Of all the aspects of wood furniture, the finish most visibly reflects its character, quality and style. While the finish is one of the last things we do, it’s the first thing you see. That’s why at Hooker, we utilize a multiple-step finish process of up to 16 finish steps. This results in an unsurpassed clarity, depth and color richness and durability to our finishes. Through hand-craftsmanship such as rubbing and padding, our finishes “feel” as good as they look, with a smoothness that is delightful to the touch.

What to look for in finishes, drawers and wood furniture construction

Wood & Veneer ConstructionMany of our furniture items are constructed of hardwood solids and veneers or hand-painted finishes over durable wood products such as medium density fiberboard (MDF) and particle board. MDF and particle board are used in quality furniture for areas that need to be stable, such as large surfaces. These durable wood products do not expand and contract with heat and cold and do not absorb moisture as much as solid wood, which results in stronger and longer-lasting furniture. Due to a wide variety of wood species and decorative designs used in our furniture styles, variations in construction are possible.

The wall desk and hutch can be used free standing or you may add on three styles of bookcases to make a wall as long as needed. A free-standing leg desk can be used in conjunction with the other pieces or alone. Locking file drawers are available in the wall desk, open bookcase and door bookcase, taking letter or legal files.
