HELLO and welcome to Love Music Magazine’s twelfth online edition.

The Love Music Awards are taking your votes now! We have had so

many nominations for this first year. Its really great to see so much

support for all genres of music. www.lovemusicawards.com/vote

So one year ago I was scared to release the first issue and now, it’s so

easy. It’s like baring your soul for the first time when you release your

creative work. I am so privileged to have met and interviewed so many

musicians from all over the world thanks to this idea that I had, sat at

home, last year. In a way you have mostly had this same feeling,

releasing your work either just before or just after being in this

magazine. I thank you all so much for being part of this and hope you

are all very successful in your careers.

So, for those of you that missed the recent blog post, I have put a

“donation” button on the website. This is as an alternative to charging

for the magazine. I think it is good to keep it free and accessible for

everyone, As the old phrase goes “every little helps!”

Thank you, as always, for making my first year amazing and here’s to

many more.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? Adina Feldman A singer/songwriter with a three-and-a-half octave vocal range, Adina has performed everywhere from New York’s Town Hall to the Israel Festival in Jerusalem and has created three highly successful one-woman shows. In March 2013, Adina was given the honour to sing the USA National Anthem before President Barak Obama’s historic speech at the Jerusalem Convention Center. Professional training in singing, dance and acting give this native New Yorker’s performances the polish and punch that have won her exposure on American and Israeli television, radio and movies as well as leading roles in dozens of musicals. Adina is a choreographer and vocal coach who has served as a faculty member at the Hebrew University and the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Music and Dance. Currently she teaches Song Presentation at the music school at the Kiryat Ono Academic College where she is also the artistic director of their performing ensemble. Adding songwriting to her list of accomplishments, in 2006, Adina released a disc of original songs entitled “Here You Are.” Currently, Adina is in the final stages of her next disc as she continues to perform both in Israel and abroad. Her song. “Just A Girl” reached #14 on FMQB charts in the AC category: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHhUCjMi_1M Here is another one of her songs from her new disc, “Pray For You”, which was inspired by her son serving in the military. Click here to see Adina’s music clip “Pray For You”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXL8xXQRxb8 Can you tell us a bit more about your musical inspirations? I think my greatest inspiration growing up was Carole King- I loved playing and singing her music. She inspired me to write. My Mom was a concert pianist and I learned to love the piano from her. I also loved Carly Simon(loved her lyrics), thought Billy Joel was brilliant and learned to sing by listening to Barbra Streisand. What has been the highlight of your career so far? Singing for President Obama on his historic visit to Israel. I was chosen by the American Consulate to sing the American National Anthem before President Obama’s speech at the Jerusalem Convention Center in March 2013. Getting to meet him and speak to him afterwards was amazing. I got to take a few pictures with him as well. That was definitely a highlight and such an unbelievable honour. If you had one piece of advice that you could share with anyone looking to start a musical career, what would it be? Follow your heart if this is really what you want and remember to stay “true” to yourself. Don’t try to be something or somebody who you are not!!! And finally, in order to make this work you need to find the balance in your life. What is coming up for you this year? First of all I am going to be finishing my second disc in the next couple of months. I will be doing another 2 video clips and I am planning to “go on the road” with my new album which will be called ”Just A Girl”. If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why? To fly!! So I can fly all over the world, back and forth to America and Israel to spend time with my family and perform all over the world- to actually be in 2-3 countries in one day! Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

We're Crash Island, dark tropical indie rock, from London

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight is happening now, we released a new single, and a lot of people are liking it and

sharing it. It's amazing, we're getting radio plays literally everywhere: Radio France added the

song to their playlist. And now the song is played on a BBC introducing show for the first time.

Can you tell us what is coming up for you?

A new Ep is coming up. Howl (Come On!) will be on it. It will be released in October.

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in

their career?

We're in an independent band, so all we do is trusting ourselves about the music, and working

very hard on the music and every other aspect around the music.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

Elvis Presley? he could teach us some moves.

If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

We make music, so we have this superpower everyday. We don't need any other.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? I'm a red-headed, four-eyed Belgian pop artist that feels most at easy behind a piano, synth - or any keyboard for that matter.

I do (co)write, play and sing my own songs, but I don't think I'd fit your typical 'singer-songwriter' image;

I don't carry a guitar everywhere I go, didn't have a messed up childhood, don't take myself too seriously, I don't beat or cheat on my

wife, I don't have a drug habit. And I don't wear a feathered hat.

I am however very passionate about what I do and have lots of fun in writing, recording and performing my music, and like to think that

shines through in the feel-good pop tunes I make.

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career? For starters: I'm still taking baby steps in the music industry. I have had my share of success and realise I've been lucky to make a

living out of what I love. But I still can't believe it when I hear my tunes on the radio or when I'm looking at crowd of people who paid

good money to see me perform or sing along to a song I've written.

What I think I've learned so far would be this:

Try to surround yourself with people you trust and are better than you and/or bring out the best in you and take things to another level.

There will be ups and downs, you will make the wrong decisions and things won't always go as planned or hoped. You'll run into a

wall - possibly by your own doing, or by someone else making a mistake. Blaming someone else doesn't help. Work hard, take your

job seriously, don't take yourself too seriously and don't be afraid to take a leap of faith and try to invest - wisely - in the future every

now and then. Be patient. And be grateful for what you have and never forget about the people who've helped you along the way.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be any why?

