NEEDLES AND EXTRAS 1 pair 4.5mm (UK 7) knitting needles and a 4.5mm circular knitting needle (80-100cm long) or size needed to give correct tension. • tapestry needle for finishing. TENSION 1 patt rep (16 sts and 32 rows) to 8cm over Centre patt, using 4.5mm needles. To work a tension square, using 4.5mm needles, cast on 34 sts. Work 64 rows Centre patt. Cast off loosely. Check your tension carefully. If less sts to 10cm use smaller needles, if more sts use larger needles. NOTE – This shawl has been worked on larger needles and at a looser tension than usually recommended for this yarn. TO MAKE UPUsing a flat seam, join cast-off end to cast-on end of border. Using mattress stitch, sew border evenly around centre.Block to shape – on padded surface, pin shawl out to given measurements. Spray with water and leave to dry, OR steam lightly, holding iron above work without touching. Shawl should be left until completely dry and cool, before removing pins and sewing in ends.
