ARRIVAL AND CHECK-IN

ALL vehicles are to enter at the speedway’s main entrance on Labonte, off Highway 114. (Carpooling is strongly encouraged to reduce traffic congestion.) Drivers will be directed to the

appropriate parking area, from which passengers will embark and walk to their campsites. Equipment vehicles can be taken to campsites but should be moved to the parking lot after unloading. One trailer can remain at the campsite. Soon after arrival, a representative of each unit should report to Headquarters to submit a

revised unit roster (if necessary), obtain wristbands and additional program materials, and rectify any outstanding balance of fees.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

RVs are strongly discouraged because no hookups or dumping stations are available at the speedway. RVs will NOT be permitted in the campsites. No pets or alcohol allowed.

CAMPSITE COMPETITION

Each unit will select its own camping area. Campsites will not be assigned this year. Troops

are encouraged to erect gateways and to display patrol flags at their campsite entrances. Commissioners will recognize units with the best gateway and with the best patrol flag. Winners will be announced at the Stage Show.

STAGE SHOW TALENT ACTS

Scouts (ALL levels) can audition for the talent portion of the Stage Show with the top six acts performing Saturday night. Performances can be by individuals or groups and can be any type of “G-rated” entertainment. Each act is limited to three minutes. Audition times will be pre-arranged and announced at registration.

FIRE / FUELS

NO GROUND FIRES ARE ALLOWED! Charcoal, propane, or liquid fuel stoves are permitted. Charcoal cooking requires a grill with a lid. Review liquid fuel information in The Guide to Safe Scouting. Only adults are allowed to handle

liquid fuels. All stoves and lanterns must be filled on the parking lot. Whenever fire is burning in a campsite, an adult must be in attendance to oversee safety measures. Any fire that gets out of hand should immediately and properly be contained; and the incident, no matter how minor, should be reported to Camporee Headquarters.

FOOD PREPARATION

Simple meals like one-pot or aluminum foil meals are suggested to minimize preparation and clean-up time and to conserve water.

Longhorn Council, Boy Scouts of America www.longhorncouncil.org

WATER

EACH UNIT SHOULD BRING SELF-SUFFICIENT AMOUNTS OF WATER (preferably in non-

disposable containers) because the on-site water supply is not readily accessible at each campsite. Some water buffaloes will be situated in both the camping and the program areas. However, attendees should carry canteens, camel backs, or water bottles during the event since activities and campsites will be spread across many acres.

GARBAGE

Please keep the Camporee grounds clean! Although limited trash receptacles will be available throughout the program and headquarter areas, ALL UNITS ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY HOME GARBAGE FROM THEIR CAMPSITES. In addition, attendees are asked to pick up

and properly dispose of any trash found on the Camporee grounds.

LATRINES

Portable toilets will be on-site. A few flush toilets and showers will also be available.

FIRST AID

A First Aid Station, staffed by qualified emergency medical response personnel, will be located near Headquarters. All injuries must be reported to the First Aid Station. If the injury involves a child, an adult must accompany that youth to and from the First Aid Station and, if necessary, the hospital.

A completed “Personal Health History and Parent Authorization” form is required for each participant. These health forms are to be kept on the premises by the unit and taken to the first aid facility if treatment is needed. The medical information is required if local hospital or emergency services become necessary.

TRADING POST

A Trading Post with Scout goods and Camporee collectibles will be open on Saturday.

WORSHIP SERVICE

An inter-faith worship service will be held at 9:00 AM on Sunday. The collection from this service will be donated to the World Friendship Fund. Catholic Mass will be held Saturday night following the Camporee Show.

TARRANT AREA FOOD BANK

Do a Good Turn Daily! Bring food items to the Council Camporee to donate to the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

A large number of people will be required to staff administrative and activity areas of Camporee. If you are interested in helping, please complete a Camporee Staff Volunteer Application Form and promptly return it to JOHN PARK via e-mail ([email protected]), mail (109 Lakeview Court, Weatherford, TX

76087) or fax (817-341-3320). For more information, call John Park at 817-994-2536 (cell).

PUSHMOBILE DERBY

WHEN: Saturday, November 12 th, 2016 Check-in at 9:30am, races start at 10am

COST: This is a FREE event! You provide the Pushmobile, we provide the race!

GENERAL INFORMATION: The Pushmobile Derby is a race using cars built by a Boy Scout Patrol or Cub Scout Den and their parents. This gives the boys and parents an opportunity to work on a project together, which is important in Scouting. The concept is for a group of six boys to build and race the car. The course is set up in 100-200 foot intervals with the six boys paired up as 2-man pusher/driver teams. Two Scouts start, one is the pusher, and one is the driver. When they arrive at the “Change Point,” they change places, the pusher becoming the driver and the driver becoming the pusher. They will push to the next “Change Point,” where two more boys take over, swapping positions at their “Change Point” as the first pair did and so on. Teams may consist of Scouts from one or more Packs or Troops. If you need assistance in forming a team, please let us know and we will try to assist you in teaming up with other Packs or Troops. RULES: 1. Car wheels must not be over 15 inches in diameter, no spoked wheels. 2. Car must have a minimum of four wheels, and four wheels must be touching the ground. 3. Car MUST have a brake accessible for use by the driver. 4. A seat belt must be utilized by the driver. 5. All drivers MUST WEAR PROTECTIVE HEAD GEAR, such as a football helmet or bike

helmet. Elbow pads are recommended but not required. 6. Car may NOT be used by more than one team. 7. Boys will race in heats by Rank level. If ranks are combined to form a team, the team races

with the highest rank on the team. 8. All participants in the youth categories must be registered Cub or Boy Scouts. 9. Teams must have a minimum of two team members and a maximum of six team members. 10. A car number will be given at registration. DO NOT paint a number on the car. 11. At the change overs, the change must be completed before leaving the Change Point. 12. At the turn-around line, the car must have all wheels cross the line. 13. Cars may be made by any design but remember the above rules. 14. Youth teams may consist of boys from more than one Pack or Troop! 15. Each team must have at least one adult present. 16. Registration deadline is Friday, November 4th and should be turned into the Council office

or sent to Debbie Kerrigan [email protected]

Awards will be provided.