The best moment in collaborations is when you realise there's a spark and you're actually making each other perform better. The 1 + 1

= 3 kind of thing.

It's always great to work with talented people, and it becomes even more interesting if they come from an entirely different culture or

musical background.

To be honest, I'm kind of hesitant if I would really want to work with my true idols, as there is always a chance they might let me down.

I'd rather leave the mystery and magic instead of having the tiny risk of being disappointed.

But obviously I'd love to work with quite a few people: Nik Kershaw, for writing some of the best songs of the eighties. Thomas

Bangalter, because all projects he's involved in are absolutely brilliant. Gregg Wells, for his catchy songwriting and production skills.

And Rihanna, for personal reasons ;-) What has been the highlight of your career so far? Oh there've been quite a few;

Obviously the first time I heard 500 Japanese fans sing my song.

Hearing my music on the radio still gives me the chills - or one of my songs being used in a film or series can make it sound so

different and powerful!

Singing "If I Can't Have You" in duet with Kim Wilde for 15.000 people.

I felt very honoured to receive the European Border Breakers Award.

Ooh, and I sang the world smash hit 'Born To Be Alive' together with Patrick Hernandez on stage. It was the hit song on my parents

wedding, and that's when they decided to call me Born!

But basically - and I realise this sounds cheesy - I feel blessed every time we get into the studio or go on stage anywhere in the world.

Seriously! What is coming up for you?

I love the creative process, I'm passionate about the recording and production phase, but the most fun part of every new album

definitely is going out there and play it live!

So in the next few months, I'm hoping to get on stage with my awesome band as much as possible. However, I do feel that come

Autumn 2014, it will start itching again to record new material and lay the groundwork for a new album.

And I’m very excited to be playing in London for the first time on Wednesday July 2nd with promoters Death2Disco at The Macbeth in

Hoxton!! If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

It might not be super original, but I'd be able to fly. I'm a huge comic fan and ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be Spiderman. But

now I'm older, I've come to realise that web slinging is a tough job. Flying - in a Superman kind of way, not flapping my arms like a bird

- should be way easier. It still seems like the ultimate form of freedom, and it saves me the hassle of checking in and putting my liquids in plastic retainers.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you and your career so far?

I began singing at the age of 6 when my country singing Grandma, Naina, bought me a

karaoke machine. I loved singing and performing from that moment on. Little did I know

that 10 years later I too would discover a country flavour in my voice. At the age of 16 I

began gigging covering the hits of many artists. After a chance meeting with

songwriter/producer Mike Croft last year, I started to work on original material which helped

me to discover and develop my own vocal identity. At this point I decided to adopt the new

stage name of ‘Kendall’, based on the beautiful Cumbrian town where I was born. These

days I don’t think of myself as a country singer, more like a pop singer with a ‘quirky flick’ in

my voice.

Your track 'Tell me it's Over' is a beautiful track.

What inspired it and what else inspires your music generally?

Mike Croft wrote ‘Tell Me It’s Over’ having worked with me over a few months in the studio.

The song not only allowed me to use the full range of my voice and my ‘quirky flick’ but tells

an emotional story that’s true for me and, we believe, for many others. We went on to work

with award winning producer James McMillan on the track. The fantastic version of 'Tell

Me It's Over' was then created!

Where can we see you perform?

I will be performing at The Study Rooms in Lancaster on Friday 11th July and at Ribby Hall,

Preston on Saturday 26th July. During this time you will be able to catch the song on BBC

Radio 2 and other local radio stations.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Early highlights were performing before thousands of people at Bolton and Preston's

Football grounds. Recently the best buzz has been working in the studio with fantastic

producers and musicians. I now feel very fortunate to count producers James McMillan

and Kevin Malpass as good friends who have already helped me tremendously and are

willing to work with me in the future.

What advice would you offer to new musicians looking to get

where you are in their career?

There's a saying which has proved to be true for me...."it's more about perspiration than

inspiration". Work hard, never give up and look for your own musical identity.

What do you have planned for this year?

My new single 'Tell Me It's Over' is due to be released on 7th July on Steep Smithy Music so

I'm presently preparing for that. This involves media work, photo shoots and shooting a

music video. I am also busy in the studio preparing new material for my forthcoming EP.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

Joe has the spent the last few years studying at the prestigious Leeds College of music,

performing in bands and session work, and developing his own sound as a solo artist.

Joe Taylor's EP draws on his influences of soul, blues and pop. Hailing from Yorkshire,

Joe grew up listening to artists such as Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations and Ray

Charles.

Heavily involved with all areas of the production on this EP, he has crafted a distinctive

and personal sound, launching him as a credible and contemporary soul artist.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Playing my debut gig at the Finsbury pub, London, great vibe with great musicians and

audience

Can you tell us what is coming up for you?

I have some exiting video material coming, and some great acoustic versions of Blossom

Avenue

I have shows this Friday at the Dublin Castle, Camden and The Stag's Head, Hoxton.

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are

in their career?

Make music that's true to you, no matter the genre. Always work to the best of your ability.

Practice your instrument. Most importantly make those connections, meet people, get

them to like you and what you do.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

Ray Charles. he makes me feel alive, those key parts are to die for and that voice.

