Shri Ram College of Commerce The LSR café is nicely done with red and yellow colour bricks, giving it a very youthful look. They even have a projector screen in the café that is often used for special screenings. The menu has a large range of fare that includes pastries, tart, choco pie, cold coffee, Rajma Chawal, Masala Dosa and cheese macaroni. Some of the best selling dishes here are Keema Dosa (R30), Chicken Tikka Roll (R35) and Shahi Paneer with Lacha Parantha (R30). They also serve light snacks like Samosas (R5), Bread Pakoras (R7) and Momos (R20). Where: Lady Shri Ram College Lajpat Nagar-IV After the college went for a new look in 2007, the canteen here has become the most happening hang out zone for the students. The food on offer here varies from snacks to Indian meals. The most popular snack here is the Samosa at R5. The canteen also has a good variety of Indian food, like Rajma Chawal, Kadi Chawal and Chhole Bhature, which are extra spicy. The stu- dents have the choice to either sit inside or outside the canteen depending on the weather. If you’re sitting outside, then an ice-cream vendor and a fresh fruit juice stall might interest you. Where: Ramjas College, University Enclave, North Campus Ramjas College The canteen sells reasonably priced food as compared to most of the eateries around the area. One can have a full meal under R30. The canteen is famous for its non- veg fare like chicken biryani (R30) and chicken sandwich (R20). Besides this, the canteen also offers both veg and chicken chowmein, cheese macaroni (R15), Chana-Kulcha (R15) and Chhole Bhature (R20). “The food at the canteen is really good and reasonable. We love the cheese macaroni at the canteen, as they never compromise on the cheese,” says Shubhi Goyal, a second year student. Where: Dyal Singh College, Lodhi Road Dyal Singh College The canteen at D school has students comings from not only North Campus but South Campus as well. The deep-fried mutton cutlet (R18) and the mutton dosa (R26) are the most popular items served in this canteen. If you want to have some mouth-watering desserts, then do try the strawberry jelly cream here. The canteen also serves veg and non-veg thali. Where: Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, North Campus Delhi School of Economics This is one of the few canteens in Delhi University that serves non-vegetarian food. The Samosas (R5) served here are supposed to be among the best in Delhi University. Shahi Paneer and Naan (R35) is the hottest selling item here. Students also flock to the canteen for its Rajma Chawal and spicy chowmein. Meals can also be taken to the roof top of the canteen from where you can enjoy them, with a view of the campus. Where: Hindu College, University of Delhi, North Campus Canteens are not just places to eat food but are also hangout zones in college LOT MORE THAN FOOD Lady Shri Ram College Students come here for a pocket-friendly meal that tastes like ghar ka khaana (homemade food). The Spic Macay Canteen is popular for the sprouts laddoo (laddoo made using condensed milk and sprouts, sugar). The vegetarian thali (R30), complete with dal, sabzi and chapattis, has many takers here. They also sell milkshakes, lassi, and lemonades, among other things. In this season, you can refresh yourself with mango shakes when here. The canteen has seating arrangement both inside and outside. Where: Arts Faculty, Chhatra Marg, Delhi University, North Campus Spic Macay Canteen This canteen is an ideal place for both chit- chat sessions and chaat. Well, the canteen is known throughout South Campus for its chaat corner that serves Aloo Chaat (R20), Pani Puri (R15), Bhelpuri (R15) and steamed sweet corn (R20). A dish that is quite famous in this canteen is the masala potatoes that are served with a crunchy filling (R20). Students here also love to have a plate of Rajma Chawal (R20). When here, go for the South Indian fare, especially the Idli and Vada (R20 for 2 pieces). The health conscious can have a glass of fresh fruit juice here. The canteen is ready for a makeover when the new academic session begins. Where: Gargi College, Siri Fort Road Gargi College The canteen at this college is like a mini food court where you will find everything from Indian to Chinese to Italian. Some of the Indian specialties include Chhole Bhature (R18 a plate) and Rajma Chawal (R17). They even have a chaat corner that sells Papri Chaat, Dahi Bhalla and Gol Gappe. Other hot selling items at the canteen are cheese macroni (R14), Kala Khatta (R20), momos, Chinese chaat and fresh juice. “I love the fact that they serve fresh fruit juice at the canteen and maintain high levels of hygiene,” says Isha Gupta, a 3rd year student. The canteen also has put up LCD screens. Where: Kamla Nehru College, Siri Fort Road, Gautam Nagar Kamla Nehru College The moment you walk into the café here, you would feel you’ve stepped into a Kolkata coffee house. With wicker chairs, bone china plates and fork and knives, this is the ideal place to unwind and catch up on your favourite novel. When here, go for the mince cutlets (R10 per piece), served with chutney. You can also order for buttered toast for R5 with it. Other favourites with students here are the cheese scrambled egg (R20), chicken momos (R40), Maggi with mince (R37), and chicken curry with rice (R40). Also popular for its food is the science dhaaba, situated in the science block of the college. Go for Rajma Chawal (R35) and patties (R7) when here.
