Cedar Wind’s progeny have met and exceeded our expectations for calving ease, docility, structural correctness and growth both here and at Van Dyke Angus Ranch, where 100% of his first heifer crop conceived to first service A.I. We have progeny for sale at private treaty and will again consign several outstanding yearling bulls to the January, 2016 bull sale. High quality semen is available from Universal Semen Sales, Inc.

What a great time to be in the cattle business! Cow
prices continue to trend upward, with Angus leading the way.
Our Bull and Female sales, yet again, exceeded expectations.
I hope more of you will take advantage of this opportunity to
not only sell your best for high prices, but also showcase your
program to the many buyers.
At the American Angus Association Annual Convention
this past November, a wonderful trade show and educational
seminars were presented. Breeders from all across the country
visited and discussed their programs. I thoroughly enjoyed
meeting and learning from the many new friends I made. Plans
are already coming together to make this year’s convention
even better. I hope you will consider attending.
We had an exciting Annual Meeting in March. Our
guest speaker was Bryce Schumann, CEO of the American
Angus Association. He discussed the state of our association,
as well as the industry as a whole. We also welcomed two new
Louisiana Angus Association board members, Kurt LeBeouf
and Jessica Fontenot. We look forward to their involvement in
leading our Association into the future.
It has been an honor and pleasure serving as the
President of the Louisiana Angus Association. If I can be of any
assistance to you, please feel free to call me at (318) 623-8762.
Sincerely,
Lee RobbinsPresident, Louisiana Angus Association

Louisiana Angus Princesses
20
Hello, my name is Cheyenne Jones, your 2014 Louisiana Junior Angus Association Queen. I am currently finishing my freshman year at Redlands Community College. I have full intentions of attending Oklahoma State University to obtain my Bachelor Degree in Animal Science after receiving my Associate Degree. First, I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone within the Louisiana Junior Angus Association and the Louisiana Angus Association. I would also like to thank my lovely princess, Miss Olivia Shepherd (shine bright, you have a dazzling future). I am very blessed to be a part of this group of dedicated, passionate individuals. My advice to you is to enjoy the little things in life, because one day you will look back and realize that they were the big things. I will never forget what the LJAA has done for me, and it will leave a lasting memory of what hard work and passion truly is. This association has molded me into who I am today, and I thank God for allowing me to be a part of such an inspiring group.
It has been a very special honor for me to serve as the Louisiana Junior Angus Association Princess. I had so many memorable experiences and met so many wonderful people. I would like to say a huge “thank you” to all those who made it possible. I hope to have a part in this association for many more years.
Letters from your 2014 Royalty

The Louisiana Junior Angus Association board of directors approved sponsorship of a junior association on January 13, 1964. The Louisiana Junior Angus Association was organized on June 6, 1964, when the juniors were invited to attend and participate in the annual field day, which in 1964 was held at the Dr. A.V. Young Farm in Grand Cane, Louisiana.
The following officers were elected to serve the first year: Lee Walker, Lake Charles, president; Chris Loupe, Zwolle, 1st vice president; Carolyn Hunter, Dubach, 2nd vice president; Beverly Means, Gloster, secretary; Gerald L. Woods, treasurer; and Debbie Hays, Ruston, reporter. The advisor was Dr. L.H. Pease, Lafayette.
In 1965, the juniors held four field days, each in a different part of the state, so that new members could be recruited. As the association grew, one annual field day was held in co-sponsorship with the adult association, combining the field day with a junior heifer show.
In 1967, Jimmie Lee Fontenot, Vinton, and Diane Powell, Coushatta, were selected to represent Louisiana in the National Showmanship contest. The first Louisiana Angus Queen, Mary Myers, Jennings, was crowned in 1972 during field day. 1977 brought the first major Angus show to the deep South when the LJAA co-hosted the South Central Regional Heifer Show in Shreveport. Mark Wyble was elected to serve on the first National Junior Angus Board in 1980. In 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Paul St. Blanc, Charenton, were named “Junior Angus Advisors of the Year”. In 1983, Malcolm Landry was elected to serve on the NJAA Board of Directors.
In 1986, Caliste and Sandy Rougeau became Junior Advisors, and through their efforts the LJAA 25th year celebration at the 1989 Regional Preview Show in Shreveport was a huge success. In 1990, Cheramie Viator began her two-year term on the NJAA Board of Directors.
Harriet and Carroll Boudreaux took over as Junior Advisors in 1995. They were responsible for an excellent Regional Premier Show in 1998 and many national winners.
In 2000, Leslie and Brian Kennedy took over as Junior Advisors, and were responsible for the continual growth and success of the organization.
In 2001, Lana Myers was elected as the first of three consecutive NJAA Board of Directors from Louisiana. Jennifer Ourso served her term on the NJAA Board from 2003-05. Kristen Oaks followed her as a NJAA Director from 2005-07. Daniel McFarland was elected to serve on the board in 2012.
Eddie and Patti Hymel were selected as Junior Advisors in 2003 and chosen as 2012 Advisors of the Year; they continue to serve in that capacity. Patti was also the chairman for the 2011 Eastern Regional in West Monroe. Through their direction, the junior association has remained strong and an integral part of the Angus breed in Louisiana.

When David and Becky Billingsley traveled to Kansas City, Mo., from northwest Loui-siana, they were expecting to gain a lot from the first-ever Angus Means Business Na-tional Convention & Trade Show, but they never guessed they would be bringing home a 2015 Yamaha Viking VI. Thanks to a generous donation from Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A, the utility vehicle now makes its new home at Billingsley Angus Farm in Keithville, LA. David and Becky Billingsley have been raising Angus cattle in Louisiana for nearly 20 years. Photo by Carrie Heitman, Angus Media.

for your years of service to the Louisiana Angus Association!
For over 35 years our family has had the opportunity to know Louisiana’s Regional Director, Richard Dyar. His leadership and guidance helped us to succeed in all of life’s endeavors.
Although Louisiana did not have the size and clout of other states, Richard always encouraged us to work hard and believe that we could compete nationally in all
contests. We shared many great show day and contest victories but will always cherish the laughter, Louisiana cuisine, and cocktails shared at the after contest celebrations.
Throughout our 15 years of knowing Richard, he has never stopped teaching and guiding us as well as our children. From comforting to congratulating, Richard sees through to
everyone’s positive, unique qualities and connects to each junior. Always a happy, friendly face, we’ll never forget him saying, “Here comes trouble! Sweet on the
outside, full of fire and ambition on the inside,” every time he sees Stephanie. Thank you, Richard, for lessons and memories we will never forget!
I have known Richard for his entire term of service as regional field man for the State of Louisi-ana. My children had show careers during his early years of service, and I fondly remember
his kindness to them during those years. Also, I so appreciate the guidance and direction he provided to our association and our strength today is a testimony to his diligence and
encouragement. Thank you, Richard. You will be greatly missed!
Richard has been a trusted friend to my operation and myself for many years. We enjoyed talking cows, and he always kept me abreast of the latest in Angus news.
Richard Dyar, an energetic Angus enthusiast always dedicated to the betterment of the Angus industry! He is synonymous with “a job well done.”
