What would you say inspires your music? I am inspired by a few things but the main inspiration is success, and to be successful in something that I love would be amazing. What has been the highlight of your career so far? So far it has just been a lot of long hours and hard work in the studio trying to find my sound. I am Currently releasing my music on to sound cloud and over media websites. but plan on perfecting my music and taking the next steps. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? If I could collaborate with one person it would have to be J COLE, the way he flows and paints a picture in his songs is incredible and it is something In Which try to do in all of my projects, SoundCloud - https://soundcloud.com/ggramzmmusic-gm Twitter - @GramzMusic

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

Dos Ringos is a collaboration between Trent Harris and Scot Heminger. A couple of life-long friends who grew

up in the small Northern Indiana town of North Webster. Scot has played guitar in bands since High School

and all through college. Trent primarily focused on playing solo acoustic type stuff. We first got together to

write and record original music back in the late 90’s. The first Dos Ringos demo consisted of about 5 songs

and didn’t really go anywhere. After several years we decided to get back together and start playing again. We

shared the songs we had written and formulated a new plan. We feel the new material is quite a bit better than

the original effort and are very proud of the fact that we did the release ourselves. And by ourselves we mean

we wrote and played all the parts ourselves as well as recording it and mixing/engineering and releasing it. We

even came up with the album art and website design ourselves.

What has been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry?

It’s a mess! It’s really a shame that the only people the majority of the population in The States ever get to

hear is what the “industry” itself is force feeding the public on the radio. There are so many great artists out

there that may never get heard. The other thing is to just be yourself. Don’t try to sing or write or sound like

anyone else. Write and play the songs in your own style. People like you for you, not for trying to be someone

else.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

We’d probably have to say with this new CD the coolest things have been to actually hear your songs being

played on internet radio shows from Texas to the U.K. And also to read a review or blog that has really nice

things to say about the music. It’s a good feeling to know that people that we don’t even know enjoy what we

are doing. Makes you feel like you’re doing something worthwhile.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be any why?

There are so many good writers and performers out there it would be hard to choose. Maybe a producer like

Rick Rubin or someone like that. Of course it would have been really cool to have been able to hang out at

Johnny Cash’s house back when Dylan, Kristofferson, Silverstein and all those cats would just hang out and

play music together. We really dig guys like Drive By Truckers, Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson as well as too

many others to name. Hopefully some day we’ll get a chance to meet some of them and just hang out and

maybe pick a few tunes.

What is coming up for you?

We have recently started recording tracks to our next project and hope to have it done by the end of summer,

we’ll see, there is a lot of time involved when you do it yourself. We have been playing a lot together

acoustically and just working material out together as an acoustic duo. We will probably be starting to play

some live things like that for the time being while we work on the next project. After that we may be looking for

a bass player and a drummer to work out the material with a full band and get out and play the material that

way.

If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

Probably the ability to keep coming back to life like the Sheriff on the Squidbillies. That way if all the bad habits

finally get you, you know you’ll be back. “Don’t Touch The Trim"

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? I am a singer-songwriter and pluridisciplinary artist. I first started out by founding my own multimedia theatre company which combined theatre, performance art and rock’n’roll. Then I met songwriter and musician Michaël Gadrat and the theatre company became a band. We performed under the name of « Teen Machine » and we released a concept-album called « Billy », the story of a female Billy The Kid, in 2005. I also wrote and acted in Edouard Baer’s shows for four years. Characters I played include a murderer-cheerleader, a tiger-woman, an S & M mistress, an ingenuous and seductive baby-sitter, and many other whimsical creatures. It was a lot of fun. As these artistic adventures drew to a close, I started to think about a new musical project, solo this time. With this in mind, I suggested to François « Shanka » Maigret ( The Dukes / http://www.thedukesmusic.com/) that we collaborate on a few tracks, as an experiment. It turns out that the collaboration has continued to this day ! He is an amazing guitarist, and we have been co-composing and performing together since, which is one of the most wonderful things in my life. As a solo artist, I have released an EP entitled « Six Uses for a Heart » in 2009, followed by the EP « Electric Ballerina » in 2011 and « Saint Sebastien », my second solo album in 2014. In parallel to my musical and theatrical activities, I draw and paint watercolours. I also design my own albums artwork. My school of though is punk and DIY. If you’re gonna do a show, draw the poster. Do it yourself. Surround yourself with people who understand DIY. There is this awesome movie called “D.i.y. Or Die: How To Survive as An Independent Artist” about it here, I would love to share the link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTh1q7sqlVo&list=TLs4_ywz8ZbKw I'm loving Saint Sebastien. It's a real portrait album. How do you get yourself in to the frame of mind to write such a masterpiece? First of all, thank you so much ! Well…you live…My music is the reflection of my experiences, of my joys and pains. I am not such a “balanced” person, so I guess you could say these are quite extreme emotions. When I was writing and composing the album, it was a very difficult time in my life. Everything was falling apart. My brain was a mess and my body was in pain. At some point, I was so low I was wondering if I was going to be able to go on. And that moment, I had a vision : Saint Sebastien. This vision saved me because it was the perfect illustration of how I felt at the time. And the thing is, Saint Sebastien is wounded and bleeding in all the paintings representing him, but he is also strong, defiant, sexy and provocative. I think he truly is the saint of rock’n’roll. After this vision, I knew I was going to be ok. Richard Dumas, the photographer who shot the front cover, took a picture that represented that so perfectly I was amazed when I saw it. What would you say inspires your music? As I said…life…the things that I see…imagination…The way I was created I guess. This is what I am meant to do. Transform life and dreams into songs. Do you know that song “Singer of Songs” by Johnny Cash ? This is how I feel about music and art. This is such a beautiful and timeless song, you should check it out. What has been the highlight of your career so far? I can’t say it’s a particular event. It is so strange, because sometimes this little gig with a bunch of nice people will be so intense and wonderful leaving you with a deep sense of achievement, and make you feel happy and worthy of being alive, and a huge event that you should be so proud of will not make you feel that way. See last week I was interviewed on a late night radio show, I performed with my acoustic guitar and drank beer with the radio host. It was a wonderful moment in my life. What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career? I would say the following : learn your craft on stage. I mean, if you know two chords and have something to say, make a song with two chords and perform that song in public as soon as you can. Rehearse it to the best of your abilities before then perform it. You will learn so much more than by performing in your room. Then you get better and better. Then, know that everyone is not going to like you and that’s okay because you would not like them either anyway. Fuck these people. Try to find your peers and collaborate with them. Watch a lot of gigs or videos of performers you like and feel their energy. If they are speaking to your soul, there is something for you there that you can make yours. Find out what it is. What is coming up for you this year? Opening for French band Indochine on the Black City Tour 3 in march, performing in festivals…a musician’s life ! I would love to tour in the UK as well, I am working on that. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? I would love to work with directors David Lynch and Michel Spinoza, to work again with Bruce LaBruce because they are extraordinary artists with an elegant soul. I would love to sing with Glenn Dantzig, Eminem, Kris Kristofferson and Donovan because each in their own way are powerful and moving. And I would love to collaborate with stage directors Joel Pommerat, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Franck Castorf, because I loved how mysteriously touched I was when I saw their plays. I love not understanding why things move me. It is magical. And last, I would love to play a character in the TV series “Nashville” because I love that show, that city, and I love country music! Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about the band? The Fruitful Earth play the sweetest Rock n Roll Music. There's a good deal of riff-laden piano and full tilt boogie drums. Live we're a trio - piano, bass & drums. David Gordon is the bass player - he's incredible! He plays v soulful with a heavy groove. Daniel Mayers plays drums & boy can he play. He's as at home playing the most insanely beautiful drum fills (we can't get enough of those) as he is trying out percussion with his kit playing. Sarah Blair plays piano & sings and writes the songs. We're a diverse band who get along really well and have a lot of fun. What advice would you offer to other musicians who aspire to be where you are in their career? I'm not sure people would aspire to be where we are! My advice would be do what you do with passion and try hard, follow your dreams & don't expect much money out of it.

