CHAPTER THIRTEEN

“Mom, breakfast is ready,” Mrs. Fujimoto told Grandma Megu who was

reading the morning newspapers in the living room. The mansion was as big

as a villa. Mrs. Fujimoto took for almost 10 minutes to get to the living roomfrom the kitchen. There were 14 rooms, 10 bathrooms, 6 studies, a snooker

room, spacious swimming pools along with a soccer field-sized kitchen.

Grandma Megu hired for about 20 maids, 5 gardeners and three chefs.

The mansion was located in a rich neighbourhood and it was the biggest

mansion there. Even a castle could not win against the beauty of the

building. It was built since 1945. Even though the family had a small number

of members but Grandma Megu loved to live in there. She would love having

future grandchildren so in the mean time, after succeeding in making Tezuka

married, she was overwhelmed to get a new family member.

“How does my Maimi doing?” she asked out of the blue, putting down the

newspapers. Mrs. Fujimoto neared her and bent down, “What’re you talking

about?”

Grandma Megu adjusted her glasses and sighed. “It’s been a month since

they’re married. They don’t even call me.” Mrs. Fujimoto smiled, “They must

be busy, mom. They are both working. Please don’t disturb them. They have

a life.”

“What are you-,” Grandma Megu hit her daughter’s head. Mrs. Fujimoto

gasped. “I know, you fool! It’s just that I would like to meet them. Even for a

while!”

Mrs. Fujimoto held her head and nodded. “I’m sorry.”

“I wanna meet them this evening. Yes, this evening. Get me the phone,”

Grandma Megu called. Her daughter slowly reached for the golden receiver

and handed it to her old mother. After dialling for Tezuka’s cellphone

number, that old granny waited eagerly. Mrs. Fujimoto felt horrible to let her

mother do that.

After a while, Tezuka picked up the phone. “Hello?”

“Oh, hello, Tezuka? Grandma Megu, here,” she began. “What can I do for

you?” he asked. He inserted a tiny sigh. Grandma Megu tilted a bit when she

heard that. “Um, how are you doing, dear?” she asked, giggling.



“You don’t need to worry, granny. I’m fine.”

“How’s Maimi?” Grandma Megu added. Her eyebrows curved with

excitement, waiting to know about Maimi’s condition. Tezuka silenced for

seconds and said, “She’s fine. We-we’re both fine. Look here, granny. I’m

sorry. There’s a big meeting coming in another five minutes so I can’t talkmuch.”

Grandma Megu’s eyes widened. “Uh...uh...wait! Wait! I wanna see both of

you this evening. Is that possible?” Mrs. Fujimoto looked at her with disbelief.

She slapped slightly at her mother’s thigh, muttering to not to invite them

over. But Grandma Megu shot her a flint glance.

“I see what I can do. I’ll call you back later. Bye,” Tezuka replied and hung

up. Grandma Megu froze. She slowly put down the receiver and sniggered,

“He’ll call back later.”

Tezuka let out a depressed sigh as he hung up. He spun around to see Maimi

was looking in the mirror beside her office door. She was getting ready for

her first meeting. Obviously, she was not that important in that meeting

since she acted as Tezuka’s little manager. Despite that she was just getting

to start, she could not hold the role as what she was instead, Ayaka ruled as

the second after Tezuka.

Ayaka was in a neat office suit. Her long red hair was tied into a ponytail and

it reached her waist. Her make-up was perfect that day and her three inches

Vincci high heels had made her day. She looked like a high class office

worker. Everyone respected her for being Tezuka’s PA. She loved how people

were looking up at her.

As she came into the meeting room, she was joyful to see her boss in black

suit. It fit him well. That was her favourite suit. A pile of files was put onto the

oval desk. Tezuka nodded. Ayaka smiled. As she noticed Maimi walked pass

her towards a leather chair for the clients, she was pissed off.

Maimi checked the chair excitedly and hopped onto it. She clapped her

hands eagerly. Ayaka rolled her eyes. She tossed her ponytail and cleared

her throat. Maimi looked up.



“That chair is for the client,” she told her with a cold expression. Tezuka took

a side-glance at Maimi while checking the files. Maimi laughed and played

with Tezuka’s pen, “Then, where’s my chair?”

Ayaka stood up straight. She hated to say that the chair next to her was

Maimi’s. She sighed and extended her hand over the chair next to her. Maimiclapped her hands again and got up. She sat on the chair with a big smile.

Tezuka shook his head slightly. Maimi looked up at Ayaka and asked, “Where

would you sit, Aya-chan?”

Aya-chan? Ayaka was shocked with that name. She tossed her ponytail again

and turned away. “I stand.”

“Oh? Pity you. You should sit. Why are you standing?” Maimi asked

innocently. Her big eyes shone at Ayaka. Tezuka closed the files and stood

up, “She my PA. Of course she stands.”

Maimi nodded. Just then, the door was opened and six clients from Thailand

came in. Tezuka and Maimi got up and waited for them to settle at each

chair. Maimi was eager and nervous. Everyone bowed to each other and be

seated later.

Tezuka began the meeting. The conversation was very serious and the

atmosphere was a bit tense. Maimi seemed bored likewise while Ayaka was

paying attention like she should to because Tezuka would ask her a favour at

any time. The Thai clients decided to invest into the company but they asked

what would interest them. That topic became the main talk for about an

hour. They used English so nothing would interest Maimi to join them.

