Principal’s Post-it Notes Nate WeaverHello Wolves!

It’s been a busy month here at school. I can’t believe we’re over halfway done with September! We had our first run with AR (Accelerated Reader) and I’m happy to say that most of the students had it done before the deadline. Reading is a life skill that we will continue to improve upon with all students.

Homecoming week was here and is gone. I was impressed with the hall decorations; the students did a nice job. The week was full of school spirit and fun for all. The dance went off without a hitch and I think the kids had a great time.

We start teacher evaluations this month. All the teachers will be formally evaluated at least once a year and any teacher that is not tenured will be evaluated 2 times per year. I try to pop into each classroom once a day or a couple of times per week and am always proud to see the amount of work going on in our classrooms. Our teachers do a great job!

I have the opportunity to attend Crisis Training next week in Kearney. While we hope that everyone stays safe, there is protocol and ways to help youth cope with crisis type issues. I hope we will never need the training, but it is a good tool to have at our disposal.

Good luck to all the participants in activities for the next month. We have many kids participating in Volleyball, Football, Cross Country, FFA, One-Acts as well as activities outside of the school. Have a great month, wolf pack!

Counselor’s Corner Whitney BilleterSenior Seminar is in full swing! We began the year out by taking a personality test, Enneagram Test. This showed the students their strengths as well as their fears. By them understanding what their best and worst traits are will come in hand personally and professionally. The more you know about yourself, the more you’re able to assert what you really need in life, relationships or otherwise. This test segued into researching career options. From the information we obtained from the personality test as well as our own career dreams the students began researching career paths. The website www.mynextmove.com was extremely helpful. Students were able to get more insight on specific jobs – education needed, colleges geared for that career, skills and abilities needed, job opportunities state to state, salary and much more. In the months to come I hope to get the students out into the real world by job shadowing their career of choice! I don’t expect that these seniors will have their whole lives planned out before graduation. My hope is that by taking these steps to get to know more about themselves and their career interest, they will be able to start to consider their options and the endless possibilities that are out there for them!

Apply2College Day - October 8th College reps will be set up in the gym from 8:00-10:00, allowing seniors a chance to visit with them.

The morning will conclude with applying to colleges online and documenting it in our photo booth!

BerMis FFA members Hear Dr. Temple Grandin Speak Friday, August 24, 2018, 12 of the BerMis FFA members traveled to Kearney,

Nebraska and joined 2,000 other students and industry professionals, to hear Dr. Temple Grandin speak. Dr. Grandin’s key points were very influential as she talked about autism & handling animals safely and efficiently. Dr. Grandin is a professor at Colorado State University and has done many studies on animals, and has created chutes to make working with cattle more efficient. Dr. Temple Grandin has autism and it was very interesting for all of us to hear about how she sees the world in pictures and how she understands animals’ behavior in her mind.

Students noted that this experience was very interesting and we all walked away thankful that we got to go and hear her speak. Cailey Grabenstein from Bertrand said, “I learned more information about how animals look at things differently than people. People with autism look at things differently also. They learn more through pictures and are more sensitive to things happening around us.” Jennica Dannehl from Bertrand also stated that, “Dr. Grandin is very smart and sees things differently than we do. It was interesting hearing what she has experienced throughout her life.” McKayla Meyer commented, “Autistic people think in pictures. That’s why she could notice the little details that we wouldn’t.” All in all, the BerMis FFA members enjoyed the opportunity to hear this world renowned woman speak.

2018 Lady Wolves Volleyball By Head Coach Carrie TrompkeThe girls are off to a great start going 4-4 in the first 3 weeks of regular season.  We started off the season with 3 of the top teams in our conference.  Though we came up short to Axtell, Overton and Pleasanton, we played hard and never gave up.  We have since rebounded and are on a great run!  We won both games at the Arapahoe Triangular beating Maywood-Hayes Center in 3 sets and then knocked off Arapahoe on their brand new home court in 2 sets.  At the 9-11 Tournament in Loomis we went 2-1, beating Shelton, coming up short to

Elwood, then rebounded to defeat Maxwell and earn 3rd place medals! The girls are very appreciative of the support the student body has been giving them at their games.  Crowd involvement is a huge advantage and we are so thankful for the parents and students that make the week night road trips to support us!!

The girls are looking forward to getting involved with our upcoming players and will be putting on Saturday Morning Volleyball Skills for all Loomis girls in grades 3rd – 8th starting September 22nd through October 13th from 9:00-10:30 at the school.  We are excited to get the younger players involved with our program! We have a tough schedule ahead of us and are looking forward to the Conference Tournament the second week of October.  Janessa and I are very proud of how the girls are representing Loomis!!

Homecoming Hit! By Olivia O’Clair

The week of September 9th was Homecoming for our Loomis Wolves. We started the week with our annual Sunday night car bash, put on by the class of 2019 at Booe’s Salvage in Atlanta. The high school tore a car apart before sitting around a bonfire and chatting in many mixed groups. The fun continued the next day, as Pajama Day made Monday much more fun. Everyone was dressed in smiles and their most comfortable clothes. Tuesday was Meme Day for the high school, and many outfits caused fits of laughter. Wednesday was a blast from the past with Time Warp Day. Students chose a time period and matched the styles of the 50s, 80s, Roman times, prehistoric era, war times, etc. The week progressed with Music Genre Day, which allowed students to dress as a famous singer or band. We had punk rockers and country artists wandering the hall all day. Our school spirit climaxed on Friday, homecoming night. The entire school gathered for a pep rally as the band performed a drum line on trash cans, the senior parents performed a skit (which is hilarious, and everyone should watch on the Loomis School Facebook page), the senior class continued the theme of the homecoming decorations--making the 2018 Homecoming Games come to life, and everyone sang our school song, “Hurray for the Kelly and White” and continued the tradition of our class chants.

At the football game Friday night, our girls came in strong to support the boys with big signs to brandish after every great play. Our Homecoming Royalty was announced after the game, with Isaac Wahls and Olivia O’Clair as first attendants, and Aaron Dow and McKayla Meyer as king and queen. The fun wasn’t over quite yet, though, as the dance had yet to start. Students were allowed to choose music instead of hiring a DJ for the night, and many smiles were seen as kids took to the floor. Overall, it was a very busy, very memorable, and very fun homecoming.
