EMAS Offshore is the operating arm of Ezra Holdings and EMAS Offshore Construction. It is a global offshore contractor providing construction, marine, production and well intervention support services to the industry. LMG retains its autonomy within this structure and the services provided are normally outside those of the Ezra group. LMC trade out of its main office in the City of London UK. LMC Asia Pacific Pte Ltd was founded in 2008 and is based in Singapore.

ELEVEN ExTERNAL TURRETS have been designed by LMC to date, with three more currently under development.

LMC TURRET MOORING

TURRET MOORING SYSTEMS: LMC IS A LEADING DESIGNER OF ExTERNAL TURRET MOORING SYSTEMS The Bualuang oilfield, situated offshore Thailand, is

operated by Salamander Energy and has been producing since 2008. Early in 2013, LMC was awarded an EPC

contract by Teekay Offshore for supply of the Turret and Mooring System for the Suksan Salamander FSO. LMC scope

also comprised geotechnical survey investigation, site metocean data assessment, and vessel integration design. In addition, LMC

designed and supplied the complete process swivel assembly, with an electrical slip ring provided to LMC specification.

The Suksan Salamander FSO is permanently moored by an LMC external cantilever turret, allowing the vessel to weathervane 360 degrees in 60m

water depth. The riser system comprises one export water (6”), one import production (6”) and a spare production (6”) riser. The FSO storage capacity is

480,000 barrels with peak production at the rate of 20,000 barrels per day.The turret is designed ABS class, and to withstand a maximum

environmental condition of 7.5m significant wave height. The unit is initially designed for 15 years’ service life without dry-docking.

The turret was fabricated in the EMAS-owned SOFEL shipyard in Vietnam, and delivered to the vessel conversion yard in China at the

end of 2013 for integration on to the FSO early in 2014.The Suksan Salamander FSO was installed at the Bualuang field

in mid-2014, and has been producing successfully since then.

LMC designed the complete turret mooring system, which was built in the EMAS-owned SOFEL shipyard in Vietnam. The FPSO, renamed

“Perisai Kamelia” was hooked up in july 2013. The FPSO is capable of handling 100 MMscfd of gas, 1000bpd of condensates and 500bpd of water. The Early Production System was based on the redeployment of the Lewek Arunothai, an existing Floating

Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility owned by EMAS. The FPSO was converted to include an external

turret mooring system, and is moored in the vicinity of the Well Head Platform in approximately 55m of water.

LMC also designed and supplied the complete swivel stack for the turret, comprising in-house designs for

the toroidal and axial process swivels, and a low voltage slip ring provided by Trolex of the UK.

LMC was contracted in 2009 to design their first internal turret for EMAS Offshore Construction & Production who

provided the FPSO for the Chim Sao Field. The Chim Sao field is in the Nam Com Son Basin, offshore Vietnam

and is owned by Premier (53.125%), Santos (31.875%) and Petro Vietnam (15%). As well as assisting EMAS in sourcing all turret equipment, mooring line components

and risers, LMC assisted with the supervision of the turret fabrication and offshore installation.

The turret and mooring system is designed to be permanently moored on station during a 7.9m Hs environment (100yr storm). The mooring system consists of a 3x3 chain catenary configuration.The riser system comprises 7 risers and 2 umbilicals for the Chim Sao and future Dua fields. LMC designed the riser system configuration as well as the full detailed design of the Mid- Water Arches and Gravity Bases. The turret and mooring system was classed by ABS.

ENI – AQUILA FPSO, AdrIAtIc, ItALyLMC designed for Saipem (an ENI Company) a large external bow-mounted column turret mooring system for use with a converted Aframax size Floating Production Storage Offloading vessel. The turret accommodates 3 import risers, 3 gas lift risers and 3 umbilicals. It also includes a chain jack system to pull in the mooring lines and risers, allowing full flexibility for future riser additions that are often required for operations on an FPSO. Construction commenced in Q2 2009, and the vessel was deployed offshore in Q1 2012. The mooring system is designed for a water depth of 815m. Stationkeeping is by way of a chain-wire system to account for the high water depth, using a 4 x 2 mooring system configuration, and is capable of surviving conditions including 8.8m waves. The Aquila turret and mooring system is Classed by RINA.

The World’s first permanently moored FSRU was installed in August 2013. LMC designed this external

turret for use on a converted LNG carrier with a capacity of 137,000m3. The turret structure is based on that for the Farwah FPSO, with modifications to allow for the configuration of the LNG vessel. The design includes

large capacity gas swivels with flexibility for optical and electrical paths. The FSRU is an LNG receiving terminal located

in open sea 12 miles offshore Livorno (Tuscany) in a water depth of 120m. The mooring is designed for an environmental condition

including 8.2m waves. The turret system comprises a 6 x 1 mooring configuration. The system is Classed by RINA.