She yawned. Everyone shot a glance at her. She widened her eyes. Tezuka

glared and muttered at her to shut up and stay still. Ayaka rolled her eyes.

Maimi covered her mouth and giggled. The leader of the clients, Mr. Joven

asked, “May I know, who is that cute lady?”

Maimi smiled. Tezuka breathed in. Ayaka was jealous.

“She’s my wife, Maimi,” Tezuka replied. He looked at Maimi who was noddinglike a fool. “We just got married a month ago,” he added. Mr. Joven smirked,

“She’s so cute. How I wish I could marry her.”

Maimi gasped. Tezuka frowned. Mr. Joven laughed and he shook his hands,

“No! No! Just kiddin’!”



Both of them breathed out. Maimi was surprised too at how she could

understand that part since she did not know English. Tezuka leaned forward

at her and whispered, “They’re going to invest into our company so don’t do

something stupid in front of them. Understand?”

“Really?!!!!!” Maimi’s voice shook the room. It echoed. Tezuka closed hiseyes, sighing. Ayaka gawped at her from behind. The clients were curious.

Maimi faced Mr. Joven and smiled, “Please! Please!”

The clients felt weird. What with the sudden ‘Please’? Tezuka secretly bite

his bottom lip, not wanting to know what was next since Maimi was

beginning to show her idiotic character in front of the important clients from

Thailand. Ayaka felt like punching her head.

“Money-,” Maimi began with hand gestures showing the shape of money. “-

company-,” she added, spreading her arms apart to show the company and,“-please?” The clients were silenced. Tezuka started to get a headache.

Ayaka turned away and pasted her forehead against the wall.

Mr. Joven burst out laughing. He even slammed his hands onto the desk. His

followers joined. Tezuka looked at them slowly while Ayaka spun around in

disbelief. Maimi widened her eyes in excitement. Mr. Joven could not stop

laughing. The atmosphere was different than before.

“Okay,” Mr. Joven stopped. He wiped his teary eyes, “I’ll invest. I can see

that I should do it after I see your wife. She’s damn funny!” Then he

continued to laugh again. Tezuka was amazed. He could not move. Maimi

joined the laughing event. Ayaka sighed.

When Mr. Joven and his followers were sent to lobby, Tezuka sighed a relief.

Ayaka did the same. Maimi saved the meeting in just a few seconds. She was

incredibly an angel. Tezuka was about to think like that but the angel part

was not suitable for that old miss.

Tezuka sat on a couch in his office room. He leaned back against the couch

and closed his eyes. He was so tired. That Thai clients were difficult to

approach and consult them to invest. He was glad everything was over.

Thanks to that old miss.



“Nezumi-chan!” that high-pitched voice came to his ears as that old miss

came into his room. Tezuka grunted, “Don’t you have elsewhere to go?!”

Maimi stopped and pouted. Tezuka felt guilty right after that pouting. He

sighed. Maimi sat on the coffee table in front of Tezuka. He was shocked. He

immediately turned away. Maimi looked at his face.

“Give me your glasses,” she demanded. Tezuka shook his head coldly. Maimi

stamped her feet on the floor and hugged him. Tezuka gasped. At that

precise moment too, Ayaka came into the room to discuss about the

investment just now but as soon as she saw Maimi was hugging her boss, her

files in her hands fell down. Maimi and Tezuka looked at her.

“Uh-uh- sorry to disturb you,” she said and quickly picked up her files. Maimi

came to help her, “It’s okay, Aya-chan. Let me help you.”

Ayaka was hurt inside. How come Maimi was so naive and innocent all this

time? Can’t she see that Ayaka was hurting that she did not like Maimi?

Tezuka got up and adjusted his glasses, “Put that files on my desk. You,” he

said, pointing at Maimi. “-come with me.”

Maimi cheered, “Roger that!”

Ayaka got up after collecting those files and bowed in front of the couple and

sighed. She was about to cry when she saw both of them walked towards the

lift zone.

“I want cheesecake,” Maimi asked Tezuka, her eyes dancing. Tezuka was

driving towards Grandma Megu’s. He decided to take the lunch time to see

his family as he was invited before. He did that in the afternoon so that he

could do his other schedules in the evening.

“No,” he responded. Maimi knew it. She pouted, “I want cheesecake! Please!

I’m hungry!”

“We’re going to eat at granny’s house,” he cut in. “No snacks before lunch.”

“But I’m hungry! Please! Just one slice, please!”

“No, dummy,” Tezuka said. “Idiot old miss,” he added. Maimi hit the

dashboard hard. She kept whining for the cheesecake. Of course Tezuka did

not like that. When the traffic light turned red, Tezuka took the advantage to



brake his car hard. Maimi accidentally hit her forehead on the dashboard

with a thud. “Ouch!” she screamed out, holding her forehead. Tezuka turned

away to his right and he could not help himself from laughing. He did not

laugh since he was in junior high but that scene insisted him to laugh but he

held it by looking at the other way. He pasted his lips, holding from laughing

even for a single giggle.

Maimi had finally settled down. She rubbed her forehead for hundred times.

She looked like she was about to cry. Tezuka looked at her and sighed. There

she goes again.

The light turned green. Tezuka drove his car straight. After a few minutes

later, he stopped by at a cake shop. Maimi curved a smile. Tezuka noticed

her teary eyes. He was glad she did not burst out crying.

Tezuka took out his wallet and lent her some money. “Make it quick.”