I

love the piano in your music, it's really captivating. Who is the main pianist and where and when did you learn to play? I am ! (Sarah Blair). I started young playing classical piano. I would've loved to have learned about some other kinds of popular music but classical gave me a good grounding anyhow. I started experimenting with writing songs v early on and I guess my models at that time would be someone like Elton John (in my teens Bowie). I didn't hear a lot of piano on pop records other than that. Later I became obsessed with riff-based guitar music and when my attempts at becoming a guitarist didn't come to much (!) I tried that same music out on the piano...Hendrix, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Who. I love playing classical repertoire so some of my technique comes from playing Rachmanioff, Chopin, Debussy, Bach etc. If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone,

who would it be any why? Jack White - because he's got the riffs! I like the way he developed the White Stripes sound - keeping it raw and maintaining this beautiful sweetness to his lyrics. He's a gentleman rock n roller! I'm a fan of The Raconteurs & his solo work. He's continuing to make great music and he's also done great collaborations with others. It'd be great for TFE to do something with Mr White. What is coming up for the band? We're playing some insanely good gigs in the next few weeks. On May 1st we're putting on our album launch show at The Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston. It's going to be incredible!! We describe it as a Full Definition, Hi-Fidelity Rock n Roll Show and then some. Essex band Loose Joints are opening the night. We're lucky to have incredible music venues on our doorstep here in SE London and also local community places/cafes where crowds gather to enjoy live music. We're waiting for confirmation on a couple of very exciting festivals out of London & there's some pretty amazing radio in the pipeline. I'll be writing again very soon too.

If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why? To be all powerful! To be able to distribute wealth, power & food to everyone in need. To help people. http://www.thefruitfulearth.com https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Fruitful-Earth/273255078111 https://soundcloud.com/the-fruitful-earth https://twitter.com/FruitfulEarth

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? I'm a songwriter/producer/musician/actor best known for my music on all things Criss Angel. Including the MindFreak theme & his Vegas show Believe. I also place music on just about every network. After 11 years behind the scenes, I have just released my 1st solo CD. It's a soundtrack to a movie I'm making and will star in. If you could offer one piece of advice to new musicians looking to get where you are in their career, what would it be? My advise is to develop your skills. Play everywhere for exposure & promote the hell out if yourself. There are many outlets to be heard with the world wife web. What has been the highlight of your career so far? I don't think there could be just one. Some pretty amazing things have happened. One would be having the most amazing supportive fans. Getting my name and logos tattooed. That's a really commitment and I have and love for them doing it. A 2nd would be writing the MindFreak theme song. Criss was not famous like he is now when he asked me to write it. So seeing it become a piece of history is definitely a thrill. 3 rd I'd say is my latest project "Mick James Is Dead" it's a movie I've written & my CD tells the story. The songs have dialog pieces from the script. Putting it together was 4 years on the making. So finally getting it out there is an amazing highlight! What is coming up for you? Next is touring which I'm very excited about. The live band us just starting today actually. We have a few different countries were looking to perform in. & it will be a theatrical type show telling the story a bit about the movie. So can't wait to get out there & meet a lot of the amazing fans. If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why? Just for a day?I better choose wisely. I wish I had the power to find good homes for all the beautiful animals that get put to sleep in shelters. That's just such a horrible thing. Being a dog lover I wish I can save them all. So maybe being a super dog whisperer flying around the world saving them would be a great achievement.. http://mickjamesisdead.com https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/mick-james-is-dead-original/id85244847 https://www.facebook.com/pages/MICKY-JAMES-OFFICIAL-FAN-PAGE/103779476342876

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? We are a Glitter Punk band from Dallas, Texas. We were born out of roller derby, so our music and stage show are a bit energetic and hard hitting. What advice would you give to someone, looking to get where you are, in their career? Never give up. Constantly learn. Have a vision and go from there. I love your music! It's really good and the album 'Girl' is fantastic. Can you tell us about how it was put together and how long you were in the studio perfecting it? First off, thank you for taking the time to listen and the kind words. Minx and myself (Scary) demoed all the songs at home then took them into the studio to work with Taylor Tatsch (our producer). He helped hone in sonic ideas and we sorta found a really cool vision from that. It was like starting with a blank canvas when we went into the studio. It was cool to see each song we had written come alive in their own way. It took about 8 months to get it done…coming up with the time and the cash. We had a blast and learned so much! If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be any why? Trent Reznor. He has an edge and a softness. I think he is a wonderful producer, musician, front person and I could learn a lot from him… What is coming up for you? We are writing again. We started working with Dre Knight in L.A.. It's cool to collaborate and broaden your musical taste, see and hear music through someone else's point of view. If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why? But I already have one!! You have to guess which one it is!! Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

We have been The Ellipsis for a year now. John, Ben and Harry had been playing together for fun for four

or five years and already had a manager. Ben saw me (Henry) play at a charity show and invited me to

meet the other guys. We all hit it off straight away and when we started writing together it was just great, it

felt so right. We’re between 16 and 20 years old, all quite different, and yet the best of mates. It’s been a

fantastic year of writing, recording and gigging (and laughing, a lot of laughing!)

What would you say inspires your music?

Individually we all take inspiration from different things, that’s what makes us what we are as a band. We

bring all our ideas to the studio and the blend is what makes The Ellipsis. We also respect and inspire each

other for what we bring to every song. Lyrics and song-writing wise, we’re inspired by experiences we’ve

had and things we’ve done. Henry writes most of our lyrics and he likes songwriters with stories to tell,

artists who express their feelings in unique and creative ways.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Henry: Playing live gigs, I love losing myself on stage.

John: Hearing our latest single Magic Fades on the radio, there’s nothing like that feeling.

Harry: Being invited by BBC Introducing to play at The Wychwood Festival, our biggest break yet.

Ben: Recording with the brilliant John Rivers at Woodbine St Studios – the Drum Room was amazing!

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career?

Ha ha! We’re not sure we’ve made it far enough to be giving advice, but maybe it would be something

like… just find a way of expressing yourself in a unique way that people will be able to relate to and enjoy.

Practise a lot, be creative in your music and in how you engage with your audience, on and off stage. You

also need a plan. Decide what you need and work together to try and make it happen. You can ask your

friends for help too, we’ve been really fortunate to have some great friends who support and advise us.

Finally, have fun, because if you enjoy what you're doing and the music you're playing, then you've already

succeeded!

What is coming up for you this year?

Coming up first is The Wychwood Festival in Cheltenham. We’ve been asked by Brody Swain at the BBC

to play on the Hobgoblin Stage and we’re really looking forward to it. He’s been a great supporter of ours

this year and we love his show on BBC CW. We also have lots of gigs booked around Coventry and

Warwickshire and we want to get more of our songs released for people to download. We’re really

developing our own style and sound now. We love the process of taking the bare bones of a song and

creating something that is ours.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

That’s tough. So many amazing musicians inspire us and have made us what we are. Rock, prog, metal,

funk and jazz musicians have all influenced us but, if it had to be one person, it would be Coeur de Pirate,

she has an amazing voice. If we could work with any group in the world it would definitely be Biffy Clyro.

If you had a superpower for the day what would you choose and why?

The best superpower would be teleportation. Then you could be wherever you wanted in a split second. We

could spend the whole day exploring and still get back to Cov in time to play a gig.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

I own and operate Label Recruit, which is an A&R Consulting and Artist Development company based in Manhattan.

We do a number of things that work toward the overall goal of helping discover new artists and help them put their best

foot forward when promoting themselves. This includes our studio showcases, live concerts, online reviews, and

interviews.

The thing we're most known for is our studio showcases, where we bring unsigned artists in to perform for music

industry reps at a recording studio. While the artists perform live, we're recording a live EP for them and shooting music

videos. We use these videos on our site to promote the artists and also to submit their work to additional reps who

weren't able to attend live.

Separate from the company, I also advise the careers of Audio Engineers and Producers. So, taken as a whole, I help

to launch the careers of Music professionals on both sides of the glass.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

For better or worse, I've always been wired to go from one goal to the next with little time to appreciate the one that

was just accomplished, so it's hard to choose a favorite career moment. Scouting for RoadRunner Records was huge

for me, especially at only 20 years old at the time. I've been able to meet or interview a number of well known artists.

Still, I think the best times are still ahead, so I'll stick with the career highlight is in the next chapter.

What is the most enjoyable part of working with so many different artists?

Working with so many different artists over so many different genres from a business standpoint helps to refine your

ears. Sure, I come from a Heavy Metal background, but once you've worked with Folk, Jazz, R&B, etc. you start to

have a deeper appreciation for music as a whole. It also helps you realize at the end of the day, it's about the song. On

a more personal level, when you work with an artist and they end up surpassing all of your expectations, that's a great

feeling.

What the best success story you have had so far?

