Where to use ChikaraFor use on surfaces not intended to bear vegetation, permeable surfacesoverlying soil or on hard surfaces composed of gravel or railway ballast. This wide variety of amenity situations, offers a high level of versatility andcost savings.
Areas include:
Fence lines Cemeteries Park obstacles & furniture
Highways & drives Industrial sites Electricity sub stations
Oil & gas storage sites Housing estates Railway tracks
Sewerage & water works Power stations Golf courses & schools
Chikara can be used effectively BEFORE the laying of such surfaces astennis courts and asphalt driveways. Treat immediately before laying downthe surface to prevent weeds germinating and breaking through thesurface.
Note: If weeds have emerged at the time of application, Chikara shouldbe mixed with the recommended rate of glyphosate, depending on theweed size and species present.
Chikara cannot be used on non-porous, man made surfaces such aspaved areas, concrete, tarmac car parks and footpaths AND must not beused around non-target amenity vegetation.
Season-long controlJust one application of Chikara at the labelled rate of 150g/ha can giveup to 5 months control…and anecdotal evidence shows even longerperiods of control are achieved.
MAPP 14189. Contains 25% w/w flazasulfuron (250g/kg)
Chikara is a systemic and residualgranular herbicide for the control ofannual and perennial weeds on natural or permeable surfaces notintended to bear vegetation Pre-emergent and early post emergent* activity Systemic and residual mode of action Long lasting and broad spectrum weed control Easy to mix water dispersible granules Low application rate for cost-effective control
Long lasting control
How Chikara worksChikara is absorbed by the plant roots and shoots and is translocatedthrough the xylem and phloem to the meristematic zone where it inhibitsacetolactate synthase, a key enzyme involved in amino-acid synthesis.
Following application, Chikara moves into the upper surface layers of thesoil but does not inhibit seed germination. When plant roots and shootsemerge from the seed they absorb the active ingredient from thesurrounding soil. The seedlings may at first appear to develop normally untilthey reach the 2-3 leaf stage. Many affected weed seedlings may neveremerge above soil level but those that do will exhibit yellowing orreddening of the leaves, become necrotic and die rapidly.
Because of Chikara’s broad spectrum of activity and its long lastingcontrol, initial ‘knock-down’ of the weed is achieved, followed by a longperiod of residual control of both broad leaved weeds and grasses. Theproducts versatility is increased by the fact that it can be tank mixed withapproved formulations of glyphosate to control established weeds.
POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL PROFILEChikara combines effective weed control with operatorsafety and low environmental risk. It has both a lowapplication rate and low level of active ingredient yet
still provides excellent efficacy in controlling weeds. Chikara presents anegligible risk to birds, bees, mammals, fish and aquatic invertebrateswhen used as directed on the product label.
SUSTAINABLE USE DIRECTIVE 2012Chikara applications: Sustainable and integrated use of pesticides Promotion of low input regimes Reducing risks and impact on human health and the
environment Provisions to protect water
Risk reduction Cost effective and low risk
alternative to repeatstrimming or multipleglyphosate spraying
 No HAV’s* to record
 Low level active ingredientloading
HSE requires employers toreduce risk wherever possible
 Full product support
 Onsite training if required
Avoid spray drift and treatment of shallow rooted specimens. Do not sprayclose to non-target vegetation, i.e valued trees, shrubs, shallow rootedplants and flower beds.
Chikara is a LERAP B pesticide – do not allow spray from a knapsack to fallwithin 1 metre of the top of a bank of any static or flowing water body.Aim away from the water.

How to use ChikaraApplied at any time of the year. However best resultsare achieved when sprayed in early spring beforeweeds germinate. Where the site has established weedsChikara should be tank-mixed with an appropriateamount of a glyphosate-based herbicide. Apply whenweeds are small and actively growing.
RATE OF APPLICATION
KNAPSACK USE
It is recommended that the knapsack is fitted with a 1bar flow regulator + Polijet ANO.6 deflector nozzle (0.5mswath width). Applications should be made at aforward walking speed of 3mph. This combination willdeliver 150 litres/ha of spray solution applying a coarse, low drift spray quality. Each 15 litre of spray solution willcover 1,000 sq.m.
Ensure that the knapsack or power sprayer tanks arethoroughly washed out with an ammonium basedcleaning agent before undertaking any other sprayingoperation as traces of Chikara may cause harm toother susceptible plants sprayed later.
Where the site has established weeds, Chikara shouldbe tank-mixed with an appropriate amount of aglyphosate based herbicide. Apply when weeds aresmall and actively growing.
* Nozzle and regulator packs can be purchased fromRigby Taylor.

PACK DETAILS
Pack sizes: 15g and 150 gPack coverage: 50g bottle treats 3,333 sq.m
150g bottle treats 10,000 sq.m
FLEXIBILITY OF USE
Chikara offers local authorities and contractors a positive way of reducing costs, whilst stillmaintaining effective weed control.
Comparing the costs of season long control of weeds with Chikara, compared to multiple visits forstrimming and/or repeat spray applications of glyphosate, there are potentially major savings tobe made.
Application/Operation Cost (average purchase/labour cost)
1 x Chikara + glyphosate* spray treatment 4 pence/sq. metre
3 x glyphosate only treatments 7 pence/sq. metre
12 x strimming operations 84 pence/sq. metre
Compared to strimming a massive saving of 0.80p/sq.metre or £8,000/hectare is achieved!
