The Wonder of Learning exhibit is in Ontario for five months. This visual representation of the Reggio Emilia philosophy offers a unique opportunity to explore the exhibit and allows you to engage in the projects from children and adults in a variety of forms. Emergent Language Learners: Celebrating and Supporting Bilingual Families in Child Care Centres

This workshop focuses on discussions around “Emergent Language Learners” children who are learning to speak, read, and express themselves in many languages.

The Preschool Outdoor Environment Measurement Scale (POEMS) is an assessment tool for evaluating the quality of outdoor environments for children 3-5 years. The tool looks at the Physical Environment, Interactions, Program, the Teacher Caregiver Role, and was developed as a checklist to support child care providers in creating high quality learning environments for children during outdoor play.

This session provides a more detailed look at key items and their indicators as well as common terminology found in the tool. Through analysis and discussion you

gain information to ensure a common understanding of the items/indicators so that observations are accurate across programs. You update your SACERS tool

The Nature of Language: Using Nature to Foster Language Experiences October 18, 2016 6:00pm-8:00pm

A walk outdoors can spark conversations that promote rich language, yet how do educators balance the “dangers” of outdoor excursions with the benefits? This workshop focuses on conversations around how “outdoor classrooms” enrich language with young children (ages 1-4), how to enhance outdoor language experiences, and how to realistically use the elements of “outdoor classrooms” in a child care environment. This interactive session is designed to introduce educators to one practical form of documentation – Learning Stories. Participants are invited to share their observations, curiosities and discoveries when creating a learning story which captures children’s thinking, feelings and values. The Wonder of Learning exhibit is in Ontario for five months. This visual representation of the Reggio Emilia philosophy offers a unique opportunity to explore the exhibit and allows you to engage in the projects from children and adults in a variety of forms. Reflective Practice II Centre Model, School Age Model Level II

Reflective practice is essential to professionalism in early childhood education. As individuals, it is a necessary means to grow, develop, refine, and change what we do in our work with children and families. Becoming a “reflective practitioner” is a personal and professional journey of developing knowledge, awareness, and skills. Building on the learning from Quality First’s “Introduction to Reflective Practice”, this session provides an opportunity to: reconnect with what you already know about reflective practice, explore the role and value of reflective practice for increasing professionalism and personal growth, and develop reflective skills and activities to use for yourself and for developing individuals on your team. Participants must attend the Introduction to Reflective Practice prior to attending this session.

This session provides a more detailed look at key items and their indicators as well as common terminology found in the tool. Through analysis and discussion you gain

information to ensure common understanding of the items/indicators so that observations are accurate across programs. Participants update their ITERS-R tool

throughout the session, in order to do this you must bring a copy of the tool and the All About ITERS-R book. You are required to complete an ERS self study

before attending this session.