Maimi thanked him and got out from the car. Tezuka watched her walking

into the cake shop. He sighed. Suddenly, his cellphone rang. He picked it up.

“Hello, boss. It’s me, Ayaka,” a mature female voice called. Tezuka cleared

his throat, “What is it?”

“Where did you go? You didn’t even tell me where you heading? Again,” she

said. Her voice was in a mad tone. Tezuka took off his glasses and frowned

when he looked in front. It was blurry.

“I’m going to see my family. I’ll be back in the evening,” he said. He was

wiping his glasses using his coat. He kept looking at the front door of the

cake shop. “Don’t bother me,” he told her and hung up.

After a few minutes later, Maimi was seen came out of the cake shop with a

box. She was so excited. She got into the passenger seat and cheered, “I

bought five!”

“You said you’re buy a slice,” Tezuka scolded her. Maimi smiled, “These are

for Grandma Megu, Mrs. Fujimoto, Ayase, Momoko and me!”Tezuka rolled his

eyes and put back on his glasses.

Andrew smiled as Grandma Megu praised his present to her that came all the

way here from France. He dropped by the house to greet the family since

they were very close to him during his childhood time.



He brought back some souvenirs from France to give them. His own family

was still living in Vancouver. Mrs. Fujimoto was so excited to see him.

Grandpa To and Mr. Fujimoto were glad. Ayase was not there since it was

still in school hour.

“You are well grown up,” Grandma Megu said. Andrew nodded. “At first Idon’t believe Ayase says that you are here.”

“Maybe Tezuka told her,” Andrew said. He was as good-looking as Tezuka

did. They had grew up together but until their college time only. So it was

about 5 years they did not contact each other.

“So, what brings you here?” Grandpa To asked. Andrew looked up at him,

“After I knew about Tezuka’s profession here, I decided to invest. Or,

probably join him.”

“That’s great,” Mr. Fujimoto responded. The others nodded. Andrew sighed,

“Tezuka has a pretty wife. He’s lucky.”

Everyone was a bit surprised at his words. Andrew bowed down, “Sorry about

that.”

“Haha! It’s fine. Maimi is pretty. How about you, Andrew? Anything about

your wedding?” Grandma Megu asked. Mrs. Fujimoto hit her mother’s elbow

slightly. Grandma Megu glared at her.

Andrew giggled. “No. Not yet.”

Suddenly, the main door in the living room where they were sitting was

opened by the maids. Tezuka and Maimi were seen coming in. Everyone

smiled. The couple froze. Tezuka became moody right when he spotted

Andrew who was sitting on the couch. They shot glances at each other.

Grandma Megu invited them to join the conversation.

“Granny, I bring you cheesecake!” Maimi said out loud, showing off the cute

pinkish box. The others laughed.

Finally, everyone gathered for lunch at a dining room. The meals were very

high-class. It was western. Maimi sat beside Tezuka, facing Andrew. Tezuka



did not even look up at his old friend instead he kept eating his lunch madly.

Maimi ate hers without noticing anything. The others knew about that

argument. They tended to stay quiet.

Maimi took a sliced meat with her fork and brought it towards her mouth but

unfortunately it fell down onto her lap. “Oh, no!” she said. Everyone dartedtheir eyes at her. Momoko the maid came at her to help.

“I’m sorry, Momo-chan!” she told her. Momoko shook her head and tried to

clean that spot. Tezuka sighed. Andrew laughed. The awkward atmosphere

turned to be a bit cheery as soon Andrew started the laugh and the others

followed.

Maimi smiled childishly and made a peace sign. Tezuka grunted and secretly

pinched her waist. She jumped.

“Nezumi-chan! You naughty boy!” Maimi screamed. Andrew frowned.

Grandma Megu exchanged looks with Mrs. Fujimoto.

“Tezuka pinches my waist!” Maimi blurted out and giggled. Everyone

laughed but Andrew just sniggered silently. Tezuka realized Andrew was

jealous when Maimi said that. He had discovered the way to make Andrew

stay away from Maimi.

When everything went back to normal, Grandpa To began, “Tezuka-kun, are

you going to sleep here?”

Tezuka shook his head, “No. I have works to do this evening.” Maimi turned

to her left to look at her husband. “Maybe next time,” he added. Maimi was

disappointed. She looked down, “I want to sleep here.”

Andrew looked up at her pouting. He liked that. Tezuka got up and bowed

down. He grabbed Maimi’s arm and dragged her outside of the room.

Everyone was shocked. Andrew sighed.

“Let go of me!” Maimi shouted and pulled back her arm. Tezuka frowned at

her. That was the first time she did not want to follow him. He faced her,

“What’s wrong with you?!”

Maimi started to cry. “I should ask that too!”

Tezuka back-combed his hair and put his hands on his hips. “Okay, what do

you want? You wanna sleep here? Do you want to eat here? Okay, fine, go!”



Maimi sobbed. “I want you to join me,” she said. She wiped her tears. “You

should listen to me more. I’m older than you, okay!”

Tezuka held his head. He was so mad at that time. He realized it was his

fault that he was angry with Andrew but he at the same time, Maimi was

dragged into the problem. Just then, Andrew came out.

“Is everything okay?” he asked, walking towards them.

Tezuka became angrier as soon as Andrew’s face popped out. He grabbed

Maimi’s hand and hugged her. Maimi was shocked. Andrew stopped.

Grandma Megu and the others came after to see what was going on.