Success stories...from my days Scouting for RoadRunner there were a number of artists that I'd scouted who either

ended up signing with them or with another label. I'm not sure if I'm at liberty to go into specifics, but there are some

who have really developed into household names, and it's a trip to have known them when they were just teenagers

excitedly e-mailing you about their music and the label you're working with. For Label Recruit, we've got an artist right

now that's being wooed by a number of major and independent labels, so it's going to be interesting to watch how that

story develops. A number of artists have gotten gigs, label meetings, publisher meetings, music conference

performances, after doing the session. So, success comes at many different levels and is a subjective thing.

How did you fall in to this career path and what would you have done, as a career, instead of music?

I'm not sure how many people fall into the business side of music; I've had to work more hours than I can count to

make things come together. I'd be intrigued to hear an accidental career success story; I'd be envious. I started out like

most; I had a band in high school. I also had a makeshift recording studio in my basement where I'd record material for

the band and for other local bands and performers for their school projects. From there, I went to Drexel University in

Philly for Music Business. They had a record label there, where I ended up being on the A&R team and heading up the

Publicity team. A chance encounter came to meet with the head of A&R for RoadRunner Records (Nickelback,

Slipknot, Megadeth), and I passed along a CD of bands he should check out. I was invited up to NY, and ended up

starting as a scout for them while still in undergrad. The rest is history. As for what I'd be doing other than music, that's

incredibly tough to say, as I can't really imagine myself doing much else. Qualifications wise, I was also a Division I

wrestler in college, and I also possess an MBA. So, Wrestling Coach or CPA?

What is coming up for you?

We're producing a concert at the end of May at The Triad Theater on the Upper West Side of Manhattan that features

our two most popular performers from Season One of our online show. This summer, we're planning to venture out to

Los Angeles to do our first session there. In fact, we even launched a Pledge Music campaign to help the artists afford

the associated costs, so if anyone is willing to contribute, check out the link below. There are great incentives for

helping these guys out. Next week, I'm set to go back into the studio with two of our performers from Season Two and

produce a track with them in a Rap/Sung Collaboration. I'm hopeful for the outcome; it should be great. Who knows,

down the line maybe we'll make our way out to the UK?

We are a six piece prog-pop band

currently based in Sheffield; we all

studied at University here and loved it so

much we stayed though Gina was lucky

enough to live here already.

We are: Gina Walters - Lead Vocals and

Percussion, Annie 'Vankenstein'

Rushworth - Backing Vocals and Bass,

Nick 'Laos' Cox - Lead Vocals and

Guitar, Ben 'Kid' Hoblyn - Backing

Vocals and Trumpet, Jonathan

'Cornwall' Cornish - Backing Vocals and

Piano and Tim Walker - Drums.

Our musical philosophy is to write pop

music which is accessible but pushes

creative boundaries, we always 'try' to

set ourselves the challenge of doing

something different with composition

whether it's odd time signatures, intricate

arrangements or 5 part vocal harmonies

(quite often it's all three). We aim to

write songs which are catchy and

accessible but hopefully not cheesy.

The current incarnation of the band have

been active for about 2 years and in that

time we have released our debut album

(Screaming Maldini) and begun an

adventurous 12 month project for 2014

which we've called #monthlymaldinixii.

What has been the best piece of

advice that you have been given

about the music industry?

We had a meeting recently with a 'big

wig' and he advised us to 'keep busy

and look busy in order to get people to

take notice of what you're doing.' With

#monthlymaldinixii we're trying to do

that.

What has been the highlight of your

career so far?

Haha! Oh it was definitely getting a

tweet from Stewart Copeland! Though I

guess you'd prefer to know the collective

band highlight right? We're signed to a

label called P-Vine records and in April

we were lucky enough to go on a tour of

Japan. It was incredible, the people are

so cool and socially responsible, the

food is delicious, the landscape is jaw

droppingly beautiful, the music fans are f

antastic and very enthusiastic and of

course the toilets! Big shout out to Hideki

and Naoto at P-Vine.

If you had the opportunity to

collaborate with anyone, who would it

be any why?

There's 6 of us and we all have very

different but overlapping music tastes so

here's each member's collaborative

partner selection:

Gina - Beyonce Z

Annie - Bombay Bicycle Club

Nick - Burt Bacharach

Ben - Harry Connick Jr

Jonny - Justin Vernon

Tim - I've got a thing for Robson Green (of

Extreme Fishing fame) at the moment but

it's got to be Dave Grohl, I think he would

be great fun to be in the studio with.

What is coming up for you?

As I mentioned earlier we're currently

working on our project #monthlymaldinixii

in which we are releasing a track for free at

the end of every month for the whole of

2014. To accompany the singles we are

working with long time artistic collaborator

Ralph Wilson who is creating some

gorgeous art work to support every track, if

you get a chance check him

out ralpholiverwilson.com. We also have a

load of shows coming up, including one at

the Garage in London on 4th June for

MAMA.

If you had one superpower for the day,

what would it be and why?

Right now it would be to secrete insect

repellent. No wait can I take that back? I

would have nettle proof skin, my legs itch

like a proper little bad boy!

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

We have been a band for about 3 and half years now, we started in North Carolina, and made the big move to

Nashville TN in 2012. Nashville really gave us that boost we needed. There are so many studio musicians out

here, so with all the best of the best it makes you work extra hard to keep up with the crowd, and being a hard

rock band in the central for country music it keep us on our toes as well. Our members are Casey Self Lead

Vocals, Brandon Giancana Drums, Nick Giancana Guitars, Bryant Giancana Bass, Rich Lehman Keyboards and

Sam Deyton on Guitars.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

I think our biggest highlight right now is we were invited to play CMA Fan Festival June 5th at B.B Kings. It is a

country music only festival and they let us as a rock band in the event to play our original music. So we are very

honored to be even invited to the event and to play it really is a dream. Also our song Kingmaker got picked up in

a Motion Picture coming soon to the screen, so these 2 are probably our biggest accomplishments.

We love the track 'Kingmaker' and know it's going to be in a motion picture of the same name

soon. Can you tell us how such a fantastic opportunity happened for the band? Thank you so much for liking the song it means alot. When we came to Nashville in October 2012 a company

called Paradestormer was shooting our music video for City of Stone. They liked the music so much, they asked

us would we consider writing a song from scratch for a motion picture in pre-production. They told us the plot of

the movie, and we started writing the song immediately. We just got sent the trailer just a few weeks ago, and it is

amazing to see our song in a motion picture. Words can't even describe it, we are so honored.

What has been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry? It is a cut throat business, your best friends will become your enemy in a heartbeat. So hold on tight it is going to

be a very very bumpy ride, but still show trust in others, and show loyalty and you'll make it kid.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be any why? Wow that is a tough question. I would say 30 Seconds to Mars because those guys really work hard, they broke

the record for concerts in a year, and to be on that many shows would be awesome.

What is coming up for you? Coming up for us, June 5th is the big CMA Fan Fest day in Nashville TN we can't wait to play our set for the

country music crowd, and let them know rock is still big in this country music city. Bryant our Bass player has a big

Bass Clinic at Sam Ash July 9th in Gallatin TN, we will be playing our full set for the event while Bryant tells many

other Bass players why MTD sets the standard for Bass Guitars. NAMM is coming up in July as well, and we get

passes to go check out all the new gear coming out, so that is always fun. We are lining up a few more local gigs

and hopefully starting a summer tour soon. It is all in the works, and lastly back in the studio cutting some new

songs to get ready for the next album.

If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

Superpower Telekinesis how cool would it be to get 50 guitars, 20 basses, 15 drum sets, and play them with your

mind all in unison yeah it would be orchestra of metal.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

My name is A-Wibz an artist from The Redonda Camp.

I'm from NW London I have been making music for the last ten years. My family is musically

orientated so from young I've had a interest in music. I would rhyme to ragga and jungle

which later transformed into garage music, as I am from that era. My close friends

introduced me to Rap and from that point I never turned back . I've always listened to

Rap but began to take it seriously when the lyrics of garage music became repetitive. I

started recording at Lost Gardens Studio in London and joined a group called KRT (L.Don +

Herbal T = Kings Of The Round Table), which included myself and C-Note we make up

Redonda (which is our own independent label).

I love your latest track 'Hard Times'. Can you tell us a bit more about it and the

inspiration behind it?

I wrote it from the heart, I believe when you write music people have to be able to relate to

what they hear. We all face " hard times". I collaborated with a singer called Alonzo I

knew he would be perfect for the tune, this song shows versatility and two genres coming

together on one track. This is my second single from my Black Rose E.P which is out

now on I-Tunes. The Video is also out now on YouTube

What has been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music

industry?

