These aspiring young ranchers and farmers are learning best practices in local food production, and have selected and hand-raised all of the livestock presented at the Fair to be judged, graded and sold. This auction is their marketplace! SATURDAY, AUGUST 5, 2017 10 AM HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE? Your purchase at the Junior Livestock Auction supports local youth agriculture education and is an investment in the future of agriculture right here in Santa Clara County. Profits from the sale of animals are typically reinvested in next year’s projects, or saved for future educational expenses. The bid amount accepted by the auctioneer is the amount the winning bidder pays per pound for the animal. Buyers also pay additional processing, cutting and wrapping charges from their choice of processor. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE AS A BUYER? Buyers at the auction may be individuals, groups of individuals, or businesses. Putting a group together to share the cost is a great way to fill your freezer with high-quality meat while also supporting the youth who have put so much work into their projects over the past year. If you would like to support the auction but do not wish to have the meat, you may also choose to have your meat donated directly to Second Harvest Food Bank.
