St. Pius X School Friends & Family Day
Catholic School’s Week celebrates school families and special friends with a Mass, open house and social on Wednesday,
February 1st. Your family, along with extended family members and friends are invited to join your students for the special
festivities. The schedule is as follows:
12:45pm - Students are checked out from the classroom by family and/or friend and taken over to Mass to sit with them.
1:00-2:00pm - Mass Collection will be donated to Faith Café
2:00-3:00pm - Classroom and School Visit
2:00-3:30pm - Uniform Exchange, Used Book Sale and Social in Community Center.
We look forward to hosting all our school families and special friends on Wednesday, February 1st!
I look forward each year to the last week in January when we observe National Catholic Schools Week.
As a school, we recognize the value of Catholic education in educating our young people so they can reach their full potential.
We acknowledge the vital role of the school faculty, staff, and volunteers in this effort.
This year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service.”
The theme highlights the fact that Catholic schools are not only communities themselves, but also part of the larger communities
like St. Pius X Parish. Catholic schools are, in the first place, communities of faith, where children are openly taught about God, where God is worshiped regularly, and where students and faculty
put their faith into practice on a daily basis. Secondly, Catholic schools exist to pass on knowledge, not just the practical knowledge of reading, writing, math, science, and so on, but also the knowledge
of God and truth, which is our spiritual heritage as Catholics. Finally, Catholic schools are communities of service, places where helping one another and aiding the needy are the normal way of
living life. The school, in collaboration with you, the family, develops our children into future leaders and citizens. Faith development, academic excellence, and dedication to service are what make
Catholic schools special, what sets us apart from other educational options.
From my personal direct experience in Catholic schools – as a student and on the other side of the desk as a teacher and
administrator in elementary education – I can verify how true faith, knowledge, and service are integral components of Catholic schools
and the measures by which any Catholic school can and should be judged.
I am grateful for your support to this school. May God bless all the work we do on behalf of our children.
Mary Thompson, Principal

Yesterday, we gathered with our Liturgical Ministers who serve us here at St. Pius X every Sunday. I spoke to them about the role of Stewardship. This is a word that we will be hearing a lot in the next several years. We will be diving deeper into what being a disciple calls us to. I used the letter of the USCCB, Stewardship: A disciples Response to help begin the conversation. We need to get better a answering the question of “Why?” we do what we do. That answer needs to be rooted in Jesus Christ. “Introduction Three convictions in particular underlie what we say in this pastoral letter. Mature disciples make a conscious, firm decision, carried out in action, to be followers of Jesus Christ no matter the cost to themselves. Beginning in conversion, change of mind and heart, this commitment is expressed not in a single action, nor even in a number of actions over a period of time, but in an entire way of life.” “It means committing one’s very self to the Lord. Stewardship is an expression of discipleship, with the power to change how we understand and live out our lives. Disciples who practice stewardship recognize God as the origin of life, the giver of freedom, the source of all they have and are and will be. They are deeply aware of the truth that “The Lord’s are the earth and its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it” (Ps 24:1). They know themselves to be recipients and caretakers of God’s many gifts. They are grateful for what they have received and eager to cultivate their gifts out of love for God and one another.”

This Sunday we can reflect together as a parish community and move into the week, reflecting on the Beatitudes, seeing where we are blessed, reflecting on what we have received from the One who loves us the most. And perhaps
we can all respond to our being blessed in how we will live our lives in the days moving forward.

Sunday evening meal and Saturday lunch is prepared and served by volunteers from the churches. Over the past 10