It would have to be to stay in my own lane, keep my music original and last but not least ,if

you do it for the passion greatness will come.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be any why.

Female would have to be Lauryn Hill she's real, she's smart and she's a natural role model

for a lot of young women. Male artist would have to be DMX (not judging him on his current

state) but once again he is real he has had his ups n downs in life he does not pretend to be

someone he's not he's like Marmite you either love him or hate him, his lyrical content is on

another level.

What is coming up for you?

I have a E.P coming out soon titled "The Black Rose" and a mix tape to follow and currently

in the midst of organizing a few performances...... More music writing more videos and

maybe a few collaborations.

If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

It would be invisibility from young I've always wanted to do that.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

We are a East London/Essex based four piece consisting of Jonathan Chapman (Vox) Pete Muller

(Guitar/Vox) Pete Letch (Bass) Ian Clarke (Drums) We have been playing live since late 2010 but

had a break of nearly a year before we released ASSEMBLY so the gigs we have played recently

seem really fresh.

I have been listening to The Assembly EP. It's a great EP. Can you tell us a bit more about it?

We recorded ASSEMBLY in late 2013 at a fantastic studio in Homerton, East London called

Soundsavers. They did such a great job and it's the first time we've been totally happy with the end

result. We are really proud of this EP.

What has been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry?

It's advice we gave ourselves.Don't try to sound like the latest thing. East London is swamped with

grunge wannabes welI that and Shoegaze. Nobody liked Shoegaze first time round and I can't

understand English bands wanting to do the grunge thing.Stand up straight and have a wash. There

are a few bands who do it well and about another 100 who do it very badly. Where do they go when

the NME have moved on? Also be careful what promoters you play for. Loads of bad promoters out

there. Lots of great ones as well but you need to be careful not to waste your time with promotors

who promise the earth but really just want you to fill a back room in a pub for them.

Page 53: Love Music Magazine - Issue 11

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be any why?

For me it would be Damon Albarn without a doubt. I love the way he goes from project to project and never

loses that quality. I can't speak for the other guys but for me it's him 100%. anyone who knows me could

have answered that question ha ha.

What is coming up for you

We've just finished 3 or 4 new songs that we are really happy with. We want to get back in the studio in the

next few weeks and start work on the next EP. Not sure when the next gig will be. Probably sometime in

June/July.

If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why?

I'd like to start talking about my Spider - Man obsession but I need to maintain the cool front man persona ha

Hi Marcella, thanks for being in this issue of Love Music Magazine. Can you tell us a bit more about you? Hi Love, thank you so much for having me here! I was born Marcella Fruehan-most people call me Cell- near Dallas, Texas. I am eighteen and I graduated from Allen High School early in November of this year. I am a singer/songwriter and love what I do and invest my whole life into music so basically music consumes me (: and I have no problem with that<3! I love the track and video for 'Shaky Knees', and it looks as if it was great fun to film. Can you tell us what you enjoy the most about the recording process and why? Aww thank you so much!! I wrote and recorded this song 3 years ago when I first started song writing and it was always one of my favourites. It was so much fun to film! Filming music videos is one of my favourite parts of being an artist and it makes it even better that was for an original song I wrote. I just love when you can show a song come to life and build up a story!! What or who is your biggest musical inspiration? This is the hardest question to answer because I have so many different inspirations for sooooo many different reasons! Growing up I used to sing Joss Stone and I think she inspired the interesting tone and style in my voice. Justin Nozuka inspired me with his song writing and he was the first artist to make me think about pursuing music professionally! Macklemore inspires me daily because he writes true stories that make you relate and that’s how i want people to feel when they listen to my music.! What’s the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry? Well working up to this point I have been given lots of advice and do’s and don’ts and honestly, being an artist I needed to just be myself. I got so caught up in what everyone was telling me I needed to do, or what I needed to say, or what to be afraid of that I lost myself inside. I was losing the feeling of my love of music because it was beginning to feel fake and not like me. So the best advice is to just be myself! That's what makes me and other artists unique because this is what we love and we do it our way!! If you could collaborate with anyone else who would it be and why? I have an insane love for Macklemore and would LOVE to collaborate with him one day! I will make it happen because I think we would make some massive music together. I’ve been a huge fan of his since before day one, and I’m working my way up as an artist just like he did, and that is an inspiration in itself because he made it on his own and so can I <3! What is coming up for you this year? I have been writing and recording and working on finishing my album. I have also been performing around Texas and hope to go on a College tour when the school year starts.! If you had one superpower for a day, what would it be and why?! Ugh this is a tough question!! So many cool super powers to choose from but I think the most handy would be to teleport! Then i wouldn't have to drive or walk anywhere and I would never be late (;! follow me on Twitter and Instagram -@marcellasongs Subscribe to my YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/marcellafruehan! Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? We officially formed in 2009 when we got Harry (vocals) on board but the rest of us (Oliver, Maurice and Oscar) had been playing music together since we were about 13. We only started taking it semi-seriously at the end of 2012 when we were named "Phantom's Next ICON" by Phantom 105.2 (an Irish radio station, now known as TXFM) which led to us playing our first headline show and recording our singles, 'Heidecker' and 'Geist'. Love your two tracks 'Heidecker' and 'Geist'. Can you tell us a bit more about the tracks and the inspiration behind them? 'Heidecker' is named after our favourite anti-comedian, Mr. Tim Heidecker, who is one of our biggest non-musical influences. The song itself has nothing to do with him but the video is supposed to pay homage to him (by being generally unpleasant to watch). I couldn't possibly comment on the lyrical content of 'Geist' but I did edit the video. We just strapped a camera to our drummer's head and let him go about his business for the night and then tried to cut it down to 3 minutes of usable footage. What has been the highlight of your career so far? There have been a few. We recently recorded a track with producer Rob Kirwan (U2, PJ Harvey) and we were lucky to be invited to work with him again this summer. My personal highlight was our single launch in January, though. It was the first time we actually managed to fill a venue for our own show and it felt very nice.

Page 61: Love Music Magazine - Issue 11

What has been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry? If you try to look like an active band, people will think you are an active band and then hopefully ask you to do things and then you will actually become an active band. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? Tim Heidecker. What is coming up for the band? We're recording our first EP in June and we're going to try to have it out as soon as possible. Then after that's released we'll just try to play as many gigs as possible around the place to help push it. If you had one superpower for a day, what would it be and why? Mmm. Too hard. No comment. I reject the premise of this question. Maybe spidey sense. http://www.facebook.com/theboxingplot http://www.twitter.com/theboxingplot http://www.youtube.com/theboxingplot http://www.soundcloud.com/theboxingplot

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? I am DJ YRS Jerzy I manage an artist on the rise by the name of Chox-Mak also helping to build Hip Hop Vibe and also venturing into production and with independent label SKE Records. I have a lot of things going on right now that are getting ready to take off look me up on any social media you'll find me. What has been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry? The best advice to date that I got so far was given to me by Q The Question the co-owner of SKE Records he always told me "Learn The Business" which means to study this music business just don't come into the game like you know everything and take every advice you get into consideration. I learn more and more as the day go by from Q and it is always much appreciated. What he says is real talk and always gives feedback and keeps it 100 and I know that will make me a great business man. If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be any why? I just want to work with anyone who is serious about their career an the path they want to go in. I like working with people that are focused and know what they want in life. There were times I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and now I am officially one hundred percent sure that this music industry is a career I will definitely succeed in now knowing the subjects I’ve studied. What is coming up for you? There's a lot in the works I might be working with a couple major artists soon but I don't want to leak any information out just yet. I know for sure we should have a couple shows coming up this summer with me and my artist Chox-Mak. We are just waiting on the official dates to be released. If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why? It would have to be to fly I know that has to be a great feeling to be that high in the air and also controlling were you go. Hopefully one day they make a fully functioning jet pack that can help you feel the way of flying. I would be one of the first people to try it out (Laughs). Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

Well, I was born in Argentina, but left at the age of 19, and since then I've been living around the world: Spain,

US, UK. All for my music. I breath music, I live music, is all do I every day, every hour, every second.

We know you have come all the way from Argentina to the UK to progress and grow your music

career. What inspired this long journey?