“Nezumi?” Maimi’s voice muffled in her husband’s shoulder. Tezuka pulled

her back to face her and planted a kiss on her lips. Andrew’s heart hurt. The

others could not tell what is going on but Grandpa To knew something

happened between them.

When Tezuka pulled himself back, he told Maimi to get into the car. Andrew

noticed that Tezuka was going to make him jealous. He admitted that he was

jealous. And at the same time, he told himself that he liked Maimi. Even

though they had just met twice.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Maimi played with her skirt. She took a sneak peek at Tezuka who was

driving like crazy. She pasted her lips, wondering what was that kiss for? But



she was happy that Tezuka had finally kissed her again. When she

remembered that kiss, she giggled alone.

Tezuka glared at her. Maimi cupped her mouth with both hands and her

smiling eyes told him that she liked that kiss. And she wanted more. “Dream

it, old miss,” he said finally.

Maimi pouted. She pretended to toss the air as if she was tossing her hair

but the truth was her hair was tied into many ponytails. “But you kissed me!”

she bluffed. “You know how to consult me.”

Tezuka rolled his eyes. He sighed. Maimi looked at him and back in front,

“Where are we going?”

Tezuka did not respond. Maimi slammed her both hands on her laps. They

arrived at their office later. Maimi walked along with her husband proudly

like usual. Ayaka came to see her boss so she and Tezuka got into his office

room. Maimi was alone again. She did not have anything to do.

“Sir, liquor,” Andrew ordered the bartender at a pub. He was frustrated at

what had happened just now. He wanted to make up with Tezuka so that

they could be friends like they used too but when Maimi came into the

relationship, Andrew could not erase her pretty smile and cute face. He had

met her twice but he started to like her. And Tezuka knew about that. That

kiss was done on purpose.

A small glass of liquor was placed in front of him. He thanked the bartender

and drank it in one shot. He slammed the glass on the counter bar and

sighed while looking down. He felt guilty all of a sudden. He left Tezuka for

France and never ever contacted him after that. No wonder Tezuka was mad

at him.

“But we can still be friends, right?” he told himself. He took out a cigarette

out of his pocket and reached for the public lighter on the counter bar. He

lighted it and began to suck that cigarette. He became a smoker two yearsago. But he was not the heavy one. He would do that when things came out

wrong.



Maimi was ready in her lingerie. She was waiting for Tezuka who was

cleaning in his room. She still wanted to continue to be closed towards her

husband but she was unsure about this time. She failed for countless times.

It was already night. They had dinner before and it was time to get ready for

bed. But usually Tezuka would stay all night to finish his works in his study.

Tezuka came out of the room and went to the fridge to fetch some snacks.

He spotted a cheesecake, the one that Maimi bought that day. He licked his

lips. He liked cheesecake too but he was too egoist about wanting her to buy

some for him.

“Nezumi-chan!” Maimi’s voice sounded. Tezuka was shocked and he

accidentally hit his head in the fridge. He closed the door and rubbed his

head. “Can’t you just say it quietly, old dummy miss?!”

Maimi backed up. She smiled sweetly. Tezuka blushed and quickly turnedaway, pretending to look for a cup something like that. Maimi hugged him

from behind, “Gotcha!!!”

Tezuka’s heart beat faster. He would melt if a female hugged his back. He

pushed her. Maimi fell down hard.

“Idiot!” he said. Maimi rubbed her back, “Oh, come on, Nezumi-chan! Let’s

sleep together!”

Tezuka kicked her left shoulder and went to the living room. Maimi pouted.

She got up and hugged him again. Tezuka shivered. He pushed her back.Maimi shouted. Tezuka ignored her and sat on the couch. He opened his

laptop and began to start his work.

Maimi joined him by sitting next to him. Tezuka grunted but he let her be as

long as she did not hug him again. “What are you doing?” Maimi asked,

leaning against his arm. He kept pushing her head away while his left hand

handled his work.

When the two of them became exhausted, Maimi stayed quiet, giving up.

Tezuka can finally do his work peacefully. Suddenly, “I want to have fivechildren.” It was Maimi. She smiled at the ceiling. Truly an idiot!

Tezuka stopped from typing. He did not look at her. “Three girls, two boys,”

Maimi added. “It would be a great feeling to get them to school. What am I

thinking?” She put her both hands on her cheeks and giggled. Tezuka took a

sneak at her. She looked nice talking about that, smiling all by herself.



There was a sudden silence later on. Maimi’s head fell onto Tezuka’s laps.

She was snoozing. Tezuka sighed. He tried to take her head up back but

when he remembered her hardships today, he gave up. He tended to stop

doing his work for a while.

Seeing that old miss’s ponytails, Tezuka slowly reached her hair. He ran hishand on her hair. He was thinking about Maimi’s dream. Five children? Could

they possibly have five children? Could Maimi handle that? What about their

works? Who’s gonna take care of the children? Tezuka sighed.

That kiss just now was done on purpose to make Andrew realized that they

were a married couple. But suddenly, he felt like he should do it like he was

in love with Maimi. He did not feel like it. But he was falling for her slowly.

Even though Maimi had tried many things to get near him, but he refused to

let her be. It was because he was afraid to have babies. He did not like kids.

He was wondering how to handle that in the future. Maimi insisted to havebabies. It had been a month or so but they never had a night together. He

felt guilty towards Maimi. The question was, for how long they were going to

do that?