If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

Would have to be time travel, to go to a Bob Marley concert.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? JP: Absolutely. I’m originally from New York and now I reside in Los Angeles. I moved to LA about 6 years ago to really delve into music and take my career more seriously. I had the opportunity to work with some really great people out here so I picked up and did it. Best decision of my life. Since then I have been honing my sound, my production and writing skills and getting a lot of music out for the world to hear. I create electronic, instrumental music that runs the gamut from chillout and downtempo to climactic, emotional cinematic rock. I love what I do and I love sharing it with people. What has been the highlight of your career so far? JP: I have to say that hearing music that I’ve composed and performed being a part of popular TV shows on major networks. I’ve always been of fan of the marriage of film and good music so to be a legitimate part of that whole process will never cease to excite me. leaving richmond is a purely instrumental project so the pairing of our music with visual imagery is really organic. It’s something I work very hard to make happen. Can you tell us what is coming up for you? JP: We’re set to release our 4th EP this year. An Elusive Glow will feature 6 new songs that I really cannot wait to share with our fans. The artwork is in production at the moment and the final touches are being put on the mixes. We’re also gearing up for live shows, which I’m very excited about. There’s every indication that our songs are in a great position for more licensing opportunities which, as I mentioned before, is always thrilling. What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career? JP: I hate to sound cliché, but follow your heart. If you have a sound that you want to create, stop at nothing to create it. While it’s never a bad idea to seek advice, keep in mind that you can’t please everyone and constantly rearranging your sound to try and do so won’t help you in the end. Be prepared to work very hard and try to make some sort of forward movement everyday, no matter how seemingly small. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? JP: There’s an electronic artist by the name of Bonobo who I really enjoy and admire. To collaborate with him in some way, be it a remix or what have you would be incredible. His understanding of instrumental music, songwriting, grooves and the chillout and electronic genres in general are just amazing. Live, his set is something to behold. If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and why? JP: The ability to rapidly absorb and retain information. That way I could spend the 24 hours learning everything and then finally get some of that sweet, sweet Jeopardy! money. www.leavingrichmond.com www.soundcloud.com/leavingrichmond www.facebook.com/leavingrichmond www.twitter.com/leavingrichmond (@leavingrichmond)

I’m Fabz, I write lyrics about my life and put them to music. Sorta like a Salfordian version of

Will Smith but with more swearing

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Once I spat at warehouse party with 4,000 people in. It was a daylight robbery rave round the

corner from my school I was stood with my best mate looking out of a sea of people and I had

some bunny ears on was sick.

Can you tell us what is coming up for you?

Got a couple of video’s dropping soon from the E.P Lost which I just put out on Room2

Records. Hopefully dropping a mixtape by the end of the year.

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their

career?

Think about the artist you are and stay true to it. Don’t let people’s compliments get to your

head and don’t trust promoters.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? Recon me , Nas and Dam

funk should make album. Either them or The guy from Lighthouse family. The contrast would

be sick.

If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

Sure. Species human, variety male. DIY artist from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Perhaps best described as a

singer-songwriter if that wouldn’t bring up an image that isn’t quite compatible with the music of Stage Republic.

Child of the 80s. Had a room full of Duran Duran posters and played everything from Adam and the Ants to ZZ Top.

Sharp dressed Prince Charming. Loved the pirate outfit but my mum wouldn’t let me have an earring. Started to

make noise very young and music more recently. Apparently the first artist in the world to release a single on a USB

stick. Grew a sizeable social media following by writing songs about bestselling books I liked and promoting the

songs together with the authors. Kathleen McGowan launched me with Book of Love, Patrice Chaplin got me a video

clip with Ellen Barkin in it and Philip Gardiner asked me to write a song for his first feature film in which I also made

my acting debut. The movie won a Best Foreign Film Award in the States later the same year. The story of my life is

woven together from someone’s introducing me to someone elses and me making a run for it. I used to work under

my own name ‘Corjan’ but in America they thought that was the name of a detergent or a disease. So now there’s

Stage Republic. I wanted to create something with a big fat live guitar-oriented ‘produced’ pop sound. Max Martin

meets Kings of Leon kind-a-thing. Found a great upcoming Dutch producer and spent a year getting it absolutely

right. So now here’s the Stage Republic debut album ‘Firstage’.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Last week, when my single ‘All Out’ became IndieDisc on Dutch national indie station IndieXL and put it in heavy

rotation. First time ever I get so much recognition for a song from a real radio station with airplay that is taken into

account for a national chart position. Always though I wouldn’t and couldn’t care less but here you go, I love it to bits.

Getting a call to provide a quote for the cover of a John Lennon biography that was presented to Yoko Ono in

Madison Square Gardens at the 30th memorial day of his death was quite an experience too. I have been blessed I

guess. Times are very tough for many musicians.

I'm loving the album on Soundcloud. Can you tell me the inspiration behind it?

There’s so many things that inspire me. I like to dream but also to be aware of the darker sides of things. I love the

plastic fake glitter of Hollywood but I know what sort of life-prices are paid by people to make it there. Everybody has

secrets. That fascinates me endlessly. One song is about the fashion industry and girls eating cotton to stay thin.