That's a funny thing. The journey was in fact, inspired by a car accident. I was 18 when I was still fighting

between my music career and going to college. Everybody would tell me that at some point, I would have to

choose between them, but I was always postponing that choise. One day, when I was on my way to my

house, I got hit by a car, and ended up in hospital for 2 days. I was unconcious the first 8 hours, and when I

woke up, I decided I would give music a shot. I thought, this time I woke up, but what if I hadn't? I would have

lived my life without doing the things I really cared about. So that's how I decided "I am going to do it: I am

going to go to the places I want, do the music I like, and live my life"

We love the track 'Be What I'm Not', can you tell us some more about the track and it's writing and

production?

The track was written by me, and produced by Alem Sanchez, a Spanish producer. I wrote it one day I was

feeling that no matter what I did, not everybody was happy with my choices, especially my parents. On top of

that, when I left my house, life was tough, and I had to take my own decisions and confront the consequences

on my own.

What has been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry?

Nobody ever tells you anything about the music industry. Everybody has to make their path on their own, and

most of the times is by watching and learning, not really receiving a piece of advice, not even a tiny

suggestion, that is why it is so difficult to get in the music business. But if I had to think of any advice I would

give my younger-self it would be: "you have 2 options, stay at home, cry and think about how miserable is

your life, or pull yourself together and do it“

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be any why?

A hundred times Zedd. I just love his music, he is great on what he does, and that makes me want to be a

part of it. But recently I've been having this musical crush on Aloe Blacc, his lyrics are so sincere and

everybody can relate to them, and that's the line I want to follow.

What is coming up for you?

I have quite a few things coming up. There are 2 tracks, that are going to be released later on during the year.

And my Ibiza Tour! I've been selected to make the anthem for this tour and open each and every night. This is

a unique opportunity, I cannot believe they selected me out of the bunch of singers they had, specially

because I'm the youngest and I believe they have more experienced singers, but I they trust me and I'm not

going to miss my opportunity

If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why? I would love to be able to read everybody's

mind. So I would read the minds of the people in the music industry and get some secrets out of them.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about the band?

We are Overnight Collides, a rock band from Ottawa, ON Canada. Melissa Kay is our lead

vocalist/drummer. She has an amazing voice and throws down killer beats. Andrew Smith is the guitarist. He

has endless creative guitar riffs. Scott Chamberlin is our bassist. He plays a 6-string bass with one amazing

groove. When it comes down to it, we are three friends working together to produce fun and unique music, that

we enjoy playing and listening to ourselves.

I have had a listen to your album. It's really great. Can you tell us a bit about how it was all put

together?

Melissa – Piece by piece. There have been lots of changes to the band in the last year, but we managed to

pull tracks together one after the other. It was an amazing experience and worth the reward.

Andrew - It was a fun process - but stressful at times and a lot of hard work. It took 7 months to record and an

extra month to master. However, the timing worked out perfectly for the album release April 12th, 2014.

Scott - On the fly... was a nightmare but we have possibly made all of the mistakes that could occur so the next

one should be easier. Lots of research and planning involved but some of it was done after the fact, making it

more complicated.

Page 73: Love Music Magazine - Issue 11

www.lovemusicmagazine.co.uk | 73

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Melissa – Recording our debut album has been my highlight. Simply put – it’s been a dream of mine to

record an album for many years. For it to happen and receive such positive feedback is truly amazing to

me.

Andrew - Being offered the great opportunity to work with Brian Lanese (of the band Permanent Ability) for

our debut album. Without Brian and his team this wouldn't have been possible.

Scott - Producing an album... that people seem to like.

What's the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry?

Melissa – Do what you love and stay true to it.

Andrew - I haven't received any personally, but come to learn from artist is don't let the label change you.

Scott - With caution gain as much exposure as possible... even if it seems silly, if another person hears it,

that is possibly another fan earned.

What is coming up for the band this year?

Melissa – There is lots going on for us this year. More shows planned, new tracks on the go – it’s going to

be a very exciting year for us!

Andrew - Promoting the album, hosting our CD release party and continuing to play shows and create

music.

Scott - Recoup from exhaustion of the album process and get back to working on new things and having

some fun playing music again. Recording is work, sure you are playing music but, repeating the same

song every day for months to achieve perfection is not as much fun as just jamming your set list.

If you had one superpower for a day, what would it be and why?

Melissa – I thought I had superpowers already! All day...everyday!

Andrew – I have always wanted to be Spider-Man. Web slinging through the downtown area would be

incredible.

Scott - Time travel? Does that count? Rewind and fix some mistakes, minor things.

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? We're Chasing Dragons, a UK based hard rock band with a pinch of metal, a thrash of punk and a healthy swagger of rock n' roll. We've been a band since 2011 and we're married to the music. What would you say inspires your music? Anything really... Everyone has idols but most of our inspiration comes at the most unexpected times, from the least expected people. What has been the highlight of your career so far? That's tough but we think recording our new record "Checkmate" with Lee Batiuk (Deaf Havana) is one of the most memorable moments so far! He's a brilliant producer, very talented and so easy to work with. What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career? Work hard, play hard. Really! You get out what you put in so don't sit around on your ass and wait for things to come to you. Go and seek them out! What is coming up for you this year? We're really excited and proud to release our new record "Checkmate" on June 2nd and stoked for our release tour this Summer. After that? Who knows! Sign up to our website for regular updates... (www.chasingdragons.co.uk) If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? Freddie Mercury - because he's still one of the best performers to have graced the earth! If you had a superpower for the day what would you choose and why? Tank, Vocals - "Flight; to see the world from impossible perspectives" Mitch, Guitar & Vocals- "Breathe underwater; I could spend hours under water checking out girls in bikinis.." Ant, Bass & Vocals - "Morph; you could be anyone, do anything..." Kate, Drums - "Pyromancer; I like fire!" Can you put any social media links here? Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

We're a five/six piece band from Birmingham, whose music is inspired by

gypsy, punk, and two tone, as well as a million other subtler influences.

What would you say inspires your music?

The music is inspired by the urge to make something original and unique, to

start a party and to make a lasting impression.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Career highlights have included playing to some largish festival crowds over

the last few years (Nozstock, Boomtown, Swingamajig), managing to tour

Europe, and making an album with David Bowie's sound desk and Joy

Division's guitar!

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career?

Advice for up and coming musicians - expect it to be really fucking difficult for

ages, practise hard, don't allow yourself to be ripped off (and the list of people

that will try to screw you over is very long!) and most importantly, find your

own voice/sound and commit to it.

What is coming up for you this year?

Up coming this year, as well as releasing our second album "Kill The Beast" in

May we have a couple more videos to unveil in the next month or so, another

European tour in May and some festivals in the summer, such as Rhythmtree

on the Isle Of Wight.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

Tom Waits, because he's basically the godfather of all of us, and has been

brilliant throughout his career. His voice could work very nicely with our sound.

If you had a superpower for the day what would you choose and why?

For the superpower, I'd choose either invisibility so I could read all the secret

books in the Vatican, or flight so I could spend all day soaring around in the

sky, confusing pigeons.

Can you tell the readers a bit more about you? I don't know what I'd do if I wasn't a musician. Some people have day jobs and do music on the side, but I'd go mad if I didn't spend my weeks doing some kind of music. I've done loads of different things and even different genres, but what I love about writing and performing my own songs is that it's an expression of who I am. It's the most fulfilling thing ever! If you met me in person, I'd most likely be grinning or laughing about something. I'm addicted to hummous, the gym, milky tea, champagne, Wensleydale and cranberry cheese, Snarky Puppy, sunbathing and chocolate. Your album, 'The Lotus Bloom', is fantastic, congratulations. What was the main inspiration behind this? Thank you! Well, I wanted to write songs that would make people feel better, feel more hopeful, maybe to show people that there's more to life than the rat race or consumerism or settling for 'the norm'. These are songs and stories of things I and my friends have been through and lessons we've learned (or still learning). Musically, I wanted it to be organic and real - just 5 people in a studio capturing a vibe, the way it used to be done. I think we got that. If you could offer one piece of advice to other musicians who aspire to be where you are, creatively, what would it be? Be flexible... listen to the advice of people who know more than you, are better than you and have more experience than you. Take on the opinions and reactions to your music of non-musicians, as they'll probably be the ones to buy your CD - keep re-writing your songs until your absolutely happy with them, don't settle! What has been the highlight of your career so far? My favourite ever gig has to be the launch of my EP at the Hippodrome in London. I had an incredible band and the atmosphere was electric. It was the culmination of a lot of hard work and I could have done all again in a second! If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why? Ooh this is a hard one. If I was writing a funk track it would be Prince hands down. There is no one funkier on the earth. If I wanted to crack out some exceptionally poignant lyrics it would be John Mayer. As for someone in England, it would be the crazily talented JP Cooper - an up and coming soul artist I sing BVs for - someone well worth checking out! What is coming up for you this year? I'll be playing some gigs around the country promoting the EP, including the Cornbury Festival on July 4th. And I'm getting back in the studio to record some new stuff at the end of the year! Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

Every idea that makes us want to go out and clubbing is typically what moves the production along - with a couple of refreshers on

the way. And once the neighbours complain about the party (just the Curio and Sid really blasting the new track) we know were

excited enough about it to take it to the next level.