Maimi stretched her arms. Tezuka froze. He got up and let her head bammed

onto the couch. “Nezumi~” she called. Tezuka grabbed his laptop and went

into his room. Serve her right!

The next day came. As usual, the company ran for 24 hours. That day was

ignited with cherish and clapping as soon as Andrew came into the company.

He was admired by all female workers there. They were wondering who he

was.

He was perfect like Tezuka used to be. But he was a bit unique. He wore a

smart grey suit and matching shoes. He was led by a worker towards

Tezuka’s office. Everyone stood up and bowed.

Tezuka stood up as Andrew came in. He was angry with him likewise and it

will never fade away. He thought. Maimi was in her office, correcting the

calculations. Ayaka was shocked too. She did not know who he was but he

was good-looking too. She closed the door and joined them.

“Ayaka, Andrew. Andrew, Ayaka,” Tezuka introduced. Ayaka and Andrew

bowed to each other.



“What’re you doing here?” Tezuka asked coldly. He leaned against his desk.

Andrew faced him and smiled, “I have told you that I’m going to invest into

your company.”

Tezuka sighed. “For what? You’re not my client,” he said. Andrew was taken

aback at his words. He sucked his hands into his pockets, “I know but I’mlike....a volunteer.”

“Don’t feel pity on me. I don’t ask for your help. I can do it myself. This is my

company,” Tezuka shot him back. Andrew breathed in, feeling a bit nervous.

Ayaka was trying to understand the situation.

“I just wanna make friends with you. Let’s make up, shall we?” Andrew told

him. Tezuka shot him a flint look. “No,” he answered shortly. Andrew sighed.

He did not know what to do to make friends with his childhood pal.

Ayaka waited for any order from Tezuka. She noticed by his angry looks and

knew it was a vile situation. She was wondering who was Andrew?

“Sorry,” Andrew admonished her. “I’m Tezuka’s childhood friend. We used to

be neighbours once.”

“Oh.....,” Ayaka responded. “What happen?”

Both Tezuka and Andrew tilted a bit at her question. Andrew smiled, “We

have some misunderstandings going on and-“

Tezuka cleared his throat. Andrew and Ayaka looked at him. Tezuka got up

and stopped beside his old friend and whispered, “Dream it.” And he left.

Andrew was hurt to hear that. Ayaka could see their relationship was not

going to stick back.

“Hey, Tezuka!” he called. Tezuka stopped his steps at the door way. “It’s a

good thing I’m going to invest into your company and I’m still gonna do it no

matter what. But about the two of us, I know you’re gonna need time to think

about it. Okay, I’ll let you. But for the mean time, I’m going to put business

first. So please allow me to invest. You won’t regret,” he finished.

Tezuka did not respond. He continued his steps towards the rest room.

Andrew let out a breath. Ayaka was nervous just now. She had been

clutching her files tightly.



Andrew read the advertisement on the board in the lobby when he reached

the ground floor. He was still exasperated after he scolded Tezuka for being

too nuisance. He was going to take fresh air. While he was reading and

browsing the lobby, the other girls there were whispering about how

handsome he was. He smiled and sniggered. That grey suit fit him well and

he looked like a foreigner.

“Andrew-kun?” Maimi called. Andrew turned around to see that 27 years old

lady came towards him. Her three inches high heels made her walk looked

uncomfortable and a bit awkward but her smiling face covered that. “Hey,

you’re here!”

Andrew opened his arms and smiled, “I’m here.” Maimi stifled a laugh,

“What’re you up to here?”

“I met Tezuka just now. About the investment actually,” he replied. Maiminodded. She looked down at her high heels. She wagged her leg, “It hurts

wearing this.”

“I can see that,” Andrew told her. Maimi laughed and pasted her palms

together, “So, where’re you heading?”

Andrew looked around. He mocked an I-don’t-know face. “ No idea. I was just

wandering around to know about this place better.”

“That’s great! And seeing you here, let me show you something,” Maimi said.

Her dancing and joyful eyes seemed like she was really inviting. Andrewshrugged and followed her into a cafeteria.

She stopped at a vending machine. There were all kinds of snacks and you

would just need to insert coins to get the snacks. Maimi leaned forward to

see the snacks. She swallowed as she spotted a pack of cheese chips. “I’ll be

dead if Tezuka find out about this.”

Andrew frowned. Maimi got up, “He dislikes seeing me eating these kinds of

snacks. He prefers healthy snacks like fruits and desserts. I’ve been craving

to eat this.”

A small laugh came out of Andrew’s mouth. He knew Tezuka very well and

he never changed.

“Um...,” Maimi began. “May I borrow some coins? I don’t have any since

Tezuka keeps my money.”



Andrew nodded, “Sure.” He took out his wallet and gave her some coins.

Maimi jumped happily when she received that coins and quickly bought the

snack. She wagged her hands side to side when the snack reached into her

hand. Andrew clapped his hands, “You broke the rules.”

“Don’t tell Tezuka,” Miami said. “Please?”

“Of course I won’t. It’s a snag,” Andrew told her. He was glad his day was

brightened by that lady.

Both of them sat in the cafeteria. Maimi was eating her snack eagerly. It was

a small pack but the cheese chips were made in cute and tiny shapes so the

snack seemed larger. Andrew ordered for a hot chocolate. He had been

watching that lady eating the snack for the past few minutes and it was very

entertaining.