During 2008 and 2009 LMC designed an external turret mooring for Vinashin Offshore Industries. The turret was constructed in Nam Trieu Shipyard, Hai Phong, Vietnam for the PTSC FSO “Bach Ho”. The vessel operates in the Bach Ho field on the continental shelf of Vietnam in the South China Sea, 200 miles from shore. This was the first FSO built inside Vietnam and a significant project for entry into emerging markets there. It is a new build tanker with a displacement of 150,000 dwt. The FSO was installed and first oil reached in November 2010. The FSO has a cantilever turret system with a 9 mooring line asymmetric mooring pattern to allow for the seasonal directionality of the monsoons. LMC also performed the detailed design of the riser system, comprising of two bonded risers coupled together. Due to the large currents experienced in the region a riser tethering system was required. The turret and mooring system was Classed by ABS.

M3NErGy – cPOc FSO, MALAySIA

In 2008–2009 LMC designed an external turret mooring system to attach to the bow of the tanker Difko Susanne for M3nergy. The Floating Storage Vessel was renamed the Ratu Songkhla upon completion. The FSO is installed in 50m water depth at the JDA Block B-17, offshore Malaysia. The operator

is Carigali-PTTEPI Operation Company Sdn Bhd (CPOC). The turret mooring system comprises a 6 leg chain mooring system, capable of

holding the vessel on station for a 5.1m Hs cyclonic environment. The turret system is similar to the nearby, LMC designed, Carigali-Triton Operating Company (CTOC) FSO. Processed hydrocarbon

fluids come through a single 8” riser and axial swivel to the vessel, the latter also being designed and supplied by LMC.

In August 2001 LMC secured a contract with Doris Engineering of Paris for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of an external turret mooring system. The turret was designed to fit the bow of a new-build 900,000bbl Floating Production Storage & Offloading vessel owned by Exmar Offshore, Belgium, and built at the Izar-Fene yard in Spain. The FPSO receives oil from a field offshore Libya operated by Compagnie Petroliere Total Libye (CPTL) which was the Libyan subsidiary of TotalFinaElf. The FPSO has been in operation since 2003. The turret was moored using a 3 x 3 all chain arrangement in a water depth of 83m. The turret includes a single 10” production riser and HV power cable. The turret and mooring system is capable of remaining on station during an 8.8m storm environment. The LMC design was the first of its kind for the company and allows the turret to be delivered to the hull fabrication yard as a fully commissioned item, thus splitting work between the hull and turret fabrication yards that can be geographically remote from one another. These advantages have been well publicised in the technical press. The turret and mooring system was Classed by Bureau Veritas.

In 2000, LMC was awarded a contract to design and assist in procurement ofspecialist components for an external cantilever turret on the Cakerawala“Puteri” FSO, offshore Thailand/Malaysia. The vessel collects condensate from the large offshore gas field development by CTOC (Caragali, Triton Operating Company). Unlike Soroosh and Mubaraka turrets, which were installed on converted tankers, this was installed in a newbuild hull. The turret was fabricated by Samsung of Korea, who also built the hull. The FSO was connected to the mooring system in April 2002. The turret mooring system is designed to maintain station during a 5.8m Hs environment in a water depth of 55m. The mooring system comprises of 6 x 1 all chain system, with a single 6” condensate riser and axial swivel utilised for production. The Cakerawala FSO was classed by ABS.

In 2000 a contract was entered into with Shell Exploration in The Hague to design and procure components for an external turret mooring system for the 330,000

dwt Shell tanker “Lanistes”. After completion of LMC’s design in London and procurement jointly between LMC and Shell of

the specialist components for it, the turret was fabricated in Sembawang’s shipyard in Singapore. It was installed on the vessel renamed “Soorena”. The Floating Storage Unit was connected to the mooring system offshore Iran in

November 2001 under LMC supervision. It was then handed over to the operators of the field, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). The Soorena served the Soroosh

Oilfield and also received oil from the Nowrooz Field. The combined production forthese two fields placed them amongst the largest offshore fields in the world. The turret

mooring system consists of an 8 x 2 all chain mooring in 46m water depth. The FSU also includes a novel ‘double wave’ riser arrangement to accommodate the shallow water and large excursions. The basic design of the riser system was performed by LMC and incorporates 2 x

15” unbonded risers joined over their length. The Soorena was replaced at the field by a larger FSU in 2010, after 10 years successful production. The Soorena was Classed by Lloyds.

LMC was awarded a contract with Crescent Petroleum of Sharjah UAE in 1990 for the design of an external turret mooring system for their Mubarak Field, Sharjah, UAE. LMC assisted Crescent in sourcing and purchasing a suitable tanker for conversion to a floating storage and offloading vessel (FSO) and then carried out conceptual and detailed engineering of a turret mooring system. The system was then fabricated in the Emirates under the supervision of LMC. Specialist components were purchased by Crescent in accordance with LMC’s technical specifications. Until 2010 the FSU Mubaraka operated successfully since its installation in summer 1992. The design of its mooring system has been the basis of subsequent LMC designs. The Mubaraka was Classed by Bureau Veritas.