We formed as a team a couple of years ago in Birmingham. It all started out with a few productions and vocal sessions – Curio

tended to drop into the studio to get some vocals down for the odd track and refine some mixes with Sid. But it quickly went from

little improvements or ideas for vocal takes to day long studio sessions of completely restyling the track and including other

musicians – that’s when the first few tracks with the Frontere sound started emerging.

It all really developed when we had time to really work on material at New Market Street, their flat in Birmingham, which became a

central point for writing, recording and partying. It’s how Frontere works!

Curio is the creative driver and concept developer in word, sound and look of Frontere – he typically comes up with raw ideas,

unconventional sounds and beat patterns. Sid takes over from there – arranging, mixing and generally getting that sound to bang out

the way it should. Its all really a mix of who has an idea and jumps on the laptop, drum machine, guitar or vocals.

What would you say inspires your music?

This is always one of the questions you never know how to answer without giving a generic response. But to be honest its always

about what has happened or is happening in your life at the moment to give you that inspiration. If they are five people in the studio

and only two of which make music, it doesn't matter, just the fact we were all present made that song happen for one reason or

another.

“I am always inspired by interesting or abstract sounds that i can make a percussive pattern from which leads to creating a sick drum

beat and the rest is just standard Frontere from there on! You know the drill!" - Curio

“It often kicks off with something random – it could be a screwdriver scraping over a metal grate and we’d just stop and think: Nice

Hi-Hat sound! Then after that gets sampled its just about adding and ditching ideas as we go along. We like to get a mix of clean

natural instruments – strings, vibraphones, acoustic guitars and congas for example and combine it with dirty synths and samples.

Then if it makes us want to go out and party we know we’ve hit what we want." - Sid

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

It’s hard at this stage to boil it all down to one thing – probably the positive feedback and excitement of other musicians along the

way. We’re still the new cats on the blocks, but we intend come in with some serious noise! Frontere Baby!

What advice would you offer to other new musicians looking to get where you are in their career?

It’s all about a lot of dedication and keeping that balance with work and social life. I mean Frontere loves the party, but we also know

when its time to get something done – days and nights spent in the studio and working on organising projects!

Another thing that has helped us is to listen to all the people you meet and have an interest in what they are passionate about – you

always learn something that will help you later at some point. Always need to keep an open mind on that for sure as music crosses

over to all media channels and areas of life.

What is coming up for you this year?

Well we have two epic party tunes on the way. There is no way anyone is going to be able to keep still, when they hear them! We

also have a few very interesting collaborations in the pipeline, which we are really excited about; we can’t name-drop just yet, but

you won’t be disappointed.

One thing we can say for sure is that we have an undercover gig coming up this summer in a secret location - invite only! There is

more we want to say just no yet, but i can say it's for one night only! We are really excited about this – this will be a modified live

band setup with a couple of additions to give it an edge - playing the new songs for the first time!

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

We have always said we would want to collaborate with Britney Spears for so many reasons we will leave that there for now! The

Neptune's/ Pharrell Williams for sure, we just love the way the drum patterns are constructed, you could play any of their tracks with

just the drum track alone and there is still a vibe. Reminds us very much of J Dilla. Someone like Ellie Goulding would be some cool

too, love the character in her voice, especially what she did on the Figure 8 track. It seems as if she has a raw attitude to creating

her sound and the tracks she writes.

If you had a superpower for the day what would you choose and why?

"Well for me it would have to be that of the Human Torch, Johnny Flame from Fantastic 4. Would mean i could fly and set things and

on fire - what more could i ask for! Would definitely help with a flaming Sambuca." - Curio.

"Hulks anger management non-skills. Immediate queue jump at every club and bar! If that proves too impractical I’d like a magic

carpet – it’s a bit off-topic, but its your own “leave-it-at-the-cloakes” private taxi home." - Sid.

I spent time in Kingston Jamaica and the rest of my time in South London. What has been the highlight of your career so far? I'd say meeting Nas and performing live at a event in Brixton a few years back and having a group of young boys tell me they feel like there's more they can do than just hang on the roads selling drugs and they didn't realise that seriously until I connected musically with them, I'd say that was the most touching moment too date. What's been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the music industry? Be yourself, don't comprise your beliefs or integrity and handle it like what it is, a business. What would you say is your biggest musical inspiration? Life, the hustlers, the professionals, the single mothers, the romantics, the couples, The society structures we live in good, bad and indifferent. By April Love Music Magazine is a magazine for new musicians, do you have any advice to offer to anyone looking to get where you are in your career? Our main advice would be to try and do everything yourself. There's no rush to get a manager or a booking agent when you are starting out. Booking gigs and handling the behind the scenes stuff can give you a good perspective on how everything works. Once the band has reached a good level the managers will come to you. Who or what are your inspirations for becoming a band or writing music? We have such a mix of personal inspirations, and collective ones. Growing up listening to bands makes you want to be in one, after that, the fans make you want to continue on and write new material and play bigger shows How did you get the name ‘The detours‘? Is there a story behind it? Unfortunately there is no story behind the name. We just thought it worked at the time and have spent the last couple of years building on that name Where there any other names you were going to call your band, before deciding on 'The Detours'? Nope How did you all meet, or become friends? Ross and I started in secondary school, we were both in the same music class. Ally came in after a few years, he was only meant to be temporary as our last bassist left and we still had shows booked. Once we had played a few shows, he fit in really well with the band. We found Matt on gumtree, he was looking for a band and we were looking for a singer. He came in and belted through the songs and there was no turning back. Duncan was the last piece of the puzzle, Ross and Duncan went to uni together, so when our last guitarist left we got him in to try out and, same as matt, just came in and nailed the songs. How will your next album be different to your past one? when we are writing we are always want to get better, and push ourselves. It's hard to say if it's going to be that different, we have found a good sound and will continue to explore what we can do with that sound How do you feel about how rock and roll has evolved over the years? It's grown massively. Years ago there was just rock and roll and then it just started subdividing further and further. There's still a great amount of fans out there wanting to hear something fresh in the 'rock' genre even if it isn't as prolific as pop. What is next for 'The Detours'? We just released our EP 'louder in the dark' and have the single/video 'Next to You' to promote. Hopefully be able to get up and down the country and some festival slots. www.facebook.com/thedetoursuk www.twitter.com/thedetours http://wearethedetours.com/

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you? We are 2 kids, happy to grow up with good music, stoked to live the way we do and curious about all the shaky moments we get to experience as a band called 'white miles'. We describe our music as 'dirty pole dance stoner blues rock' - straight out of our souls - guitar, drums and vocals. That's our band, we don't want anybody else to be in this band. Plus, we are very uncomplicated and good party friends. What would you say to anyone who is looking to get where you are in their career? You know, the thing is, there is no masterplan or rule to stick to, you just keep doing what you think is best for you and then things work out however they do, and you should be comfortable with it. How does it feel to be on tour with Courtney Love? Can you tell us how the opportunity came about? We are stoked to the bones. It's our second Tour so far. At our soundcheck in Amsterdam, on our first European tour with Truckfighters and Valley of the Sun, we got a message from our management saying: 'you will be touring the UK with Courtney Love in may.' High on life, we just sent a message to Courtney Love's management, asking if we could join her on this tour. Done, Deal - it's going to be a hell of a trip! Other than this, what has been the highlight of your career so far? Releasing our debut album 'job: genius, diagnose: madness' and touring through Europe for a month in cities we have never been before!!!! Our show at Pollorock in Martellago, Italy last year in may. The whole scenery, the people, the drop, the lights and the road trip itself. ;) And the time we spent in Grenoble, France for the final show at Divercities - 'Fete de la musique festival' ! It was ten days of hanging around, playing, and having a good time with musicians from all partner cities of Grenoble. ..we did absolutely nothing but enjoy ourselves! If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? Medina: I would say, PJ Harvey, her unique songwriting makes me curious. I always wanted to hear her voice with my guitar playing. Lofi: At the moment, I would want to have a blues jam with Rory Gallagher, and he should also sing, he’s awesome! What is coming up for you? Of course more touring. We are writing down our life in new songs, hanging with our friends, listening to tons of records and we are pushing each other with motivation a la white miles style. And we will be working on new video material, so stay tuned on youtube, facebook and on www.white-miles.com!!! If you had one superpower for the day, what would it be and why? Medina: I want to beam myself wherever I want to be right now. Lofi: I would like to have the knowledge of a super cook by the time I wake up and then prepare dishes for the rest of the day! Simply because I love food!