“You want some?” Maimi asked him, handing him the pack. Andrew shook

his head and smiled, “No thanks.”

Maimi smiled back and continued to eat. “You know what,” she said,

chewing. “Sorry for making you look like a dork beside me. Yeah, you know,

I’m wearing a suit eating this kind of snack.”

“It’s fine. I’m getting used to it,” Andrew answered. Maimi smirked. She

settled her position in her seat so that she could face him. “ May I ask you?

About Tezuka?”

Andrew nodded. Maimi swallowed. “Why he is always moody? I mean, he

never smiles nor laughs. And he’s so rough?”

“That’s him. But he becomes like that when he’s in junior high. He starts to

get involve into business study since then and he changes into a serious

person. Things turn bad when I leave him for France. Actually, we decided to

run this company together but I found that I won’t make it so I flied to

France. Since then, he never talks to me. Until now,” Andrew explained.

Maimi nodded, “So that’s all about.”

“Don’t take it seriously. I can handle this,” he said. Maimi made a thumb-up

and winked. Andrew giggled.



CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“Are you okay, father?” Mrs. Fujimoto asked her that old man who was lying

in his bed. He snorted out, inhaling the air. He could not breathe easily. It

was Grandpa To. He fell down from a shock. The scene yesterday had

brought a big impact to him. Tezuka was a bit harsh with his attitude towardsAndrew.

Grandpa To had a serious illness. He had reached the age above 80 and no

wonder even a snag emerged, he fell down. Grandma Megu cried so hard

beside him. She was holding his hand tightly. Mr. Fujimoto was walking back

and forth after he had called a doctor to come.

“Oh, my,” Mrs. Fujimoto said, worrying. She was going to call Tezuka but she

was worried about yesterday. Probably her son was still mad. And she did

not want to cause any trouble. Ayase came into the room, sobbing.

“Mom, let’s call brother,” she said. Mrs. Fujimoto shook her head, “I can’t do

that. He must be busy.”

“Grandpa is sick! Just call him, mom!” Ayase shouted.



“Ayase, slow down,” Mr. Fujimoto retorted. He shot a glance at his wife.

“Let’s call him.”

Mrs. Fujimoto sighed. She nodded and dialled for her son’s number. Tezuka

picked that call.

“Hello? Tezuka? Mom’s here,” she said with a crack voice. “Mom, what’s

going on?” he asked.

“Grandpa-gra-grand-“

“What? What’s wrong with grandpa?”

“He fell sick. He can’t breathe well,” Mrs. Fujimoto told him.

“What?! Send him to the hospital!”

“A doctor is on his way here-“

“Just send him to the hospital! I’m on my way!”

He hung up. Mrs. Fujimoto was shocked. She put down the phone. “He told

me to send father to the hospital right away.”

Tezuka ran towards a room numbered 610 as soon as he was told by the

counter girl at the hospital. He needed a 40 minutes ride to reach for the

hospital. Maimi followed him with those high heels and she did slip once on

the slippery floor.

Both of them arrived at the room and Tezuka barged in. All of his family

members were shocked. Mrs. Fujimoto was glad her son was there. Maimi

neared them. As she saw Grandpa To’s condition, she reached for Mrs.

Fujimoto and coaxed her.

Grandpa To was in a bad vile. He was sleeping using the breathing aid and

his hands were fulled with injections. Tezuka could not believe his eyes. He

went towards that old man and took his hand.

“He’s still shock from what you say to Andrew yesterday,” Mr. Fujimoto said.Obviously he was a bit angry with his son’s attitude towards Andrew and it

sent an impact at Grandpa To. Tezuka looked at his grandfather with a

timorous feeling. He was afraid. Maimi sighed.

After a few minutes, Tezuka’s family members decided to take a break and

went out of the room. Maimi did not follow them. She wanted to accompany



her husband. Tezuka did not even wink as he watched Grandpa To breathing.

Maimi felt bad for him.

It was already dark. Both of them were so tired but seeing Grandpa To,

Tezuka did not let go off his hand. He loved that old man. He promised to

grant his wish about having a grandchild before he died. But Grandpa To hadfell sick too early. And it was all because Tezuka’s attitude yesterday. He

regretted it.

“It’s all my fault,” he said, breaking the silence. Maimi looked up to see him,

“Nezumi?”

Tezuka got up and faced the windows. He put his hands on his hips, sighing

hard. Maimi came towards him. “Nezumi?” she asked. Tezuka sighed again

and turned at her. Maimi was surprised to see his eyes were flooded with

tears. He cries?

Tezuka looked down, holding the tears. Maimi pulled him and hugged him.

Finally, he tended to burst out crying. Maimi rubbed his back softly, “It’s

okay. It’s okay. Grandpa’s going to be fine.”

Tezuka sobbed harder in her hug. He hugged her back tightly, forming new

tears again and again. Maimi smiled, “Go on. Cry out loud. You’re gonna be

fine. I’m right here.”

They ended up sleeping on the couch in front of the bed where Grandpa To

was lying. Tezuka was sleeping on Maimi’s chest. Maimi fell asleep too. Herhands were around Tezuka’s head while his hands were put around her

waist. They slept soundly.

Grandma Megu and Mrs. Fujimoto smiled at each other when they saw both

of them. So, they decided to leave them in that room while the others rent a

special room for guests to stay for the night.