The album is very upbeat and energetic. My motto is ‘Refuse to think it’s hard’ but at the same time I also want to

depict how stuff doesn’t all happen by itself. Every song is a story. Like a little book with a head and a tail

somewhere.

Can you tell us what is coming up for you?

Loads of good things I hope. The album will be promoted in the US from the beginning of July. I will also release in

one of the closed but very interesting markets in Asia. Dutch musicians tend to do quite well there. I have honestly

no clue what will come from that. Try to go where the river leads me. Personally I will definitely spend a lot of time

engaging with the followers and listeners on the social media wherever they are. I will try to build something solid

based on this album. Strong relations. Trying to bond and to learn from what the fans are saying. And then start

recording the Second Stage after the summer.

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career?

Make sure your image in reality and online looks exactly like you sound. Your image is the most important part of

your marketing I believe. Mine had become a mess over the years. Bard, soft-voiced troubadour, horror-actor dying

all the time, Dutch crooner. With Stage Republic I have set-up everything new from scratch. From the colours to the

samples we use. If you see and hear Stage Republic I think you will know what it’s about.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

Rick Rubin. The guy is a musical force on the Richter scale. Would love to be produced by a legend of his size. For

all the obvious reasons bur primarily because I think he manages to bring out the rawest best in people. He makes

stuff you feel you can believe in. What he does with artists makes so much sense it hurts. He will find the essence of

an artist. Every time all the time. I could get really carried away here.

If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

I would love to be my son or daughter for a day. To see the world through their eyes. To feel what they feel. To look

at the world through the eyes of a child.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? I am a singer/songwriter from Sweden who just released my first debut EP arranged and produced by Piers Faccini-- an artist I've admired since many years back. I enjoy solitary travelling, sailing in the Swedish archipelago, learning about old Asian thinking and practices and trying to live a fairly "ecological life" What has been the highlight of your career so far? I don't know if it's the vinyl we released for this year's Record Store Day or if it's the process of making this beautifully put together EP that's just been released. I guess it could be summed up to: working with Piers Faccini and Beating Drum. Can you tell us what is coming up for you? This summer I will go to the Cevennes in south of France where I recorded the EP again. The idea this time is to record a full length album to be released later this year that Piers will produce and arrange. What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career? Feed your passion with whatever it needs to grow. Otherwise there are so much advice out there already. I think at the start of an artistic career-- which is the point I am still at or perhaps just passed-- it's good to put some of those aside and follow your own advice. It's good to be naive, to be stubborn and to be honest with yourself and what you think music is all about and be persistent in maintaining it. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? Right now I am very happy with the collaboration I am already in with Piers Faccini and his label Beating Drum. He has visions with his work that I really sympathise with. His book Songs I Love, the DVD A New Morning, his paintings and photography, his comic book reflections and aphorisms of the day-- the way he "works on a whim" and combines different art forms creates a real depth in his artistry that makes him seem very accessible and recognisable. I am really lucky to have been given the chance to work with Piers. Whatever I decide to do later with music, writing and art in general, my visions of what can be done and how things can be done have really broadened with this collaboration. If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and why? I think since I'm into philosophy and especially the romantics and ancient Chinese thinkers, I will have to say my super power would be being able to experience what it's like to be a thing in itself. Or it would be the ability to dive into the deepest ocean to see what mysteries there are yet to reveal.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

Well I'm a 22 year old independent artist from Atlanta, Georgia. I've been

wanting to pursue my music dream since I was 7 years old and now after a lot

of hard work, patience and lots of faith things are finally starting to pay off! My

goal is to have my music and positive message be heard all over the world one

day and hopefully be a cause of inspiration and aspiration for my peers and the

youth.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight would definitely have to be from this year being able to get my

single 'Indigo green' on ITunes and going threw the whole process of getting the

song ready for release as well as working with my team and label on getting the

song as much exposure as possible. Being able to get threw that whole process

successfully makes me feel pretty accomplished...but its just the first step!

Can you tell us what is coming up for you?

Well what's next for me is WORK WORK WORK and more work! I think that

right now we've had a great start with the release of my single and now its time

to keep getting the word out there and start doing more shows. After we reach

our goal for 'Indigo Green' then me and the team are going to start talks of when

to release my next single, but the primary focus right now is getting 'Indigo

Green' in front of as many people as possible.

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where

you are in their career?

Practice your craft, study the greats, be patient , have faith, learn as much about

the music industry as humanly possible, strive to understand the music

business, learn the difference and value between FREE and QUALITY, quality

over quantity, NETWORK, support other artists and people in general (

especially those that show you love ), build a team of self driven and focused

individuals, FOCUS, write down your goals and vision for your career, think

about who you are as an artist and what you want to say to the world then build

a brand that can translate that visually to the people, NEVER give up...and last

always believe in yourself no matter what and remember that the path to

success is never a straight line, just because you have to take a detour doesn't

mean you wont reach your destination. Just remember your vision.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

Hmmm if I had to pick one.... I'd have to say Florence and the machine.. just

because her sound and vision is so epic. I mean Id love to able to work with and

write for a lot of different artists especially upcoming independent artists, but I

think if I was able to make a record with Florence and the machine it would be

pretty big. One day for sure...anything is possible.