Can you tell the readers of Love Music Magazine about you?

Hi everyone I'm 19 and I'm a singer-songwriter from Leeds. I have been writing songs

since I was 15 and have been singing pretty much my whole life. I am currently in the

process of recording my EP.

The style of music I tend to create is a mix of folk and soul. I love the pure tones of folk

music and the passionate vocals that soul music has, so I like to blend the two

together to make a unique sound

A lot of my songs are about personal life experience. Heartbreak, Love etc. which are

issues that everyone at some point in their lives will have dealt with one way or

another......so hopefully people can relate to the things I sing and write about.

I also busk more or less everyday in Leeds City Centre. I see it as great performance

experience as you have the most honest of audience .If someone thinks you're awful

or .....awesome they will tell you. It has definitely boosted my confidence and

strengthened my self belief.

What has been the best piece of advice that you have been given about the

music industry?

I would say it is to dedicate yourself to your craft and stay true to yourself as an artist.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

Ooooohhh ! I would absolutely love to collaborate with Prince. His vocals are amazing,

he's such a talented artist with his own unique style. He's an artist that I have looked

up to throughout my life.

What is coming up for you?

I'm releasing my EP later this year and playing quite a few gigs this summer.

If you could have one superpower for a day, what would it be and why?

It would have to be teleportation. Because I could travel the world in a day. I could

jump from Leeds to Los Angeles in seconds.

“ Typhoid Rosie

It has once been said that this artist once made the

Royal Guards outside of Buckingham Palace laugh, and

that once they were a comedian for 10 years. With such

apt abilities already sometimes I am surprised they

would make such a drastic career change after so long,

but henceforth they have released “The Music Album” and

that career choice was possibly a great choice to make.

I must admit the album does seem to be a mish mash of

different genres crammed into one album, from

contemporary dance all the way through indie to retro

smooth ballad. However throughout it all there is a

consistent theme or sound through-out. I must admit the

vocals are rather unique and seem to be the key feature

throughout all of the tracks and I must admit Typhoid

Rosie can sing but there is something about the vocal

that I cant quite put my finger on that makes it

special, even if it is unpolished in places. What is

particularly impressive is the versatility of the

artist switching from genre to genre almost

effortlessly but without losing quality with each track

seemingly as good as the track before it.

What is the key track is the brilliant “Your Not The

Father” and like with other tracks within the album

seem to have a moral fable attached to it, but the

experiences as a comedian really do come to the fore

with some amazing wordplay and the album is lyrically

strong. In particular with your not the father there

are some real visions of Jeremy Kyle in there and the

album starts to serve as a social commentary all

wrapped up in some fantastic musicianship. There is a

political edge to the record which is also deceptively

sharp.

Talking of Jeremy Kyle and television in general there

is another track which mentions Flipper later on in the

album. I must admit as you travel through the musical

the tracks seem to get dark in places but there are

some fantastic tracks offering a more upbeat and catchy

respite from the darkness. In particular there are some

fantastic beats and indeed some great riffs within

these tracks as well and it gives the album a nice

balance.

Overall this is a great album to look into if you are

electic in your musical tastes and enjoy musical

journeys into the perception and mind of the artist.

Beyond Vegas

This is a band of which has a very classic

but accessible rock style. It is very much of

note that front man Neil Miel is pretty much

the driving force behind this band; The first

thing you hear is some very smooth and well

polished production values and from the off

you can tell they have spent a lot of time

together perfecting their sound. Much like

their name their music really does deserve to

be heard beyond vegas and many other places

as well.

These guys do have variety though for they

can rock so completely hard and the next

you'll find them creating the most intricate

of melodies the backing singers from within

the band are as good as the frontman himself

and there is a depth of talent within this

group vocally. Although i must admit that

Neil himself does have an incredibly unique

voice and adds to the overall sound of the

band. With some very strong guitarists also

in the group this leads to a very potent mix

indeed. Especially with a mature gravelly

rock sounding main vocal within their midst.

There is a very pop sound to their style of

rock and you do wonder with the quality of

the bands tracks on Sooner or Later EP it is

worth noting that the founding members of the

band played together 20 years previous; and

this dynamic is important to the band. You

can tell that the band members know each

other intimately And the catchy guitar riffs

are executed almost to pop / rock perfection

This band really have thought it through,

they seem to know what they are aiming for

and what they are trying to achieve. In

particulaR with the title track sooner or

later there really is an uplifting feel to

the track that makes you feel happy inside.

Some of the tracks remind me of great stadium

rock bands and great stadium rock tracks of

the past that have charted in the UK charts;

and they could do exceptionally well in my

view, with a smooth sound that could fit

easily on many a mainstream radio station

play list.

Elephants And Castles

Believe it or not this band is named after the pub where the

band actually formed, even though I wish I was a fly on the wall

when the band was conceived; because everyone knows that all the

best ideas come from a night out in the pub and this is no

exception. The band also has a wicked sense of humour of which I

can just tell by the bands e-mail address alone (I love it

obviously) but I digress; as with everything they are all about

the music as am I.

I must admit this is a fantastic slice of indie that is very

bright, very uplifting and very summery with a massive dollop of

hope and good times; this really is music for good times, good

parties and good fun. The one thing that really stands out about

this band is the melodies of the bands vocals, as each band

member really do compliment each other and you get the

impression that each band knows each other inside and out

musically, these guys are not just your run of the mill indie

band but they are also a male vocal harmony group as well.

The reason I say this as they have one or two stripped back

versions of tracks that really does show off their vocal talents

and shows a more delicate side to their personalities' one track

that springs to mind is Fashanu that really is brilliantly

executed and the guitar is played perfectly technically and the

acoustic tracks really are the band at it's best with very

smooth vocals. The lead singer in particular has a very unique

Even lyrically they can be quite emotional and moving as well

that can speak to the heart of the listener.

Although I do have visions of summer bar-be-cues, holidays and

parties with this band I cant help that despite the extremely

fresh contemporary modern sound is a band that truly harks back

to they heyday of the 1990's of Madchester and Brit-pop most

noticeably the vibes (but not necessarily the sounds) given by

the likes of The Stone Roses, The Boo Radleys Ocean Colour Scene

and a few others I could mention as well. The records this band

produces are really infectious catchy feel-good tunes that

wouldn’t sound out of place during the upcoming festival season;

and you can see Elephants and Castles doing well within a music

festival environment.

The thing about Elephant and Castles is that their tracks are

the kind of tracks that become the background to memories and

the soundtrack to peoples lives. Not only this but the records

do have a danceability and a re-playability that is so difficult

to achieve. I for one almost start singing along to it like I am

some imaginary virtual member of the band (with the notable

lament that unlike the band I have no vocal talent)

I tell you something these guys are ones to watch.

Billy Brown

This artist is already well established with a look a very

polished logo and more importantly as well a very established

sound, although at first look it might seem that there are

certain simularities with other artists that may well wear

spectacles and it is prominent in listeners memories as such like

John Lennon, Elton John, Roy Orbison or to a much lesser extent

Noel Gallagher; but alas Billy Brown is a very different animal

to the above artists entirely.

The one thing to note is that i have heard through the grapevine

that Billy Brown is looking to perform at more live events and

that he sees himself as a live performer, and on first listen to

his Soundcloud you can really see that this is the case. As the

first tracks on his Soundcloud are exactly that, excepts from his

live performances. The thing to note is that many of these tracks

are acoustic, stripped back affairs, this is always a risk for

the artist however that there is no-where to hide.

Saying that Billy does have the voice and the acoustic skills to

carry it off. A smooth soothing voice with very gentle and

technically brilliant acoustic guitar playing. I must admit that

the live recordings do tend to back up his preference and

fondness for live performance. There is also a quintness about the

way he introduces his tracks before Billy plays the track, you

get the notion that the relationship between Billy and his

Listeners and Fans as a very personal and treasured connection.

