CLOSER TO THE HEART IN MEXICOOur Closer to the Heart partner for Convention 2016 was Casa Hogar, a charitable organization dedicated to helping young children in need. Casa Hogar serves children throughout the Baja California Sur area. Through a wide range of programs and services, Casa Hogar helps boys and girls get started on a path to success. Thanks to the generosity of many, a donation of $3,150 was made to Casa Hogar on behalf of UA/First UA and Globe Life ESD.

WE AREN’T THE ONLY ONES WHO THINK OUR WEBINARS ARE FANTASTIC“Your webinars are dynamite. I particularly like your specific goal setting and painting pictures with third party examples. Keep up the good work. I am excited about the opportunity in front of me, thanks in part to you.”
~ John Durkee
“I have participated in some of your trainings and they are certainly beneficial. Currently I'm using the Accidental Death Policy to get referrals … and it’s working! I'm waiting for the ‘Turning 65 list ' and will be taking your Medicare Supplement training soon.”
~ Joel Shane Gabbert
ANNOUNCING THE JUNE WINNERCongratulations to Jason Stevens, winner of the Yeti Cooler! Here’s what Jason had to say about UA: “United American has made it possible for an Agent to quickly build a successful career in the insurance industry. With level commissions for life* and the best customer support for clients, Agents can build financial security for themselves and their families—which is really unheard of anymore. Agents who don’t use UA within their book of business don’t know what they are missing, and they may never know the best option for their Medicare eligible clients.”
*As long as the business stays on the books.
ANNUITY RATEThe lifestyle annuity rate for July 2016 is 3.00%. We are not approved to sell the SPDA product in CO or NY.
WORDS OF WISDOM
“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.”
~Michelangelo
2 JULY 2016 #UACONVENTION2016
WHERE WILL YOUR VISION TAKE YOU?
We travel to some pretty spectacular places to celebrate our success, but Los Cabos is one of my favorite destinations. The natural beauty is incredible, and for someone who enjoys sport fishing as much as I do, it’s always fun to spend time in nearby Cabo San Lucas, ‘The Marlin Capital of the World’.
Whether we celebrate in a coastal town such as Los Cabos or a big city (we’ll be heading to Chicago in 2017), our goal is the same: to reward qualifiers with a first class convention experience because we truly appreciate your commitment to UA and First UA and understand the hard work it takes to get there.
For many of you who were in Los Cabos, the road to convention began with a vision, as most great achievements do. In fact, Cabo San Lucas itself is a great example of how vision can create something extraordinary.
CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’Cabo San Lucas was not always the tourist mecca it is today. In the mid-twentieth century, it was a quiet, sleepy fishing village. When Don Luis Bulnes Molleda arrived in Cabo San Lucas with his bride, Conchita, in 1955, it was an obscure town with 400 residents, no paved roads, electricity or restaurants. He had come from Spain to work as manager of the Impresas Pando tuna cannery.
One day, he was walking down the cannery's famous wooden dock and saw something splashing in the water. At first he thought it was a bird or seal, but then realized it was a large, striped marlin, caught by a hand line held by one of the boys on the dock.
As the story goes, Don Luis was transfigured by the grace, power, and natural beauty of that magnificent fish. Years later the vision and passion he experienced that day would motivate him to help establish one of Baja California's most important sport fishing resorts, and use its influence and financial resources
to establish a legal foundation intended to preserve billfish for future generations.
A LEGACY OF YOUR OWNOf course, Don Luis couldn’t accomplish everything he did by working alone. He needed help. Throughout the years, he employed
hundreds of local workers in his operations and they sometimes spanned generations. A few years before he died in 2011, a reporter asked him what the greatest thing he ever did was. He answered: “It feels good to know that a lot of people depend on me for employment. If someone wants to work, they have the opportunity.”
Many of you know that good feeling Don Luis was talking about. When you provide others with an opportunity to make a good living by bringing them into your Agencies and sharing your knowledge and skills with them, you feel good about helping someone else get started in a career with no limits. Appointing with UA and First UA opens up even more opportunity for training and support – not to mention a great portfolio of products.
And it’s not just a one-way street. Having Agents in your downline helps you earn more and qualify
faster for all the great incentives UA and First UA offer. Most importantly, sharing your vision with others, and working towards a collective vision, is a great way to achieve more than you ever dreamed of.
The great motivational speaker Zig Ziglar summed it up like this: “You will get all you want
in life if you help enough other people get what they want.”
As we head into the last half of 2016, what many of you want is to finish the year strong. We want that for you, too, so we’re here to help you reach that goal and anything else you’d like to achieve. Keep the lines tight and your vision strong!
Charles MankamyerPresident of General Agents

