Wonder of Learning Bus Trip September 10, 2016 11:30am-6:00pm
The Wonder of Learning exhibit is in Ontario for five months. This visual representation of the Reggio Emilia philosophy offers a unique opportunity to explore the exhibit and allows you to engage in the projects from children and adults in a variety of forms. Enjoy a bus ride with colleagues to the Royal York location and be able to share this experience while supporting your own journey of learning. This is a self-guided tour. Emergent Language Learners: Celebrating and Supporting Bilingual Families in Child Care Centres

This workshop focuses on discussions around “Emergent Language Learners” children who are learning to speak, read, and express themselves in many languages.
Through a lens of Well-Being, Expression, Belonging and Engagement we delve into the challenges this may present to English speaking caregivers when trying to
engage children and families. Practical tips pertaining to emergent language learners are shared to support partnerships with families. Please come ready to share your
experiences as we work towards building inclusive environments and celebrating diversity in the classroom.

Preschool Outdoor Environment Measurement Scale (POEMS) September 20, 2016 6:15pm-8:15pm
The Preschool Outdoor Environment Measurement Scale (POEMS) is an assessment tool for evaluating the quality of outdoor environments for children 3-5 years. The tool looks at the Physical Environment, Interactions, Program, the Teacher Caregiver Role, and was developed as a checklist to support child care providers in creating high quality learning environments for children during outdoor play.

This session provides a more detailed look at key items and their indicators as well as common terminology found in the tool. Through analysis and discussion you
gain information to ensure a common understanding of the items/indicators so that observations are accurate across programs. You update your SACERS tool
throughout the session, in order to do this you must bring a copy of the tool. You are required to complete the SACERS-Updated self study, before attending
this session.

Effectively supervising children in your care includes, yet goes beyond, counting how many children you have in your room. Supervising young children requires constant awareness and vigilance as well as appropriate strategies to ensure children are accounted for and are safe. Standard First Aid & CPR-C Training October 1, 2016 8:00am-4:00pm
Child care supervisors, employees, and home child care providers must have a valid standard first aid certification including infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as noted in The Child Care and Early Years Act:. This session has a 4-6 hour online portion that must be completed prior to the Saturday, October 1 session.

This inquiry group provides educators of school age children with the opportunity to explore How Does Learning Happen? the Ministry of Education’s Pedagogy. Through a facilitated process, participants discuss their understanding and their experiences of living out the concepts in relationships with children, families, and each other. Come with your discoveries and curiosities and be ready to share, explore and learn new practices. Be sure to bring your copy of How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.

Examining Session: Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale Revised (ECERS-R) Centre Model Level II

This session provides a more detailed look at key items and their indicators as well as common terminology found in the tool. Through activities, analysis and discussion
you gain information to ensure common understanding of the items/indicators so observations are accurate across programs. Participants update their ECERS-R tool
throughout the session. In order to do this you must bring a copy of the tool and the All About ECERS-R book. Participants are required to complete an ERS
self study, before attending this session.