The sun rose, signing that the next day had came. The sunlight shone

through the windows and into the room. The room was lightened. Grandpa



To opened his tired eyes. He could finally move his fingers and body. He

looked around. There’s no one. He tried to get up to call for a nurse but when

he noticed Tezuka and Maimi were sleeping hand in hand on the couch, he

was relief all of the sudden. They seemed very intimate.

Suddenly, Tezuka moved slightly. Maimi did the same. grandpa To quicklylied down back. He pretended to sleep. Tezuka looked up to see Maimi’s face

and he realized he was lying on her chest. He pushed her away and stood

up.

“What’re you doing?!” he shouted. Maimi who was still in her sleeping mood

smiled. She rubbed her eyes, “What?”

Tezuka sighed. He grabbed his glasses on the coffee table and put it on. His

hair was a mess so he went to the bathroom. Maimi got up and stretched her

arms. She did some morning exercises and tilted her neck. She glanced atGrandpa To and neared him.

“I hope you’re okay,” she said softly, running a hand on the old man’s arm.

Suddenly, Grandpa To grabbed her hand abruptly. Maimi shrieked.

“Sshhh!!!” Grandpa To muttered with his index finger in front of his mouth.

Maimi did the same, frowning.

Tezuka got out of the bathroom, wiping his face with his handkerchief. Heput back his glasses on. He noticed Maimi was looking at Grandpa To in

sadness. Tezuka went towards her.

“What is it?” he asked in nervousness. Maimi cupped her face with her hands

and pretended to sob. “Grandpa.....grandpa....,” she muttered in her hands.

Tezuka began to worry. He faced his grandfather to see that old man was

still in comma.

“What am I gonna do?” Tezuka said. He gasped. Maimi opened her hands

slightly to take a snoop at him. In the mean time, she was smirking. Tezukashook Grandpa To’s body and shouted, “Grandpa! Grandpa!”

Maimi let out a yelp made Tezuka glanced at her, wrinkling his eyebrows. A

sound coming out from Grandpa To shocked Tezuka too and he glanced back

at that old man. Grandpa To was smiling. Maimi giggled.



“What’s going on?” Tezuka asked in disbelief. He was beginning to be mad.

Maimi clapped her hands, “Grandpa is okay. We’re playing jokes on you!”

Grandpa To sniggered. Tezuka sighed. He gawped at his wife and walked

pass her towards the door. The door was slammed hard. Maimi was

disappointed. Grandpa To sighed, “It’s okay, dear.”

Maimi ran outside to after her husband. Tezuka was sitting on a chair in an

aisle, looking down on the floor while putting his hands on his head. Maimi

came to sit beside him. “Nezumi-chan?”

“Don’t talk to me,” he said. Maimi pasted her lips together. She leaned

forward, “I’m sorry. We didn’t know you’re mad. Grandpa is fine actually.

Don’t take it seriously.”

Tezuka faced her abruptly. His eyes were glowering with madness. Maimi

gulped. “You know what?” he said. “I don’t like you. So stay away from me!”

he added. Maimi was taken aback. She held his shoulders but he pushed her

back.

“I know you’re mad, but please don’t hate me. We’re playing games with

you, that’s it,” she consoled. Tezuka shot an I-hate-you look. Maimi knew it

was a sign that he meant it. But she could not let him hate her. They were a

newly-wed. They needed to be together. Forever.

“Nezumi? Please don’t be like this,” she said.

“What’s going on?” Mrs. Fujimoto asked as she came towards them. Maimi

hesitated while Tezuka got up and bowed in front of his mother. Mrs.

Fujimoto was trying to figure what since she had heard their conversation

from far. “May I know?”

Maimi played with her fingers, unsure about what to say. Tezuka cleared his

throat, “Nothing. I’m heading home.”

He walked away. Maimi was hovering. She bowed and ran after him. Mrs.

Fujimoto watched them. She sighed.

Tezuka was lying on the couch at his house right after he got home that

morning. He had called Ayaka to cancel every appointment that day since he

was clueless and was not in the mood to work. Maimi was had taken her bath

and she was in her daily clothes, a short dress and shorts.



Tezuka was still in his suit. He placed his right hand against his forehead and

he was wandering his eyes at the ceiling. Maimi did not know what to do.

They did not have breakfast yet and the clock showed that it was almost ten.

Maimi was hungry but she was a jerk in cooking. If she asked Tezuka, she

would be sure been shot by a gun.

Maimi pouted. She rubbed her stomach and made herself to the fridge. She

opened it and browsed for something to eat. She found the cheesecake she

bought yesterday. Taking it out eagerly, she quickly reached for a fork and

ate it vigorously.

Tezuka was curious. He took a sneak at her. That old miss was minding her

lame breakfast. He rolled his eyes. Maimi licked her fork at the moment she

finished her cheesecake. “Yummy!” she shouted.

As Tezuka was getting up all of a sudden, Maimi covered her mouth andthrew the plate and the fork into the sink. She backed out when that scary

guy neared the fridge. He opened it and stopped for a while. Maimi was

trying to escape. She took out a leg and made the first step. She clenched

her teeth with every step she take.

“Hey,” Tezuka sounded. Maimi’s heart began to shatter. She gulped, holding

her breath before she turned around and face him. She curved a tentative

smile, “Yes, Nezumi?”

Tezuka glared at her. He took out a pack of dried seaweed and threw it onto

the counter. “Cook that.”

Maimi swallowed. “Huh?”

