth in

him should not perish, but have ever-

lasting life (Jn 3:16).

We see from this scripture that love

is the motivating factor that prompts

God to move, to do something. Love

is also our motivation as Christians.

Do You Really Love Him

Atime came in my life

when I did not allow

love to motivate me. I

had no more strength to serve God in

that capacity. My heart became hea-

vy and burdened with my own rejec-

tions. I began to remember all the hurt

and pain others had caused me. Of-

fense and misunderstanding from other

leaders and people from my past floo-

ded my heart. I found it very difficult

to forgive, because bitterness began to

hinder my love walk. Looking back at

my past I saw that I was bitter toward

the one I said I loved—Jesus.

After Jesus asked,

“Why do you say you

love me and hate my

body,” He showed me an image of

myself putting on makeup, combing my

hair, getting all dressed up, but one thing

was missing: my garments. Then he said,

“For you to love yourself, you must love your

whole body. For you to love Me, you must

love My whole body—the body of Christ.”

These revelations made me want to run and

hide from God Himself. And I said to myself,

“Where can I go and God‘s people not be

there?” The body of Christ is everywhere.

Jesus and the body of Christ are one, and

it is impossible to truly express love toward

Jesus and not love His people. It can seem

so easy to love God, but we must also love

our neighbor as we love ourselves. In 1

Corinthians 13, Paul writes about love and

its characteristics: Love is not demanding,

destructive, hateful, hurtful, unforgiving, sel-

fish and rude, but love is gentle and kind.

Love’s Commandments

From reading the teachings of Jesus Christ

and the teachings of His apostles, we can

see that love is the most important thing

Page 67: Love of God Issue

We know we Love the children

of God

Do You Really Love Him...

that we as believers are com-

manded to do—it is also the most

challenging thing as well. If it was

so easy to do, we would not have

any problems doing it. That is why

we have been told that if we do

not walk in love, we will not be

overcomers. The scripture states in

1 John 5:2, 4, “We know we love

the children of God, when we love

God and keep his commandments.

For whatsoever is born of God

overcometh the world: and this is

the victory that overcometh the

world, even our faith.”

As the Son of God, Jesus is the

pattern for all Christians that belie-

ve in him today. Love in its simplest

form always demands action. Jesus

is the word of God (Jn 1:1, 14).

Jesus is love in action. He came

from Heaven to Earth through 42

generations born of a virgin (Is

7:14). He came, suffered and died

on the cross that we might live, that

we might have an abundant life

of love, joy, peace and happiness

here on the Earth, and also eternal

life in time to come.

One of the most powerful things

about love is that it will never fail

you. Beloved, love will never fail

you. So, don’t give up on love.

The Holy Spirit taught me many

things and helped me on my Jesus

journey. Successful Christian living

has been a day-by-day journey. I

would like for everyone who says

they love God and who call on the

name of Jesus to forgive everyone

that has offended you. Then, you

can be free to walk in love and

truly fulfill the great commandments.