His love of performance has also lead him to perform on radio

stations through Skype even for charitable causes which is

another element to his character that sets him apart from the

rest.

Even though his original performances are exquisite in many ways;

Billy Brown has also done some very top drawer covers of

legendary artists and one to note in particular is his cover of

The Clash - The Guns Of Brixton. His cover versions aren't just

souped up kareoke pieces either but constructs his own

composition with his own laid back, stripped down acoustic style

that really does work. Although he does offer a range of

different song styles and tempos

It must be said that his slower more mellow tracks is the great

superpower of this artist and really are the standout moments of

this artist, with heartfelt emotion and an ability to tell a

story that really does make you melt into the track in question,

taking you on a music journey of feelings and memories and you

get the impression that they come straight from his own memories

of days gone by.

I really do recommend this artist for those that like singer /

songwriters in their purest form (and even fans of The Clash

purely for his covers) Then Billy Brown is for you and I

especially recommend that you go see him live.

The Notions

I first got the message about this particular artist last month; and to be honest if you appreciate the old school you will really

love this band. Ireland is also known for some fantastic musical heritage and The Notions are no exception. They have a new EP

available from all good online retailers called Scoop So naturally I had to check them out and I must admit they really are a

surprise package out there.

The first thing of note are the fantastic guitar playing of Damien Quinn who seems to be extremely versatile with his guitar playing

and with the range of genres that The Nolans seem to cross through their discography this is pretty much a virtue in a lot of

respects. With such a wide range of the band sometimes you feel they might run the risk of the record sounding uneven or that the

record wouldn't flow like an album or EP should. However I am pleased to say that they somehow they pull it off with the right mix of

hard and soft that is really compelling.

Add to the mix the vocals of Laura Thomas and you really do have a great recipe for fantastic records, her smooth, sultry and sensual

vocal seem to suit the music of The Notions perfectly; her vocal particularly excels in the harder rock tracks and the blues tracks

really well. It is an inviting vocal that really does suck you into their musical realm.

The surprising thing that really stood out to me what their cover version of Elvis Presley's “Hound-dog” took me from left-field and

I really wasnt expecting it. Mainly because you simply dont just cover Elvis Presley, many have tried and failed, but there is

something special and unique about this version of the track that seems to hit all the right chords with me, in particular the

composition is so completely different from the original you can sense that the Nolans really have put their own unique mark on the

track in question.

Overall if you are particularly a big fan of rock music or blues done in the traditional style than this band really is for you. I

must admit that I do expect down to the sheer quality and musicianship displayed in each individual track that the upcoming EP will

do exceptionally well in those online retail stores. I do however recommend checking out their music because it is a feast of retro

sounds, old school rock and heavenly guitars and you will not regret it.

Go Native – Sleep Patterns EP (2014)

Go Native is a four piece band based in Manchester. This is their first release with Scruff of the Neck Records and it released on April 5, 2014. The EP starts with Beaten by Butterflies. Drifting into this track, the instrumentals work their way into the beat that the vocals ride on like a boat on calm waters, sailing across the horizon of a scene with the lushness of color that pierces the heart with the words slicing through as falling feathers. Sleep Patterns starts upbeat, the dance like beat thrumming in time with the vocals. “Sometimes You Have To Let It Go”. The words we all think are easy to say and hard to do. Within a dream or awake, this song leads us into the mirror of ourselves. Can we let go those things we made mistakes on, trusting it will all work out. The vibration of this track enhances the message of the lyrics, the inner vibe of life beating from within, reflecting that which is on the outside. Napoleon is gritty, in your face lyrics, juxtaposed with strong instrumentation building behind them. The crescendo stretches the limit but stays just on the edge, pushing the listener to lean in, feel the song. The melody has its own story to tell, branching out from the vocals, driving the scene, like sunlight driving back the darkness, the melody opens up slowly then into a burst, the journey coming to a close. Atom Heart starts softly with lyrics that bite as they flow out leading into the songs lift about 47 seconds in. The pulse of this song leads the listener farther into the song, drawing out memories of past paths not traveled in relationships. Sonic dreams beating to the surface to the refrain of “It’s Not Yours To Take”. Give way to the flow of this track, letting it lead you down that path of connections. This is their debut video single available at - http://scruffoftheneckrecords.com/2013/12/09/go-native-atom-heart-video-premiere-watch/ Out of the gate, Dunes packs a punch. There’s the rhythm that pulsates up at 42 seconds in. The vocals cascade through the lyrics becoming the voice in your ear, lulling you and yet pronouncing their vitality. The embrace of this track lies within the superb instrumentals throughout, never overpowering but round through everything from gentle to urgent, flowing easily between the changes. The small flurry that opens Electric Chair balances the beat and vocals that kick in, culminating in the steady lift the song reaches by 1:12. The journey within the song, at once a dream a nightmare an experience the listener gets folded within. Have you been here before, this journey within the lyrics that’s propelled forward by music that can stand on its own, driving the storyline, creating its own journey outside the listener, creating the characters out of the aura of the sound. Go Native’s Sleep Patterns EP is 6 songs full of consistent vocals and instrumentation that’s a joy to hear flow through, over and around the mind as the tracks become neurons in the listeners brain, connecting memories,

feeling, stories and consciousness together in a network that beats with brilliant dimension.

Overnight Collides is a hard rock band from Ontario, Ottawa. This EP is their debut album produced by Brian Lanese from the band Permanent Ability. Trials kicks off their self-titled album and starts off light and slowly works its way up to “Scream”. There’s a deliberate placement of punctuation on wording and pauses. The use of the cymbals in the song lends to bring the song into the border between hard rock and metal. The guitar heavy instrumentation makes the drums not only complimentary to the music but makes the untypical rhythm stand out. It’s by no means a one-time listen. I found the first time I wasn’t tuned into the song due to the unusual instrumentation, it was by no means bad, it was very interesting and I spent the first time focused more on it and less on the vocals to really get into how the instruments sounds came together. In the second and subsequent listens I started to hone in on the lyrics which are very well thought out and rides the music carefully giving room for silence in places and pops of wording to accentuate the meaning within the song. Trials is a jolt into the realm that is the Overnight Collides, where they aren’t what you’re used to, they careen you off the highway into a musical tangent where you’ll find leaving to be very difficult. Inspire starts with a great guitar introduction then again the drums kick in and the vocals last. There’s this signature forming by this second track of the drum beat/cymbal rhythm that balances the song but also could stand on its own. As the lyrics “Let tomorrow take control” thrum into the listeners ear, the song inserts itself into the mind, journeying through the synapsis and take over the scenes the listeners mind is viewing and completely re-writes them into the story the lyrics have in store for them. There’s no rainbows and magic here, but a freedom of movement as you want to throw your arms wide and run free in the rain grabbing the future to pull it in faster. The pulsating opening to Like You Mean It again bridges the fence between hard rock and the feeling of speed metal. Coupled with hard hitting lyrics, this song is a hard slap the listener can deliver to someone that’s done them wrong. “This is the last time I give in to you” perfectly hammers home what we’ve all wanted to say to someone at some point. This song is a great middle track to this album. It showcases a rougher side the band is capable of, delivering some familiar but not quite rock. A definite multiple listen, loudly. Transitioning into Fallen Reigns brings an opening that is more rough rock balanced with a hard edge. Again the lyrics are well thought out and there’s a great dynamic that the band produces between the music and the vocals. The vocals here are a borderline growl in places and I found I liked a lot, as they defined the wording in places that drove the meaning home. This song also gave the band a chance to produce what I would imagine is closer to hearing them live as the music drives the listener toward the edge, unshackling from the headphones and seating to jam unfettered only to dive for the replay button at the end. The album finishes with Surrender which is my favorite track. It’s the softer side of the band but not too soft. The hard rock edge is definitely there and the band doesn’t let the listener off the hook with a ballad, but caresses them into the song only to “Surrender your heart…” which is evident as the lyrics pull you in toward the drive that will come up and hit you throughout the song. The play of hard and lighter instrumentation really accentuates the diversity of sound they are capable of. Overall this is a really well balanced debut album. There’s plenty of room for the band to grow and stretch the boundaries that we normally think hard rock lives in. They’ve not only bitten off a chunk in this album, they’ve left plenty to go around and come back to over and over again. Play the songs in order, reverse order or from the middle the replay button is close at hand whatever is chosen.