The Eagles Club is an elite group of Agency leaders representing the best of United American and First United American. They set the Company standard of excellence for field performance
and are the leaders in production, retention, recruiting, management development, and growth of in-force premium.
The ‘call of Los Cabos’ was strong during 2015, and those who worked hard to qualify were delighted when they arrived at this year’s convention headquarters, the lovely Hyatt Ziva. What better place to celebrate success than in Los Cabos on the tip of the California Baja Peninsula in Mexico. ‘¡Bonita!’… beautiful! But as spectacular as the landscape was, the best part of convention 2016 was connecting
with each other and enjoying the rewards of achieving all we hoped for and more.
THE AHLBUM INSURANCE GROUP, INC.
Under the leadership of Jon Ahlbum, The Ahlbum Insurance Group, Inc. ended the year with $4,874,491 in net annualized premium with 97.2% net to gross. The single biggest reason for this Agency’s success is their exceptional client service. Their motto is the ‘Agency where clients send their friends.’ As a leader, the biggest lesson Jon learned in 2015 is that opportunity is everywhere. His advice to those who are new to a leadership position is to lead by example and never stop learning.
PAUL SHELDON
Congratulations to #1 Producing Agent Paul Sheldon of Paul Sheldon Insurance & Benefits Planning. Paul finished 2015 with $822,079 in net annualized premium and 99.5% net to gross. His Agency motto is the golden rule: To treat clients and prospective clients the way we would want to be treated if we were them. For people new to a leadership position he advises that you Instill in those you lead the desire to use ideas that have worked for you.

10 JULY 2016 #UACONVENTION2016
My work for UA and First UA keeps me on the road a lot, and I really enjoy connecting with people from different places. But one of my favorite destinations is convention. Who doesn’t love a good celebration? I look forward to seeing familiar faces and congratulating everyone who made it to convention for the first time — especially when the setting is as fabulous as Los Cabos. If you were there, I hope you had a chance to view the spectacular scenery in the area and take in the some of the local culture. Such fun traditions! In Mexico, as in cultures all over the world, traditions are such a part of everyday life that no one has to think about planning them … they’re just the natural way of doing things.
A FIESTA OF OUR OWNTake the Mexican fiesta, for example. Some people say it’s an art form. Whatever you call it, fiesta is the ultimate celebration. Street theater and music, parades and fireworks, colorful costumes, food and laughter – they’re all part of religious holidays, festivals, and patriotic days in Mexico. The spirit of fiesta is really strong.
We had a spirit of fiesta at convention, too. Viva La Fiesta! is what our Mexican friends say. Long live the party! But to keep the party going strong at UA and First UA, we’ve got to keep our family of appointed Agents growing strong. To do that, we need to help promote a culture of recruiting among our appointed Agents – meaning recruiting needs to become such a part of our everyday work that we do it without really thinking about it.
SET THE RHYTHMWhether you’re an Agent building a downline or an Agency owner expanding your team, consider all the ways you could incorporate recruiting into your daily, weekly, or monthly routines. Here are some suggestions that have worked well for many of the Agents and Agencies I work with:
1 Network. The best networking opportunities are industry meetings, conferences, and educational events. Not only will you connect with other Agents but you can also benefit from staying up-to-date with the latest industry news. Don’t forget to bring lots of business cards. Online networking can be done through the Social Media site LinkedIn, a great place to connect and exchange information with other Agents in your area.
2 Hold a recruiting webinar or seminar using the UA/First UA True Teamwork Plan. We provide a Director to help you recruit Agents to your Agency and also pay a portion of costs. Contact your Director for more information.
3 Advertise more. This is a great one for those of you who are really pressed for time. We offer many pre-approved recruiting ads that make it easy to get the word out about the great opportunities available to Agents appointed with UA/First UA.
4 Post your opening on an online job board, such as Craigslist. Sites such as Craigslist are free and you’d be surprised at the number of responses you get.
These are just a few suggestions. To learn more, or if you know Agents you want to add to your team but need help in recruiting them, contact your UA/First UA Director. We have some great programs in place that may make the process easier for you.
DON’T STOP NOWConsistency is the key. Over time these actions will develop into habits and before you know it, your culture of recruiting will help you grow with no limits. And speaking of no limits, we’re planning for the biggest celebration ever in Chicago for Convention 2017. Hope to see you all there!

Agents who contract after Feb. 1, are prorated for Convention qualification. For example, contract in March and the Agent life/health requirement is 10 months or $125,000 of combined NAP. Minimum NAP for an Agent who contracts in June is six months or $75,000 combined NAP. Agents must be contracted and produce at a six-month minimum production level
to be eligible for Convention. Non-standard (Disability) Medicare Supplement production will not count towards qualification for Convention, Awards or Club honors.
