EARLY GETAWAY: The Dodgers today continue their 10-game NL
East road trip (2-3) with the finale of a three-game series against the
Atlanta Braves in an early 12:10 p.m. ET start. The Dodgers took two
of three from the first-place Nationals this past weekend, but are in
danger of getting swept on the road for the fourth time this season
(April 21-23 and May 19-21 in San Francisco, June 15-16 in Texas).
Following today’s game, the club heads to the “Big Apple” and starts
up a four-game set with the Mets at Citi Field tomorrow night.
Following the trip, the Dodgers return home for an off day July 27,
before beginning a five-game homestand against Oakland (2 G) and
the Angels (3 G).
The Dodgers took two of three from Atlanta at Dodger
Stadium May 25-27, but are one loss away from getting
swept by the Braves for the first time since May 17-19, 2013
at Turner Field. Since Turner Field opened in 1997, the
Dodgers are just 28-40 (.412) in Atlanta, one of their worst
marks in a current road stadium during that time:
Dodgers, Worst Win. Pct. in Road Parks Since 1997 (min. 10 games played)
Stadium Record PCT.
O.Co. Coliseum 2-12 .143
Busch Stadium 12-23 .343
Angel Stadium 18-32 .360
Turner Field 28-40 .412
Minute Maid Park 19-21 .475
The Dodgers are 20-25 on the road this season, which stands
in sharp contrast to their 49-32 record away from home last
season. Since the start of 2011, the Dodgers are 90-60 (.600)
on the road following the All-Star break.
The Dodgers’ 87-51 record (.630) in the second half of the
season since 2013 is the best in baseball. The next closest
team is the Kansas City Royals at 88-55 (.615).
HOLY TSAO!: Dodger reliever Chin-hui Tsao took the hard-luck
loss last night, but did collect his first at-bat since Sept. 21, 2003 and
boy did he make it count. Tsao ripped a double over the center
fielder’s head for his first Major League hit since Aug. 23, 2003 at
Coors Field vs. Atlanta. The gap of 11 years and 332 days between
hits is the fifth-longest since 1914, according to STATS, LLC. Tsao
came in behind Joe Cicero (14 years, 338 days from 1930-1945),
Ralph Winegarner (13, 36, 1936-49), Charlie Hough (13 years even,
1980-93) and Minnie Minoso (12, 94, 1964-76).
AS THE RED TURNS: Dodger third baseman Justin Turner stayed
hot last night, cracking his career-high 12th homer of the season in his
first at-bat. Turner is now 9-for-15 in his last four games while hitting
.346 in July (12th, NL). The Southern California native has raised his
average .22 points in the last six games, going from .300 to .322.
Since joining the Dodgers last season, Turner is hitting .332,
which is the best average in Major League Baseball during
that time (min. 500 AB). Troy Tulowitzki ranks second with
a .328 average since the start of 2014.
The Dodgers lead the National League with 118 homers, 328
walks and a .330 on-base percentage.
HALL OF A WEEKEND: Congratulations to four legends on their
induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend in
Cooperstown, NY. Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and
John Smoltz will take their rightful place in the annals of baseball this
Sunday. More than 50 Hall of Famers are scheduled to be in
Cooperstown to honor the Class of 2015, including Dodger greats
Sandy Koufax and Tommy Lasorda and Dodger President and CEO
Stan Kasten. The induction ceremony will be held Sunday, at 1:30
p.m. ET and be shown live on MLB Network and via webcast at
www.baseballhall.org.
WE NEED INNINGS: Dodger hurler Mike Bolsinger takes the
mound today looking for his fifth victory in his 15th start of 2015. The
right-hander has held the opposition to a .238 batting average on the
season and is looking to go longer than 6.0 innings for the first time
since June 8 (7.0 IP). His only career start against the Braves came on
July 5, 2014, when he gave up seven runs (five earned) and 10 hits in
3.2 innings at Turner Field.
TOTALLY JOCULAR: The Dodgers want to congratulate rookie
All-Star center fielder Joc Pederson, who yesterday was named the
winner of the Dodgers’ 2015 Heart and Hustle Award, presented by
the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association. This
esteemed award honors active players who demonstrate a passion for
the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and tradition
of the game. The Heart and Hustle Award is also the only award in
Major League Baseball that is voted on by former players. The overall
winner will be announced on Nov. 10, 2015 in New York City.

strikeouts per nine innings. In his career, Jansen has averaged 14.18
