Last Wednesday, our Year 5 candidates for the student executive team 2019, delivered their speeches to the school. We have such a strong field of potential leaders and all of these students presented wonderful speeches. Successful candidates will be announced at our Presentation Day on Friday, 14 December. Congratulations to all candidates, our student executive for 2019 will be incredibly strong! Congratulations to all students who received awards at our Recognition Assembly last Friday. We have so many outstanding young people and these assemblies are a wonderful place to recognise their achievements and hard work. Thanks to our friends and family members who came along to support. We love having you here! We look forward to our Term 4 visit from John Fleming this Thursday. With John’s guidance this year, coupled with exceptional teaching, our students are flourishing. I look forward to viewing the latest reading, writing and numeracy data from our classes to see the outstanding impact of quality teaching in our school. Congratulations to our teaching team for their dedication to ensuring our kids have the very best opportunities, every day. Semester 2 Reports Reports will be sent home on Monday, 10 December. You will notice that we have made some changes to our report format this semester. As the Literacy and Numeracy continuums are being phased out (by the Department of Education) they will no longer be part of the MPS student academic report. We have condensed our format to include a personalised general comment (at the beginning of the report), effort and achievement in each of the Key Learning Areas as per the A-E scale and for each Key Learning Area, assessment against stage outcomes identified as working towards (expected level), working at (expected level) or working beyond (expected level) at this point in time. Also included will be your child's commitment to our school values and the extra-curricular activities they have participated in. Upon receiving your child's report, you are welcome to make an appointment with the class teacher to discuss. ‘PATH 2 CHANGE’ CHRISTMAS CHARITY DRIVE Cadence C and a team of Year 6 students are coordinating a Christmas Charity drive in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Our ‘big red box’ from the school production is being transformed into a giant Christmas box where we are asking for donations in support of a local charity, ‘Path 2 Change’. ‘Path 2 Change’ is a not-for-profit organisation that provides assistance to young people in the Newcastle and Hunter region. They support young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, by providing specialised support and access to education, training and employment opportunities.

The box is dedicated to giving young people, generally aged 15 years and over, items that may bring them some comfort and joy over the Christmas period. We are asking our Maryland community to assist this cause by placing new, unwrapped items in the box, which will be located near the front office of the school.

Donations may include; non-perishable food items, stationery, makeup, books, toiletry items (bags, deodorant, toothbrush / paste, hairbrush, women’s sanitary items, nail polish,

MARYLAND 2018 SCHOOL YEARBOOK The Student Yearbook team is busy gathering photos and working with classes to produce class pages. The Yearbook will also highlight the achievements of our students and school over 2018 as well as showcase the range of activities and events that have been on the Maryland calendar this year.

We are asking for any additional photos that parents or students may have of special events such as: the school musical, sporting events, cultural days, excursions, camps or any other event or activity held during 2018. Photos need to be clear, focused and of a high quality / resolution. Photos can be put on a memory stick (clearly labelled with your child’s name and class so we can return it to you) or shared securely by going to https://dropevent.com/gallery/top20507

2018 School Yearbook order forms are attached to this newsletter.