If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

Why only one!?! .... Man if I could have a superpower it would have to be either

being able to fly or have telekinesis like Jean Grey...I'd prefer both though.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

My name is Sidibe. I am a singer/songwriter living in LA. I just released my first EP Metaphysical

with my longtime collaborator Nico Stadi.

What advice would you offer to musicians aspiring to be where you are in their career?

You have to be the one with the vision. Assume control for identifying and refining your creative

voice. Be honest with what's going on in your heart and honest with the audience. Once you do that,

beautiful things will happen.

Every time I listen to your music, I feel I am listening to Janet Jackson, you are incredibly

talented. Do you often get similar comparisons and what has been the best one you have been told

so far?

Wow. Thank you! Both Janet and Michael are definitely huge influences on me. I have gotten some

Janet comparisons. I most often get Janet, Sade and Aaliyah. I love all of them and would be

honored to have a career half as great as theirs.

You really work on your whole music, the thought process that goes behind it, the end product, even

spiritually going back to your family roots. What inspires this and do you think this is crucial to

creating such a musical masterpiece?

Well, I feel I have yet to make a musical masterpiece, but I am proud of the music I have created so

far. I enjoy everything about the creative process and love the control I have as an independent

artist. Making the journey to Senegal to connect with my family roots was an essential part of my

growth both as a person and an artist and the beginning of a spiritual awakening. I want my music to

reflect the beauty and magic of this experience. With Nico as a collaborator, it is easy to stay

inspired. We have so much fun together and we both have high standards.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

Well, there's so many! My dream list would certainly include Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and

Maxwell. Their natural talent and intuition is evident in every aspect of their music. I would also love

to work with Disclosure. I can't listen to their music without dancing.

What is coming up for you?

I am currently finishing up my second EP. It will be ready just in time for summer and I'm really

excited about sharing it.

If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

If I had one superpower, it would be the ability to time travel. Then I could go back and eliminate a

few villains before stopping in Studio 54 to party.

Thanks so much for being in Love Music Magazine. You've done some amazing things in your career, been to some wonderful places and met and worked with some great people. Could you possibly give a couple of favorite moments? I’ve met tons of great musicians and I’ve played lots of great shows but I love being in the moment & there is nothing more exciting for me than going on stage and playing no matter where we are. I am just grateful that after 25 years of making music that I’m still able to do it. My favorite experiences are meeting people that don’t have anything to do with music. For example, right now I’m making a film called “11:59” about three people who have made an impact in my life - 1. A midwife in the Phillipines 2. A man dying of ALS 3. A surfer/environmentalist who is reforesting clearcut areas with bamboo & creating jobs for local people. This magazine is primarily for new musicians. Do you have any words of advice, from your experience, that might help other musicians? 1.Play music from your heart. If you write songs about things that are important to you & things that you believe in, it will touch people in that same way. You might become the next superstar or you might just make a few demos for your friends. Either way, you want to look back on your music career and say, “I did what I believe in” – not “I made a bunch of crap music to make money.” 2. Treat everyone that you come across with kindness. If you do that, people will always be happy to see you come back. That goes for people that work at the bar you are playing in or the people in the studio you record at, the person who opens the door for you at a hotel and every fan. Treat them all with kindness. What would you say has been your biggest musical inspiration? Life – Every day things happen to me that affect what’s taking place in my heart. For example, my son, Ade, who is 15 was just diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder & he will probably need a transplant in the next few years so I wrote him a song . I also get inspired by other people & music I hear around the world – different cultures, languages, sounds, rhythms. That’s one of the things my son & I share – Our insatiable quest for new music. What is coming up for you in the near future? Besides the “11:59” documentary I am working on, we are beginning a yoga music tour in North America called the Soulshine Tour in June. Each show begins with a mass yoga class taught by world renowned yoga instructors. Afterwards, the event transitions into a full fledged concert with Michael Franti & Spearhead ending the night. I am always working on new music. If you do everything in your music career again, what would be the one thing that you do differently? I would learn to play guitar much earlier in my life. I did’nt start playing an instrument other than a drum machine & sampler until I was already 15 years into making records. There’s something really magical about being able to pick up your guitar wherever you are and write a song and perform it with people – whether it’s on a stage , a street corner, or at home with someone you care about. I even play the guitar when I’m alone just to listen to it – because I like the sound of a guitar. Aside from music, you are a very socially and environmentally aware person. What is the main thing that you do to keep your carbon footprint down? When touring we require that all the venues have recycling. Also, we don’t use plastic bottles & we work with tourbus companies that use biodiesel. If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why? In my opinion, flying, x-ray vision , & invisibility are all over-rated. Kicking all my friend’s asses in Words With Friends for at least ONE DAY in my life– that’s the power I would want.

EMMA

ONE YEAR ON….

We take a look back at the first year of Love

one of the best years of my life. I also asked a

few features for an update. Join me to take a

All the way back in issue one, my first international interview was with Chris Chandler. He took the time out to write me this lovely email and to let us know how his career is going: “It's really good to hear from you. Hope all is well! First off, it was an honour to be one of the first artist to be covered by your magazine. Secondly, everything is going really well. I've been traveling doing live shows focusing on the promotion of "A Different Look“ Being an Independent Artist, we are blessed with the opportunity to take as much time as we need to get the music out there. With a major, they put out a single and if it doesn't hit with the first push the artist is forgotten about. So, I'm still at it working hard! Putting on the best live performances I can is what drives me as an artist. I love the process! When the music is right!”

