I’m headed to Tucson at the end of the month. I do enjoy traveling.” You can’t blame Scott, who retired in July after being the tireless zoning officer in Watertown for the past 23 years. A resident of Reading, Scott said she won’t miss the drive down Route 128 or across Route 2, but she does think she will miss her job—eventually. “I don’t miss it today,” she said. “I have enjoyed it immensely. I have really had a wonderful time. I’ve met an awful lot of wonderful people. Watertown has been my second home. You are there most of the day and I got to know an awful lot of nice people - business people as well as the residents of the town.” Reflecting on her tenure, Town Manager Michael Driscoll said Scott’s efforts improved the quality of life for residents and that her diligent dedication over the past two decades years will be “be long remembered and is very much appreciated.” Town Councilor Stephen Corbett, who has served on the town’s budget and fiscal oversight committee for years with Scott, said he enjoyed working with her. “I really have a lot of respect for her,” Corbett said. “I think she did an excellent job. It’s a tough job and I think she was very competent and always treated people very well. She always got back to you. She was very pleasant to work with. Personally I did like her very much.” He also said that he thinks it will be tough to find somebody to replace her. Traffic Commissioner John Bartley agreed, saying he has always been highly regarded for her knowledge and ability. “She is a very smart woman,” Bartley said. “She had great knowledge of the zoning of the town and the back history of certain areas and the buildings that were there. She wasn’t afraid, in my opinion, to object to something that she thought as not proper or was in violation of the zoning code. I like that.” Planning Board Head Clerk Ingrid Marchesano describes Scott as a wonderful, caring and unselfish person who has been great to the citizens of Watertown. “She was very diplomatic,” Marchesano said. “She didn’t insult anyone and she was always helpful. I’m going to miss a good friend and I think we are missing her here a lot. Hopefully they find somebody soon but it will be hard for the person to replace her. We will miss her big time.” Scott said every day was interesting and that there was never a dull moment. “I’ve helped people go through the process of the board of appeals and I enjoyed doing that from start to finish,” she said. “I enjoyed meeting all of the wonderful people in Watertown. They have treated me wonderfully.”   Laura Paine can be reached at [email protected]. Copyright 2011 Watertown TAB & Press. Some rights reserved
