“Of course we are all in a pendulum swing in looking ahead to some fabulous changes but there is always work to be done and hope
for a very strong finish!“
Ladies,
Spring…..so close and yet sometimes seemingly, so far away, BUT it is a perfect picture of hope AND change. There is much going on with BPW/USA, BPW/KY as well as BPW/RC. Of course we are all in a pendulum swing in looking ahead to some fabulous changes but there is always work to be done and hope for a very strong finish! One of my favorite bible verses is, “Therefore, … let us throw off everything that hinders ...and so easily entangles, and let us run with persever-ance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1-3. I have an outstanding team that are persevering very powerfully and we know we have been blessed this year. This weekend is the North Region meeting (here in Louisville) and I will re-port out on the strength and successes of our year. We are so very blessed and while my term will end in May, BPW stands strong and will continue with skilled, phenomenal women who stand up for one another and others who cannot do so for themselves!
Spring…..hmmmmmm, can’t you smell the easy, fresh breeze and feel the sunlight on your face?!
Blessings abundant!

You Can Obtain a Free Credit Report A credit report contains infor-mation on where you live, how you pay your bills, whether you have been sued, arrested or filed for bankruptcy. Nationwide consumer reporting companies sell the information in your report to creditors, insurers, employers and other businesses that use it to evalu-
ate your applications for credit, insurance, employment or renting a home. There are three nationwide consumer reporting companies – Equifax, Experian and Trans Union. You can request a copy of your report via the Internet or over the phone. The website for your annual free credit report is: www.annualcreditreport.com.
You must request the report from each of the three bureaus separately. It is suggested that you request reports from the three bureaus at different times throughout the year rather than all at one time to track any changes in your re-port. Your spouse can also request a separate report three times a year which means you
can alternate months and re-ceive a report six out of 12 months each year. The toll free number to request your report is 877-322-8228. Here are the websites for the three credit bureaus: www.equifax.com www.experian.com www.transunion.com

Network Your Way Out of the Recession
By Louise Yates
With the current economic climate and the prospect of challenging times ahead as a small business you may be looking to answer the following q u e s t i o n s :
· How are you going to bring in the business you are looking f o r ? · What other opportunities should you be seeking out? · How can you keep your pro-file raised so you win over your c o m p e t i t i o n ? · How should you spend your limited marketing budget?
You may already be out there promoting yourself and your
business and at times wonder-ing whether you are still get-ting the return you are looking for. One of your marketing activities may be business net-working and this may be one expenditure that you are look-ing to cut, especially if the results are not instantaneous.

Gallopalooza 2009 Gallopalooza 2009 is kicking off with a 3 day public preview event held at Churchill Downs April 9th, 10th and 11th. These are all-day events and are open to the public. This will be the only time the horses will be altogether before being placed around the city for the summer, so it's a great time to see them and take pictures. We are expecting big crowds and
Sat-
urday will be our busiest traffic day with lots of families attending. However, we thought it would be nice to offer a special eve-ning geared more towards just adults and we are doing this Thursday evening, April 9th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm (the public preview day will end at 4:00 pm). We are inviting many of the business and professional associations
from the area to join us for this special net-working event. Admission price is $5.00. A cash bar and concessions will be available. Entrance to the event is through Gate 10 and there is ample free parking. Please make announcements to your members, send an email, or include this information in your next news-letter. We would love to see as
many people as possible come down or stop by after work! If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 502-409-9047. Wendy Kroeger Gallopalooza 2009 Event Committee

In preparation for Equal Pay Day on April 28, 2009 let’s take a moment to celebrate the passage of Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law. President Obama signed this legislation on January 29 making it the first legislation of his admini-stration. How significant!
National data indicates earn-ings changed by less than one
percent from 2006 to 2007, narrowing the wage gap only slightly, from 76.9 to 77.8 per-cent. Women are still earning $.78 to a man’s dollar.
As we tighten our belts to deal with an ailing economy, women must become more vigilant than ever in negotiating sala-ries. Failure to negotiate sala-ries upfront costs us and our families in the long run, in some cases, over $2 million throughout our lifetime. There are resources to help you ask for what you truly need and are worth despite economic influ-ences.
To help women become more agile at salary negotiation the National Women’s Law Center presented, WORK$MART: Pay Negotiation for Women, a two-part webinar by Evelyn Murphy of The WAGE Project. To ac-cess the webinar, visit http://www.pay-equity.org/ and then follow the instructions pro-vided.
You will be asked to submit a small amount of demographic information including your name and an organization. You will then have the option to download a file with the re-cordings inside. It’s easy and it’s worth it!
You’ll learn how to benchmark what your job is worth in the job market. Do not go to an-other job interview without it!
As the Business and Profes-sional Women of River City plan for its own Pay Equity Day we look forward to your in-volvement. If you are inter-ested in becoming a part of the planning process for this year’s event contact me at
