WESTERN PA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH DISASTER RESPONSE MINISTRIES (ALERT - BULLETIN): This is an URGENT reminder of the need for Early Response Teams and volunteers to help with clean up in the aftermath of Flash Flooding which has taken place over the course of the last 30 days. We still have homeowners to be helped with clean up in Fayette, Washington, and Allegheny Counties which encompass three of our districts.

In Fayette County (Connellsville District) specifically in the Uniontown, Fairchance, and Smithfield areas there are a minimum of six homes requiring cleaning of mud and debris along with the removal of drywall and insulation. Led by Rev. Mark Blair of Masontown/Smithfield UMC, Connellsville District Disaster Response Coordinator.

In Washington County (Washington City, Finleyville, and surrounding townships) Washington District. District Coordinator Christy Orndorff continues to do assessments with Pat Roddy (Crossroads) and Pastor Kelley Schanley (Washington 1st). A contact point at Washington First UM has been established. There are immediate needs for experienced ERT and also for volunteers to aid in this response.

The Pittsburgh District response under the direction of Fred Watts continues to address issues and appeal for teams to aid homeowners.

To register and share your availability, contact the District Response Coordinators directly or please go to www.wpaumc.org/summer2017floodvolunteers and someone will be in touch with you with an assignment.

You may continue to support these efforts through your assembly and collection of UMCOR kits directed to the East Brook Mission Barn or monetary donations may be directed to the Conference Treasurer and marked Disaster Response to be utilized where they are most needed.

In addition to your volunteering and giving - please remember to pray for those throughout the world affected by disaster and for the emergency and early response workers who a large number are volunteers and have been working tirelessly to help others in their time of need.

As always if I can be of any assistance - please do not hesitate to call.

The goals of this workshop are not limited to but expect that attendees will better be able to use the Conference website to find forms and various documents they need to better serve their appointment(s). Also to be better able to use the church and clergy dashboards and address any questions related to the use of the conference website. Attendees will also be able to address any issues related to the use of technology in the church to help them offer worship and ministry to those more technologically inclined. As part of John Wilson’s presentation we will learn how to use Mission Insight the conference demographic tool. This tool is valuable in helping clergy and their church boards and ministry teams to direct ministry properly based on the demographics in the areas where they serve the church. New- Braddock Road Preservation Association's French & Indian War History Seminar from November 3-4, 2017. Passion, Spies, Murder and Intrigue: How Western PA Events Ignited a World War.

In the mid-1700s, Southwestern Pennsylvania was the global epicenter for a dramatic series of “better than fiction” events that ultimately defined our modern world. In 2017, the Braddock Road Preservation Association (BRPA) revisits the actual sites, stories and people behind these events.

“As one of the largest seminars on this topic in the country, this event continues to attract more scholars, experts and history fans each year. The Jumonville venue – and all the sites we visit – are so rich with history that participants say they can feel it,” said Dr. Walter Powell, president of the BRPA Board of Directors.

Highlights of the seminar include an optional Friday bus tour of the Forbes Road and a visit and dinner at Fort Ligonier. Saturday speaker sessions feature numerous national and international pre-Colonial experts and scholars. The seminar is designed to examine the critical role our region played in French and Indian War history through hands-on engagement and discussion. Click here for more details.
