Los Angeles downtown and Dodger Stadium
Safely on the ground at Oceano
Marine Layer from the ground
Starting all over again in the morning
Emerged underneath after waiting for a while
St Joaquin Valley south of Bakersfield
Rosamond Lake waiting for ATC to acknowledge
Pisgah Lava Field, I 40 & Hwy 66
Snuggled up to a flatbed trailer to stay out of the weather
Enjoying the scenery while everything is still calm
Not all that friendly looking
But plenty of room for a small plane
Over Angel Fire airport (7170 ft), looking north at Eagle Nest Lake
Descending into the foothills
Raton, friendliest airport on the whole trip
Isolated thunderstorms everywhere
Pretty above, but hell underneath – let’s climb
Don’t want to stay up here too long
Salt Plains NWR, OK and time to descend
Dropping into Anthony, KS out of stormy skies – again fueled up by Police after calling 911
Home Run -
• The final leg to Lee’s Summit was one heck of an endurance test
• Low ceilings, haze, isolated thunderstorms and brutal turbulence kept me more than busy
• While I always maintained a safe margin of control, there was not a chance for holding a camera steady enough to shoot pictures.
