Pentecost is our feast today - the birthday of the Church. The Apostles and some chosen disciples together in that same upper room received the Holy Spirit and

were transformed into evangelizers - willing to stand up for the truth that Jesus is Lord. We pray that the Spirit that we have received will empower us to be the true evangelizers of the Good News that is bring all into the knowledge and love of God.

Today we mark the end of the year of prayer that Bishop Fabbro asked us to observe. We continue to pray for our Leadership and our Diocese that we will be strong in faith and be living examples of the gospel. We are a phenomenal people alive in the truth that has been given to us in baptism and confirmation. Let us proclaim like the first disciples the fervour of being alive in Jesus.

I have called together a Pandemic Response Team to assist me in the manner in which we will welcome home all of you. There is no sure time frame in which we will see this happen. Our Team will work out the ins and outs on how best to open up the Family to gather and celebrate the sacraments. Realizing that not everyone will be comfortable in coming back to Church right away there are those who are anxious to be a part of the Eucharist. But to do that we must ensure that protocols and precautions are taken to make the environment safe. I will keep you informed of the means by which we will determine this passage. We don’t want to make some of the mistakes that have been made and people were infected and became ill. That is not something I want to happen to any of you or myself.

The reopening of our church buildings is far more complex than closing them ever was, but to do so with kindness, humility, grace is the challenge before us The question is, how do you do it well? When emotions, adrenaline and fatigue run high (and they’re all running high right now), it’s a perfect set up for decisions you may one day regret.

So we will take all aspects that we need to address one step at a time and hopefully make this welcoming home a truly safe and holy event.

BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG CAMPAIGN

The Baby Bottle Bomerang (BBB) is the main fundraiser of the year for Right to Life Kent-Refuge Pregnancy Resource Centre; as you well know this year’s BBB Campaign has been greatly impacted by Covid-19.

Good news for them, they have been able to set up the BBB Campaign virtually from the canadahelps.org webpage. Anyone can donate to this campaign using this link:

ww.canadahelps.org/en/dn/m/49216/donation

You may also donate by cheque. Please make the cheque payable to Refuge and on the “RE” line indicate BBB or Baby Bottle Boomerang. Cheques can be dropped off or mailed directly to the following address:

Right to Life Kent-Refuge 39 Grand Ave W, Chatham ON N7L 1B4

Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated!

MAY 16 MIRACLE UPDATE Job well done Chatham-Kent! The May 16 Miracle Food drive has totaled approximately 678,200 pounds of donated food!

It was reported by CKSY, “that is roughly the weight as three blue whales or 50 African elephants and could be enough to set a new world record for the largest food drive in 24 hours.”

“When Chatham-Kent residents get together, anything is possible!”

You can feel so small standing by the seashore. The vastness of all that is before you expands much farther than your eye can see. What is happening on the other side? As tides continue to ebb and flow, what occurs as they come and go remains largely a mystery and the effects of their presence unknown in your sight. Yet, things are moving and changing as you gaze upon the water, as the thumbprint of their presence is left behind. The greater the wind and wave, the greater the effect. But even a gentle breeze leaves its humble mark upon the seashore on which you stand. The smallest pebble still makes a ripple in the great blue expanse of ocean waters. It

doesn’t need to be big.

You never know the full impact of your smallest gesture or simplest of words. A yes or no, agree or disagree, here or there, this or that can influence time and history in ways you may never know. The Holy Spirit is like that: fierce and torrential, and then almost still and silent, creating and recreating nonetheless. Coming as a gentle breeze or a gusty wind, God’s Holy Spirit continues to move over, around, and into the waters of our lives. The Spirit brings fruit and unknown possibilities to what we humbly bring with us and that same Spirit

eventually brings all to fulfillment in Christ.

The first disciples didn’t have much. They possessed simple faith and a willingness to go into unchartered territory with a love of their friend-God, humble offerings, and a knowledge that they were not alone. This allowed them to do amazing things with very little. Do you believe that you are being led and that you have a purposeful life? We often do not realize our value because we do not think that the little we have is good enough. How wrong we are! A little flour mixed with water and embraced by a prayer of blessing transforms simple offerings into the magnificent Eucharistic presence of God. If the Holy Spirit can do such amazing things with these humble gifts of the earth, even more can happen with you. Don’t underestimate the value of the smile you gave a stranger, the door held open for an elderly widow, the listening ear offered to one who was lonely, the tolerance given to the wounded soul who is angry, and the loving shoulder you offered as a cradle under the head of someone in pain. Modest gifts offered with love can be transformed by the Spirit

into wondrous blessings you may never know. It’s Pentecost. Trust. You are not alone.

