Dear Balboa Parents,

We will be holding elections for next year's (2014-2015) Balboa Spirit Club ExecutiveBoard at the April 2, 2014 BSC general meeting (8:30am). Please consider getting involvedand taking an active role in your child's experience here at Balboa. The BSC Board plan andexecute the family programs and events that ultimately benefit our students. All parents arewelcome to attend this meeting to vote for candidates or run for a position.

ALL positions are currently open.

We would like to send out the slate of names via E-backpack on March 26, so pleaselet us know by March 19 if you would like to run for a position. However, please note thatnames can be added to the slate the morning of the meeting. You only need attend themeeting and indicate your interest in running. So, please consider volunteering and gettinginvolved in one of these leadership positions.

Balboa Spirit ClubBoard Officer Responsibilities

President: Works with the school administration to ensure the BSC fulfills its mission ofsupporting Balboa Magnet. Manages the delegation of all assignments and oversees monthlymeetings. Works on developing operational budget with treasurer. Plans schedule of events withschool. Strategizes fundraising with board and chairpersons. Troubleshoot issues that may ariseand assist as needed. Some planning over the summer and ongoing check-in's with chairpersonsthroughout the year. Actively present at community events. Very helpful to have knowledge ofBalboa events.

Executive Vice President: assists the President, if President absent runs meeting, takes this postin anticipation of becoming President.

Chief Financial Officer: oversees the financial affairs of the Balboa Spirit Club. This includesworking closely with the administration and the BSC treasurer in financial decisions. Runs theannual Direct Appeal (COMPASS Fund) campaign and tracks donations.Responsible for renewing BSC insurance policies and interacting with insurance broker onoccasional basis. Also responsible for submitting LAUSDpermit applications for BSC events takingplace after school hours, such as Fall Picnic, Math Night and Festival ofthe Arts. The timecommitment is greatest from August through October. The majority of the work can be done onyour own time, outside of school and in the evenings or weekends.

1st VP - Communications: oversees Room Parents, BSCwebsite, Facebook, School Newsletter-"Balboa Beat," Mail Chimp, Directory, meeting signs, yearbook, and Job Fair.

2nd VP - Community Outreach: oversees programs like Earthquake Kits, Holiday Outreach,Stop, Drop & Roll, Parent Education, TAP, Green Team, STAR after school program as well ascommunity events that may include Math Night, Fall Picnic, and Sports Night.

3rd VP - Hospitality: hospitality at Balboa Spirit Club meetings in providing refreshments.Oversee food services for all events and assist chairpersons at New Student Orientation, TeacherWelcome Lunch, Holiday Potluck, Teacher Appreciation Lunch, Back to School Night and OpenHouse.

4th VP - Ways & Means: a fundraising position, overseeing event chairpersons and programsthat may include jog-a-then, spell-a-then, Book Fair, Festival ofthe Arts, Silent Auction, SpiritStore, After School Enrichment, etc. It is important to be available via em ail and be able to attendmost board meetings (approximately 6-7 per school year). Someone who is strategic in lookingfor fund raising opportunities and able to plan for the schools financial needs.

Treasurer: responsible for budgets, check writing, monthly financial statements, reconciling bankaccounts, processing of COMPASS fund pledges made by credit card, annual reporting ofcontractor wages, preparation of tax schedules, tracking and verification of employer matchingdonations to COMPASS fund, reporting budget variances, and providing summary of individualevents/programs to program chairs; knowledge of Quicken preferred.

Financial Secretary: makes deposits and generates monthly reports.

Parliamentarian: responsible for keeping order during a meeting and assuring bylaws areadhered to

Recording Secretary: responsible for taking minutes at both board and general meetings andsigning warrants and checks on a weekly basis. max of 4-5 hours per month (taking minutes atboth meetings, transcribing minutes, warrant/check signing).

Corresponding Secretary: responsible for miscellaneous correspondence

Historian: responsible for taking pictures at school events and at school, providing photos to theyearbook committee.
