HE Loop A MONTHLY PUBLICATION FROM BCCC // ISSUE #126 APRIL 2018 HERE’S WHAT’S NEW… Have you ever heard that expression before? I did a Google search and came up with the origin of this saying, here it is: In a column that appeared in the Columbus (Ohio) Citizen (Nov. 26, 1927) Billy Evans wrote that "I gave it the old college try” which is a term "often used in big league baseball, when some player keeps on going after a fly ball, usually in foul territory, with the odds about ten to one he would never reach it. Teammates of such a player often beat him to it by shouting in unison with the thought of humor uppermost: 'Well, kid, you certainly gave it the old college try,' as he falls short of making the catch." In other words, you tried your best to make it work, but fell short of catching the ball. Has this ever happened to you? You had a great idea, put your best foot forward, shot for success, but ultimately failed to do what you set out to do? The ‘old college try’ really encapsulates my feelings about our 8:00 service we started a year ago with the best of intentions but failed to get the desired results. With attendance decreasing every month at the 8:00 service, we had to accept the reality that this service was not going to achieve the goal we set for it. I do want to thank all of our volunteers who showed up extra early on Sunday mornings to serve those who came. Thank you as well to those who committed to attend this service to try to make it a permanent part of our schedule. We can look back knowing we gave it 49 Sundays to work, but now need to look at other means to accommodate any future growth. Like going after a fly ball you have little chance of catching, ministry is about taking risks, and running after those things which seem out of your reach, but you still gotta try. I’m thankful to be at a church that isn’t afraid to take risks and continues to strive for solutions even though we might not catch the ball from time to time. We’ll continue to dream big and chase those dreams in faith knowing that more than not, with God’s help, we’ll catch that ball! Striving ahead, Solomon The Old College Try Starting April 8, our Worship Services will be at 9:15 & 10:45am.

HERE’S WHAT’S NEW…

Have you ever heard that expression before? I did a Google search and came up with the origin of this saying, here it is: In a column that appeared in the Columbus (Ohio) Citizen (Nov. 26, 1927) Billy Evans wrote that "I gave it the old college try” which is a term "often used in big league baseball, when some player keeps on going after a fly ball, usually in foul territory, with the odds about ten to one he would never reach it. In other words, you tried your best to make it work, but fell short of catching the ball.

Guatemala TripWhat a great time, we had, in Guatemala.

We took a multi faceted team to Guatemala. One team went to build a home for a needy family (this was the team I was on), one team was there to teach mid-wives a safer way during the birthing process, and one team met with local pastors to discuss ways to lead the church in Guatemala. Each evening we would get together and share what each team accomplished, and how God both used and spoke to them during the day.

I can tell you that the family we built a small home for was blessed. This home will allow them to better feed their family, as 90% of what they made went for rent. I can tell you that the Mid-wives were blessed, each one receiving a diploma after completing their program. I can tell you that the pastors were blessed. For them, it was like going to a pastor’s conference.

There was a lot of work, a lot of fun, a lot of laughter during the day with each and every team. And though we were there to bless others, we were richly blessed for going.

After the build was over, we spent a day at Morning Glory school, worshipping with grade school children. While they sang in Spanish, we sang in English, and my heart went out to these beautiful children who shouted their love for Jesus. It was my favorite day! I’m already planning on going back. Come with me!

What You Need

To Know:“You have known the Holy Scriptures ever since you were a little child. They are able to teach you how to be saved by believing in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

Awana is a Bible memorization club for kids ages preschool through high school. We meet on Wednesday evenings 6:30-8:00, September through April. We have had a great year! The kids are working hard to study and memorize Scripture so they can show themselves approved and stand unashamed in a world that constantly challenges the Christian faith.

As our year is winding down, we have a few kids on track to earn the Timothy Award. This is the highest honor a kid in Awana can earn. To earn the Timothy award, you must complete all 4 books in the 3-6th grade years. This is a total of 432 verses! As you can see, this is quite an accomplishment. We will be hanging a plaque that names of Timothy winners will be added to each year.

We have a few special events that we would like to invite families to attend. On Wednesday, April 11, Jim Baron, a Christian illusionist will be with us. He will present a Gospel message through illusions. This should be a fun evening for the whole family! His program will begin at 7:00pm in the Worship Center. Wednesday, April 18th will be our Closing Awards Ceremony. Again, we will begin in the Worship Center at 6:30. We will have a time of fellowship and pizza in the Big House following the awards. If your child attends Awana, please make plans to attend!

We want to thank our many volunteers who make Awana possible each week! They are incredible, and we want them to know how much we appreciate them.

Serving Him, Brad and Carmen Fleck