So much happened after the first issue. To be quite honest, my inbox went crazy and it has been ever since. The one thing I love about issue 2 was it’s cover. Gabby Young is so photogenic and it made her images a pleasure to work with. Sparda MC also featured in this issue. I have to say he is one of the most innovative musicians we have featured in this whole year. He is the master of the pop-up performance and regularly performs in shopping centres, restaurants, on the train and in fact, pretty much wherever there is a crowd of people. Mark Wincott and I also met Patch & the Giant and had a really good conversation about their music and the music industry in general. We also featured Seven Impale, Miami House Party, Syrene, Karim Kamar, and Little Collin.

Well, well. Issue 3, now this was a good one. Another couple of mentions for this one. LJ Ayrten is such a talented lady and she always promotes and offers a good ear on publishing matters, so thank you for that. Rupert, on the cover is going from strength to strength. Carvalho is just brilliant and his album is great. Me & Deboe really impressed me with their music. The first time I heard it, it sent shivers down my spine. Star Anna was interviewed by Mark. Mr Cas #DaHost was another great interview. Analogue Wave featured with us and sent us one of our first physical albums. Love you guys. The wonderful piano talents of George Mandizha were brought to my attention. Stellify, Voxe, Dixie, Simonne and the Dark Stars and the Leeds West Indian Carnival, all featured also. Finally, Critical Lenz was interviewed by DJ Sincere of Drtybsmt Multimedia. This was one of his first interviews for the magazine. DJ Sincere has regularly contributed to Love Music Magazine and he has reviewed and interviewed #notjusthiphop artists but many genres. DJ Sincere left me this Facebook message: ‘Happy 1st anniversary to Love Music Magazine! One of the best looking and well written magazines around and who welcomed in this Yankee bloke and treated him like family’

From the cover of Issue 4 in October 2013, Nina Baker featured in one of my most content filled issues. It was also the first time I got to meet one of my cover features in person and we had a good old chit chat, over a cuppa, in Canary Wharf, last September. Nina keeps going from strength to strength. Having already released two singles from her forthcoming album , Quite Frankly, she can add a string of festival appearances together with performances with Ella Eyre , Henrik Freischlader & Mick Flannery on their UK & European Tours to her repertoire . Nina has more festival dates coming up (at the bottom of this article) and I thoroughly recommend you go and see her perform live. Her current single ‘Bruising’ is out now and the video can be watched from here: www.youtube.com/ninabakermusic it’s a really clever concept and very entertaining from start to finish. ‘Single Bed’ is also a really great track and the video is, in equal measure, a delight to watch. Some more information on the forthcoming single from Nina: 'Bruising' is the second single release by Nina Baker from her self-produced debut album 'Quite Frankly'. The young classically trained pianist-singer-songwriter has had a great start to 2014. Her debut track 'Single Bed' was released and she has supported Ella Eyre, Henrik Freischlader & Mick Flannery on their UK & European Tours. But whereas her debut was a tongue-in-cheek retort to past relationships, 'Bruising' opens up another avenue into the persona of Nina Baker. A darker, more vulnerable and far more hurting side than her calm & elegant exterior would ever imply. The foundation of 'Bruising' is the tale of a long term relationship breaking up, well before the end. Lines such as "One more chance you keep saying, one more chance as if I can take it" & "Your lies bruising me" describe the anguish of an innocent party in a deceitful & failing partnership. From the military, machine-gun like drums, you are thrown into a war zone from the outset. There are tender moments, but these are soon ended with sudden stops, screaming frustration & a need of salvation - All of which build to a mighty crescendo. This is a more powerful & edgier Nina Baker, synonymous with her live show. Her piano riffs hammer hard like tubular bells of confusion, the bass-lines pound like a heart-beat full of adrenaline and her anguish-soaked vocals whisper & shout in torment. ‘Bruising' is due on June 2nd and the album ‘Quite Frankly’ hits the shelves later this year. This issue represents two people who have been quite special to this magazine over the last year. One of my favourite ‘Love-In’s’ produced by Mark Wincott was this tattoo one. I think it was because it was the most engaging of all the ones he produced. The second special group of people are Manilla PR, especially Tony. This cover, featuring Common Tongues, was the first time one of Manilla’s act’s had been on the cover. Manilla PR have also sent me some fantastic albums over the past year and we have reviewed and featured many of these. This agency is a fantastic place to be for new indie artists and their dedication and determination, to new music, shines through. I think this is why we get on so well. This is a message from Common Tongues; ‘Happy Birthday Love Music Magazine. How you've grown in just one year! It was a privilege to be on the cover of your magazine way back in issue 5. The magazines dedication to new, original music regardless of trends and genre is truly refreshing and we should all raise a glass to many more years of Love Music Magazine. You've continued to support us throughout the year through our interaction on twitter and the like and we can't thank you enough. It's been a busy year for Common Tongues as well, playing on Dermot O'Leary's Radio 2 show live from the Cambridge Folk Festival, opening the Main Stage at Secret Garden Party, supporting The Villagers as part of Sligo Live, two successful tours of Germany and two sold out showcases that we ran to exhibit the best new music in Brighton as part of the Alternative Escape in Brighton. We've also released a new single 'Beasts', produced by Gavin Monaghan (The Editors, Scott Matthews) and rereleased our EP 'Tether & Twine' on limited run orange 12' vinyl as part of Record Store Day 2014. It's been a great year and this year will herald a lot more new music and great shows for Love Music Magazine to write about and for the Common Tongues to play.’

