  • SCHOOL HOURS The school day begins at 7:50 A.M. and ends at 2:35 P. M. Students who walk to school should plan their arrival time for 7:15 A.M. Students will not be allowed to enter the building until 7:15 A.M. except for breakfast and Early Morning Book Club. They may go to their classroom when dismissed from the front hallway at 7:30 A.M. Bus schedules are posted at the front entrance for the convenience of checking bus stops, numbers and pickup times. Bus riders may go to their classrooms when they arrive at school.

ABSENCES A written excuse for all absences is required. The written excuse should include:

    1. dates of absence 2. reason for absence 3. parents signature

The absence excuse is presented to the classroom teacher who will keep it with other student records. Excuses are kept on file for the school year. Parents will be called about absenteeism that has not been explained. After five absences, the schools attendance officer will conduct a review. Reasonable make-up work is required of students who are absent. Arrangements for making up work are made with the classroom teacher. ABSENTEE CALL-IN PROGRAM A telephone check for all children reported absent each morning will be made from the school office. This telephone check is required by state law to help insure the safety of children on their way to school. Parents are asked to call the absentee call-in number, 571-434-4541, by 8:15 A.M. each day that a child is absent. This line is available 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. A school secretary will then call the parents of all children whose absence has not been accounted for.

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES No teacher is authorized to keep any student after school hours unless parents have been notified beforehand. Thus, students are required to have permission slips from a parent when engaged in post-school activities.

ATTENDANCE Whenever a student is absent from school, documentation is required to verify the reason for the absence. Parents are required to notify the school as to the reason for the absence. This may be done through the schools Absentee Phone-in line. Any absence not confirmed by the parent will be considered unexcused. If the parent has not called the school to verify the absence, the school will make a reasonable effort to call the parent to verify the days absence. Upon the students return to school, a written explanation from a parent or guardian is required for each absence. The note should include: date(s) of the absence, reason for the absence, and signature of the parent/guardian. Students are excused for personal illness, a death in the family, medical or dental appointments, court appearances, religious holidays, illness in the immediate family, or emergencies that require the student to be absent. If a student is absent for more than 10 days or 10% of the total number of days membership, whichever is determined appropriate by the principal, the school will send a letter to the parents requiring a physicians note for all further absences. At the principals discretion, contact may be made sooner or waived due to extenuating circumstances. At the point at which a student accumulates 5 unexcused absences, a referral will be made to the Attendance Officer.

  • AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC Parents dropping their children off in the mornings are asked to drive slowly. Parents dropping off or picking up their children must do so at the designated areas (PK-1st front of the building and 2nd-5th side parking lot by the gymnasium). If needed, parent parking is also available on the curb of the side parking lot or on the street. Children should exit the car onto the sidewalk. Please do not place your child(ren) or someone elses in jeopardy because you are impatient with the driving habits of others. Cars are not to be parked in the bus lane at any time. (Only during dismissal do cars picking up PK 1st students follow the buses to the front of the school). BICYCLE/SCOOTER SAFETY Students may ride bicycles with parental consent, although they may not ride their bikes or scooters on school property. A bike rack is available and bikes left in the rack should be locked. We are not responsible for the safety of bicycles or scooters during the school day. BIRTHDAYS The school does not plan or accommodate birthday parties. Please do not send balloons or sweet treats as they will not be distributed in school. You may send pencils, stickers, school supplies, a board game or card game for the class to share for a birthday treat. Please contact your students teac
