allowed during the night.

Transition
• Only registered athletes may enter.
• Enter through your dedicated gate provided to transition.
• Bike check: legal bars, frame, wheels, bike numbers
• Helmet check: snug strap, no cracks, numbers attached You can take your
helmet and bring it back on race day. Your helmet can either go inside the
bike bag or be attached to the bike.
• Bike shoes, glasses, helmet, and other bike equipment can be placed on the
bike.
• To add any equipment to the bike, you must obtain approval from the Head
Referee up until 10 minutes after the end of the Athletes‘ Briefing.

• Helmet(it is allowed to leave helmet on the bike)

• Socks

Athletes will not be allowed back in transition until 16:30 h.
Check-in procedures – Race day
• Arrive with all decals in place!

• Bike mechanical service and bike pumps will be available in the transition
area on race morning.
• Eye glasses: Glasses must be labeled with the athlete’s race number. There
will be a glasses table at the swim start and exit
• Portable toilets will be available in transition and line up area
• Swim-cap and timing-chip to be picked up in
transition (No Athlete Lounge)

Athlete line-up:
• Line up near entry to pontoon
• Jog to the start area
• Enter water when instructed
• Swim to start line

• Neoprene swim caps below the official swim cap are allowed
• No neoprene vests
• No gloves
• Socks are allowed. This will be a wetsuit mandatory swim.
• Compression calves are allowed below the wetsuit
Start Procedure
Athletes in position:
• The start can be given any time after the TD
announces ”On your mark”
• Air horn blast
• The race starts
• After race starts, athletes must move forward
• Athletes not moving forward at the start will receive
a time penalty of 60 seconds in TA1

Swim course
• Thursday May 2nd at 08:00
✓Water temperature: 13.8 ºC
✓Air temperature: 13.0 ºC
• Wetsuit mandatory
• 1 lap 3000 meters
• Due to cold water conditions, the swim may be shortened,
and the start waves adjusted accordingly.
Final announcement 07:00 race day.
Swim course
• No warm up area.
• Distance to the first turn buoy 200m
• Keep all the ORANGE buoys to the left and
all the YELLOW buoys to your right
• Take cap, goggles, wetsuit to the bags area, once
you finish the swim and place them inside your bike
bag.
• Wetsuit removal is allowed only at the changing
tents. Stopping at the swim exit path with result a
time penalty

Transition Area 1
• Traditional Bike Racks – numbered
• Orientation boards at the beginning of each row
• Once you finish the Swim, go to the bags area. At the bags area,
there will be volunteers to assist with the removal of the wetsuits:
▪ Take your Bike bag, and put on your Bike gear
▪ All the Swim gear (wetsuit, goggles, Swim cap) goes into the
bag.
▪ Leave the bag in assigned space
▪ There will be tents available per gender
▪ Make sure no equipment is left behind
• Go to your position in the transition area and take your Bike.
Remember to fasten your helmet before taking your bike
• Mount line on the road outside the stadium

• Coaches’area/Special Needs: By the Puente de los
Tirantes Bridge.
▪ Only from this location, coaches and team managers can
supply athletes with their own food and beverages
• Penalty boxes at the far end of the course and in town by
the river.
• Dismount line on the road before reentering the stadium.

• There will be 2 bike aid stations per lap.
• Only discard bottles and litter within littering zones
as indicated by the following signs
• At each aid station, you can find portable toilets
• Aid Stations will be located at 12.2 – 26.8 – 49.7 –
64.3 – 87.2 – 101.8. km

Drafting Rules
An athlete may enter a bike draft zone in the following
circumstances:
• If the athlete enters the draft zone, and progresses
through it within the allotted time in the process of
overtaking;
• For safety reasons;
• 100 meters before and after an aid station or transition
area;
• At an acute turn;
Drafting Rules
Overtaking:
• An athlete is passed when another athlete's front
wheel is ahead of theirs;
• An overtaken athlete must drop out of the draft zone
of the passing athlete by continuously make
rearward progress out of the draft zone of the
passing athlete. Re-passing by an overtaken athlete
prior to dropping out of the draft zone will result in a
drafting violation;
• Overtaken athletes who remain within the draft zone
of the passing athlete for more than the allotted time
will be given a drafting violation;
Blocking Rules
• Athletes must keep to the side of the course and not
create a blocking incident;
• Blocking is where an athlete who is behind cannot
pass due to the leading athlete being poorly placed
on the course;
• Athletes seen blocking by a Technical Official will
incur a time penalty of at the next bike penalty box.
Bike Infringements
• During the Bike segment, Technical Officials can show 2
different cards (blue and yellow)
• In case you receive a Blue card, you have to stop at the
next penalty box for 5 minutes.
• In case you receive a Yellow card, you have to stop at
the next penalty box for 1 minute.

Advice of Penalties
• How do you know if you need to
serve a penalty?
• The official will do the following –• Sound a whistle or horn
• Show a BLUE / card
• Call your number
• Advise you of the PENALTY
• If you are shown a RED
CARD, you may be
disqualified
Penalties
• Stop in the next Penalty Box and must stay there for
5 minutes
• It is the athletes responsibility to stop in the next
Penalty Box. Failing to do this will result in DSQ.
• The penalties are accumulated. A third drafting offence
will lead to a DSQ1st & 2nd offences: 5 minutes in the Bike Penalty Box3rd offence: DSQ!

Caution signal: three sharp whistles and red flags
Bike course – Mechanical Services
There will be 3 motorbikes as “neutral mechanical assistance”
to assist with repairs whenever possible. i.e. replacement of
tubes, tires, chains etc. Please note that we will do our best to
serve. If you need assistance, please do not move from the
location you are in order to be tracked.

• Dismount line on road outside stadium.
• Give your bike to the bike catcher.
• Proceed to the changing tent without going into transition
spot.
▪ Take your Run bag, and put on your Run gear
▪ All the Bike gear goes into the bag.
▪ Leave the bag in assigned space

The penalty box is for infringements in: Swim, TA1, TA2, run (e.g.: Mount before mount line, dismount after dismount line, littering etc.)
(Transition will be videotaped for infringements)

• If you incur a penalty, you will find your number plus a
letter code indicating the nature of the infraction:
D = Dismount Line Violation
M = Mount Line violation E = Equipment Outside Box
L = Littering V = Other Violations
For example:
• 12D → athlete #12 received a time penalty for a dismount line violation
• 12x2ME → athlete #12 received 2 time penalties for mount line and equipment
outside the box violations

• To avoid congestion: go to recovery area after having
passed the line. Food and drinks available there.
• 1st recovery in the post finish area, 2nd in University
Pavilion

• Bring your wristband

Anti-Doping Control
• Photo ID is needed for every athlete that is selected
for test
Team Medical Access
• Only one accredited team medical person will be
allowed to enter the medical tent, after ITU Medical
Delegate’s permission.
Coaches areas
Accreditation
• Coaches accreditations will only be distributed to those coaches
who’s National Federations registered them through the on-line
system
• Every coaches has to collect accreditation to be able to enter the
venue.

• Official results will be posted on a board at the main Recovery
Area as well as at the Expo and will be published on

• The Awards Ceremony will take place at Alameda 19:30
• First three athletes of each category are requested to be next to
the stage 15 minutes before. Be punctual as we must start
on time

Ambush Marketing
PLEASE OBSERVE THE AMBUSH MARKETING RULES
Ambush marketing is defined as:
“Deliberately using the opportunity of live television and
media photographers to acquire additional exposure for your
sponsor product, apparel or brand.”
The consequence for this behaviour is that the athlete will
immediately forfeit their prize money for that event.