So it was the night before December and Emma was busy putting together this festive masterpiece. There was so much talent in this issue. We had Maquilador, Zara Kershaw and Boy Meets World on the cover (they took these pictures in October, especially for this feature!). J Bravo, one of my school friends and a very talented artist featured in this issue along with Barricades Rise , Dani Wilde, Hana Piranah, Lovelife, Xsara, Matt Woosey, The Sugar Sisters, As The City Rumbles Underneath, Seb Stone, Ling Chao Rong, The Natural Curriculum, Charlie Savigar, The Tempertons, Tania Vinokur, Haarts and Pagan Gang.

Issue 7 or the ‘Happy New Year’ issue was the turn of Star & Dagger to be on the cover. This rockin’ threesome are music legends and I was so pleased to have them feature and be on the cover. We also featured, Hull’s finest, Chiedu Oraka, Amy Thompson and Bos Bully, among others. This was the start of 2014 and it was a pinnacle issue of what was to come in 2014. This message came from Sean Yseult (left on the cover) from Star & Dagger; ‘Since Star & Dagger's cover appearance, we've been busy rocking, writing new songs and drinking Blantons along with general merry-making and travels. We've performed recently with new drummer John Gray and will be performing this week with new guitarist Johnny Brashear as well as Dave Catching! We plan to be doing a number of shows with Peter Murphy this summer so keep your eyes on staranddagger.com for dates!’

Jelisa Shanel was on the cover of the February 2014 issue. I was really taken by her vocal performances on Soundcloud , to approach her. I first heard about Jelisa through Chris Moses and from attending his launch of Cave Entertainment. Jelisa, unfortunately, wasn’t able to perform that evening but she was one of the artist's that I had listened to before the show so knew that I wanted to feature her in Love Music Magazine. Jelisa has let us know what is coming up for her: “I will be doing shows across the country, starting with a few dates in London, in July. Taking a short break was hard for me, but it allowed me to step back, take a look at what I've done so far, what worked, what didn't and how I could expand as an artist and individual. Seeing from that perspective allowed me to refocus and plan what I really wanted to do, how I really wanted my music to sound, how I wanted people to experience it and how I could adapt my live set to convincingly demonstrate my growth and new experiences. It’s early days but it’s begun again, and with what we have coming from the studio with Dot Inc and Bry:Pola (collaborative project) 2014 is looking exciting!”

Issue 10, featuring Iveza and Elements was the last issue featuring the Love-In. I managed to speak to a few soap stars on twitter and get their replies. We had Rufus in this issue. I had already heard of them from Soundcloud ages ago so was quite happy to get this interview. Also Portia Ferrari was in this issue. Model, singer and all round stunner, she graced our pages after being a model for Versus for Versace and working with Larry Tee of Super Electric Party Machine. Corey Fox –Fardell who I have wanted to feature since issue 2, finally did an interview for me and Kemi Aneke, who has the voice of an angel, also featured.

Vanessa Maria, what can I say? I found this talented young lady, purely by tweets. Vanessa regularly plays music on the streets of Leeds and she has a growing following already. We also featured White Miles in this issue and whilst watching an episode of Chatty Man (UK Channel 4), saw their name flash upon a poster during an interview with Courtney Love. That was pretty cool and I was so glad to be getting this kind of coverage for all the other features in this magazine. Scary Cherry and the Bang Bangs, Jules Rendall, Mangoseed, along with twenty five other musicians, all featured in this issue.

Mark Stone & The Dirty Country Band

I must admit I don't know very much about Country or even of the many sub-genres of Country that there are to offer like Bluegrass and

Hot Country however I do appreciate good music of any genre when I hear it; and this is no exception. Even if I don't know why the

Dirty Country Band is Dirty. However on the contrary the music is quite clear, crisp and smooth. On first impressions I also noted a

hit of rock in the background as well.

The thing to note about this particular artist is the very harmonious backing vocal of some tracks that gives extra depth to the

records in question but also the vocals of Mark Stone himself which really are the driving force of the records in question. The vocals

in themselves really are perfect homely and inviting to the listener with a hint of emotion and personal experiences in the mix.

Although there is very traditional base to the records in regards to genre however there is a very contemporary outer shell of these

records. In fact there is some genres mixed in as there is rock and the tiniest pinch of metal. The track to note out of these is

“mudder trucker” which is a heavier submission compared to the rest of the records but it really is a fantastic track with some

fantastic riffs into the mix as well. It also shows the diversity of the artist as well going from smooth romantic country love song

one minute to some of the best rock the next.

The reason why I pick out “mudder trucker” in particular is the fact that lyrically the tracks of this artist is extremely clever with

some fantastic wordplay and that track in particular is a very good example, readers of this article would know that I am a very big

fan of storytelling and this is no exception especially in the softer tracks of this artist. To be fair storytelling has always been a

strong point of the genre in general and in the softer tracks the artist gets it just right in these records.