Tezuka slammed the fridge door shut and shot her a killer look before he

made his way towards his room. Maimi’s heart melted. She held her chest

and smiled. Even though Tezuka was angry at her, but that killer look just

now somehow made her heart beat even faster. It was seductive. Very

seductive.

Maimi agreed to follow her beloved, scary and bad-tempered husband’sorder. She was clueless about how to cook it but she decided to follow the

instruction. She washed the seaweed, put it into a pot and waited for it to

boil. She looked at the door of Tezuka’s room. Probably he was taking his

bath.



Maimi smirked. She was dreaming about having a bath together with her

husband. She wagged her eyebrows at the point that his revealed abdominal

muscles. She swallowed hard.

“Oh, my! I’m a pervert!” she screamed. The door was opened. Maimi

jumped. She slowly took a look at the door way. There came Tezuka in a cut-off shirt that revealed his sculpted abs.

Oh, my.....kill me!

“What?” he said. Maimi shook her head and hopped in front of the boiling

water in the pot. She sprinkled some salt and sugar along with several

spoons of soy sauce. She did not know if it was right but despite that her

good-looking and perfect-body husband was looking at her from behind, she

trembled a bit.

She tasted the soup. She frowned. “Uh.....I can taste the ocean.”

Tezuka ignored her and made his way into his study. Maimi stopped. She put

more soy sauce and tasted it. Again, it was not right.

“Nezumi-chan! Come here, please. Can you help me with this soup? It

doesn’t come out well,” she called. Tezuka did not respond. Maimi skipped

her legs on the floor, calling for Tezuka.

Nothing. She sighed and turned off the stove. She felt like an idiot doing that.

Suddenly, she gasped. “Rice! I forgot to cook the rice! Oh, no!”

Tezuka who was using his laptop in his study sighed. He knew that would

happen.

After an hour and a half went by, finally the rice was done and Maimi served

the breakfast but it was like a brunch. Tezuka was seated. He looked at the

seaweed soup plainly. Maimi was curious and nervous.



She fed herself with rice and watches Tezuka took up his chopsticks and ate

his rice. Then, he reached for a spoon and scooped the soup. He took sip at it

and formed a moody face. Maimi nodded down. She knew it.

Tezuka put down his chopsticks. “Hey! Is this what you call seaweed soup?

It’s a squib!”

Maimi was shivering with fear. “Uh...uh...I called you to look at it but you

won’t.”

“It’s not my fault! You’re my wife and you’re supposed to cook. You should

know how to cook!” Tezuka retorted.

Maimi rubbed her hands. “I know but I don’t know how to cook. Sorry,” she

said and pasted her both palms. “Don’t be mad.” She pouted.

“Then, how are we going to eat?” Tezuka asked, eyes were locked at Maimi.His hands were wrapped at his chest. Maimi was not listening to him but her

eyes stuck at his abs. She wished she could touch that.

“Hey, old miss! Dummy old miss!”

Maimi was shocked. “What?! I’ve told you not to talk to me like that! It’s

rude!”

“It’s rude too if you don’t cook for me,” Tezuka shot. Maimi froze. She

grunted and got up. She ran at him and grabbed his glasses.

She stuck her tounge out. “Come and get me!”

Tezuka hated that game. He stood up and aftered her around the house.

Maimi was enjoying it. She liked to play tag. Using the main thing, glasses,

Tezuka’s weaknesses, she was glad that game could be played naturally.

“Hey, cut it out! I hate this f***king game!” Tezuka shouted. Maimi was

startled with his words. She stopped. “That’s too over, Nezumi! That’s too

harsh!”

“Who cares?! I want this ****king game to be over and I want my ****king

glasses back!”

Maimi pouted. She went to the balcony and extended her hand with the

glasses in the air. “Say sorry to me or, this thing will be going....,”she said,

imitating a falling thing using her thumb. “-down,” she finished.



Tezuka hurried towards her and grabbed her body. Maimi stumbled a bit and

she immediately clutched his shirt. They fell in the door way with a thud and

Tezuka was on top of Maimi. Tezuka was so surprised to that old miss was

under him.

Maimi was startled but she grinned. She was embarrassed as Tezuka waslooking at her. She turned her head to her left and took a side-glance at him

who did not even move an inch. Actually, Tezuka was stuck in that situation.

In his mind, there was female under him. Under his control. And he felt weird

why hadn’t he move aside and grabbed that glasses back? Maimi was

showing him a cute face.

Come and get me....hehe. She whispered to herself.

Tezuka gulped. He neared her face but he refused to make another move.

He was nervous. Maimi was waiting for his next action. The glasses had

jumped two feet away from her grip just now so she got nothing to hold on.

Tezuka decided to kiss her. Yeah, she was in front of you so, why don’t you

make a move, right? He decreased his inches apart from her and their lips

were about to meet, but his cellphone rang.

They were shocked. Tezuka got up and picked up his cellphone. “Hello?”

Maimi stamped her feet on the floor. She was about to be kissed by him.

“Oh, man!”

“You’re coming?” Tezuka asked. It was Ayaka. She called him to tell that she

was on her way to meet Grandpa To. “I went there,” he answered.

“Oh....I was thinking to go there with you. Yeah, you know that I’m not that

close with your family,” Ayaka said.

Tezuka looked at Maimi. He realized that he was about to have a romantic

moment just now but Ayaka was asking him as a boss to escort her. Maimi

made a cute faces. Tezuka rolled his eyes. Should he stay, or should he go

out?