NOTE FROM RODGER Greetings. I hope that everyone remains safe and healthy and that your loved ones are well in this time of change in our normal life style.

As I had mentioned in last weeks bulletin, I will be reporting on one parish a week. This will help to give a little more information about each site, as well as an understanding of what is needed to meet specific health and safety, fire code inspections and local health requirements, the tests required to make sure all operations as required for passing code requirements. The reason why we cannot do some things without a licensed technician is because we need to ensure compliance.

Each parish site is responsible for its individual expenses attributed to the building and property. Shared expenses such as expenses for the Priests, administration and pastoral staff are shared by each parish. One example of shared income is that every parish shares equitably in the income from the advertising in the bulletin.

In the following weeks, I will outline some of the major financial items that pertain to the individual parish sites. I would encourage you to look at every parish site as they are inserted in the bulletin, not only the site you normally attend or support financially.

Thank you for your support.

CHURCH CHUCKLE Little Philip was walking home in the rain with his mother following Sunday worship. It finally stopped raining as they rounded the corner, where to their surprise and delight appeared a vivid double rainbow in the sky.

“Doesn’t it look like an artist painted this rainbow?” his mother exclaimed. “I bet God painted this just for you!”

“Yes,” replied Philip, “God did it, and he did it left handed.”

Confused, his mother asked him, “What makes you say God did this with his left hand?”

“Well,” said Philip, “we learned in Sunday School that Jesus sits on God’s right hand.”

As we are all forced to slow down in our current world, unfortunately some things continue along, such as our household bills and expenses. The same goes for our parishes as well, that operate mainly on donations received at Mass. If you normally donate with your offertory envelope when you attend Mass, there are some other options—including a new, easy, online option.

E-TRANSFER Using your online banking website or app, add the parish you wish to donate to using the parish email address: Blessed Sacrament – [email protected] Our Lady of Victory – [email protected] St. Agnes – [email protected] St. Joseph – [email protected] St. Ursula – [email protected]

Create the e-transfer and in the comment/note area, please indicate your envelope number or your address and which fund you are donating to, such as Sunday Offertory, Easter, Building, Share Lent etc.

No password is needed as the parishes are set up for autodeposit.

CHEQUE If you do not use online banking, you can mail a cheque to the office. Please make your cheque payable to the particular parish and on the memo line, indicate which fund you are donating to. Please mail it to:

St. Agnes Parish 52 Croydon St. Chatham ON N7L 1L3 Attention: “Name of parish you are donating to”

PAD (Pre-Authorized Debit) If you wish to set up PAD, you won’t have to worry about remembering to bring your envelope to Mass or be concerned that you can’t donate because you can’t attend Mass, such as our current situation.

There is a form available on the website (www.ccfp.dol.ca/how-to-donate or click Giving/How to Donate on the top menu). You can print off the form and fill it out and either scan the form and a void cheque and email it (using the email addresses above), or mail the form and void cheque to the office (using the address indicated above). Please note for this method, the form must be received before the 15th of the month in order to take effect the next month.

We have a new way to make your donations to the Chatham Catholic Family of Parishes! Parishioners and visitors can make donations online using a computer, laptop, tablet or any mobile device, using your Visa and Mastercard (credit card, as well as Visa and Mastercard debit cards) for any type of donation. This includes both one-time donations and recurring donations. We have been working with a team of experts from Pllenty Inc. to develop this capability.

Getting Started Is Easy • Using your mobile device’s camera, scan the QR

code (see codes below with the particular parish name you wish to donate to), and simply follow the instructions on the screen to make your donation. If you have an older Android smartphone, you may have to install a scanning app — newer androids and all iPhones will scan without the scanning app. You will quickly be directed to the web application.

OR • On your computer or electronic device, go to

Chatham Catholic Family of Parishes website: www.ccfp.dol.ca, then choose the How to Donate button on the home screen, or on the top menu, click Giving/How to Donate, and follow the instructions for the particular parish you wish to donate to.

You will have the option to choose where your donation will go, such as Regular Sunday Offertory, Christmas, Building etc. You can also add a comment. Any funds donated through Pllenty will be part of your annual tax receipt from the parish.

There is no fee to make your donation using this service. Pllenty Inc. runs on Amazon Web services and meets strict Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DDS) for service providers.

This option is currently not available for Our Lady of Victory Parish.