Overall there is a very good mix of traditional and modern in these records to appeal to anyone who loves the genre and would make a

great introduction to the genre to anyone new to it. The tracks individually are also very easy to pick up and play and due to the

versatility of all the tracks there will probably be a track for everyone in this selection and the very smooth well produced nature of

these records are very evident to see.

Ra Pete

Believe it or not this Australian acoustic artist

was introduced to me via an Radio Presenter down

under called Isaac Banks where this artist resides

and has been very well received. I must admit there

is a very soothing and calming influence on me

completely. I must admit the acoustic guitar riffs

really do draw you in and are completely standout

and pretty much the back bone of his records.

There are even some decent instrumentals in his

body of work which really brings to the fore how

much of a musician this artist really is, he is an

out and out musician first and a singer /

songwriter second; however this doesn't mean that

this artist cant sing or indeed write amazing songs

because he can. The other thing to note is all of

his songs only have two components, the man himself

and his guitar, what is particularly amazing is

that there are no drums, no band, no synthesisers

just all natural acoustics.

There is a rather simplistic nature to his lyrics

however there are some nice stories told in his

songs and This can be rather inviting to hear. In

the songs with some very artistic use of musical

beat in the lyrics as well; even though in some

songs parental guidance maybe needed with some of

the songs due to mild infrequent swearing. There is

also a mystical element to some of his tracks with

a slightly Asian influence to them, or at least

have a live performance feel to them in a large

hall somewhere But this really does add to the

charm of the performance.

I must admit that RA Pete has raw natural talent

and can make music from the bare essentials sound

wise which is an valued extremely rare trait these

days. However i do recommend his music to everyone

that prefers their music in the most purest form.

Hungry Girls

I must admit that this is my very first taste of the

Americana genre and I must admit I have really enjoyed

listening to the tracks presented. My first ever exposure

to this artist was through both Twitter and via

Reverbnation. I must admit that I am writing about these

tracks and the artist of this genre from an outsiders

point of view in many respects being based in the UK.

However here are some really amazing tracks that are

surprisingly accessible and fresh sounding to boot. With

a really enjoyable sound that in many ways is quite

relaxing; but more importantly stays very true to their

country, folk, and blues roots.

I will admit that the track “One Fine Day” really does

set the tone for the rest of the music, this track in

particular is extremely catchy and quite frankly the

chorus will really get stuck in your head for days and

the track really does have a natural musicality that you

can pick up and play and is quite frankly the most

American of the tracks presented to me of which will be

part of a new demo coming shortly.

There is a very soothing acoustic feel and sound to many

of the records that the Hungry Girls have to offer, but

with one or two more traditional style records that

compliment the other tracks well “Don't Mind Me” in

particular works particularly well. There is some good

lyrical observations from within the music that appears

to be a window into another lifestyle and that you

suddenly get transported into that part of America and

get a small taste to boot. There does seem to be a small

streak of sadness and another streak of will and

independence from within the records themselves that you

can really pick up on in these records.

The one thing that strikes out the most in particular is

the striking smooth southern accented lead vocals that

really are pitch perfect and that you get the feel that

somehow with each record you are peering at a page of a

woman’s diary, seeing snippets into their life at various

moments; which would make for a very good album in

general.

Overall these are very polished records of which I found

very easy to listen to and is a very entertaining slice

of America. The acoustic guitar is also next to perfect

on these records and overall despite being an outsider to

the genre in particular. Of course naturally folk is a

very niche market in general however I get the impression

that these artists will be very successful indeed and I

urge you to check them out.

June 2nd, 2006 – Muscle Shoals Sound Studios located in Alabama was added to the National Historic Register. The studio opened in 1969 when a local group of musicians called ‘The Swampers’ decided to leave the FAME studios to record on their own. Many famous acts, including Paul Simon, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Rolling Stones recorded there in the '70s. It switched hands in 1978 and was eventually abandoned, but in 1999 Noel Webster bought it and reopened the studio.

June 9th, 1990 - Members of the rap group, 2 Live Crew were arrested on charges of public obscenity after performing songs from their album As Nasty As They Wanna Be in a Florida nightclub. A few days earlier, a federal court ruled the album obscene, and therefore performing it was against the law. It got even more ridiculous when a cover band performed the songs for the purpose of getting arrested, which they did. Eventually, the ruling was overturned and charges against the rappers (and cover band) were dropped.

June 23rd , 1987 - 16-year-old Tiffany started her ‘Mall Tour’ at Paramus Park Mall in New Jersey, performing her would-be number 1 hit, "I Think We're Alone Now." Tiffany's producer came up with the mall tour idea when it became clear that her record company, MCA, was not going to promote her effectively.

June 27th, 2012 – Rihanna was evacuated from her hotel in London during a fire in the elevator shaft. It took 10 firefighters to put out the resulting blaze but all 300 people in the Corinthia hotel were evacuated safely. She was there for the Hackney Weekend Concert.

June 16th – 18th, 1967 – The Monterey Pop Festival was held at Monterey County Fairgrounds, California. The festival is remembered for the first major American appearances by Jimi Hendrix, the Who and Ravi Shankar, the first large-scale public performance of Janis Joplin and the introduction of Otis Redding to a large, predominantly white audience. It was also a focal point of counterculture and regarded as one of the beginnings of “Summer of Love” in 1967.