LMC designed a spread mooring system for use by Petrofac to provide an FPSO for production offshore Malaysia in 60m water depth.

LMC designed a spread mooring system for use by Santa Fe Snyder (now Devon Energy) to provide an FSO for production on the Carauna Field, offshore Brazil in very shallow water (15m). LMC was also contracted by the conversion yard FSL in Portsmouth UK to carry out detailed design of the conversion of the vessel to a FSO (Floating, Storage Offloading vessel).

In 2005, LMC completed detailed design, equipment specification and installation engineering for a spread moored FSO, offshore Malaysia on behalf of MISC. This included vessel mounted chainstopper strengthening, loading balconies, loading hose analyses and specification of moorings, chainstoppers, hoses, winches and installation equipment.

In 2006 LMC completed the detailed design of the spread mooring for the Cendor FSO.Located offshore Malaysia this work was performed for MISC in Malaysia. Scope also included detailed design of loading and offloading balconies as well as structural reinforcement for chainstoppers.

Under an ongoing co-operation agreement with Saipem’s leased FPSO business unit, LMC performed preliminary mooring design and installation engineering for this large spread moored unit installed offshore Brazil in 2007.

Assisted client with verification of the mooring and riser systems. Attended as oil company representative offshore Nigeria throughout preparation of offshore moorings and for hook-up of FPSO to moorings and risers.

Specification of deck mounted spread mooring and installation equipment for spread moored newbuild FPU on behalf of DORIS engineering.

LMC has developed a detailed design for a standard CALM Buoy for mooring of FSOs at offshore fields or for loading or offloading oil products in near-shore locations at refineries or oil offloading terminals. The CALM Buoy consists of 3 arms; namely mooring arm, product piping arm and counterweight arm. The turntable is supported on a singleslewing bearing. The CALM Buoy is designed for the following: 400 tonnes load from the tanker Flexible chain stopper/skirt design to allow for 6 – 12 mooring legs Water depths up to approximately 120m Environments up to 4.0 – 5.0m Hs, dependent on exact location and configuration

DesIGn

ePIC solutIonLMC are able to offer full EPIC services for CALM Buoy systems via the EZRA organisation in Singapore. EZRA is a publicly quoted company in Singapore and has a 100% holding in LMC’s parent company. They own a fabrication yard in Saigon, Vietnam and also construction vessels able to tow, transport and install a full system, including pipeline. Saigon shipyard has already built other CALM buoys. Alternatively, the Buoyscould be built in any reputable yard familiar with marine and offshore construction.LMC has also developed an in-house design for a CALM Buoy Swivel, and has recently provided a similar unit on the Bualuang FSO turret.

LMC has the capability to perform an independent assessment and determine the most suitable mooring system to be deployed at a given site, taking into account such parameters as Metocean conditions, soil conditions, existing infrastructure, proposed vessel and offloading parameters.LMC can develop the conceptual designs and perform a feasibility study of a variety of alternative mooring systems, and through our own experience and sub-vendor contacts can provide an expert assessment of the cost and schedule involved with each proposal. LMC can then develop the conceptual designs whether the proposed system is a spread moored system or a more complicated internal turret.LMC like to work closely with the Oil Company or Contractor to ensure that the developed design fully meets their requirements.

LMC has an all en-compassing knowledge in mooring system design, including Turret Moorings, Spread Moorings, CALM Buoys, Jetty / Quayside and Vessel Side-by-side Mooring Systems. LMC has designed mooring systems ranging from 17m to 2200m in water depth, and ranging from 6 leg CALM Buoy solutions to 16 leg internal turret moorings systems. Detailed engineering is performed to obtain full Classification Society and Authority approval. Detailed drawings are prepared ready for the fabrication procurement phase. Engineering analysis carried out by LMC will typically cover all aspects from local to global analysis, including full dynamic analysis for strength and fatigue.

LMC provide installation engineering and support for mooring and riser installation campaigns. projects completed in the past range

from conceptual Feed to determine best practice methods, through to detailed engineering and simulations including vessel towing,

sea-keeping, pull-in and hook up operations. LMC also has a wealth of experience during offshore campaigns acting as both turret and

mooring designer and as Client representative.

LMC can perform anchor selection and design for driven piles, suction piles and drag anchors; design includes installation aid design, driving analysis, retrievability and suction assessments.

Eric joined from SBM in Monaco in 2008 where he worked on the Espirito Santa FPSO and the GAP Kikeh Project. At LMC he has conducted structural design analysis and fatigue element analysis for the CPOC FSO for M3nergy, and the OLT FSRU for Saipem and analysis for the POVO Chim Sao FPSO. He leads a team of structural engineers. He was appointed Director in October 2012.

A Graduate of Southampton University, Tim joined the Company in 2006 having worked for several years in the defence sector. In addition to his role as one of LMC’s project managers he is responsible for a wide range of other activities within the company, one of the main areas of focus being the offshore installation of mooring and riser systems. He was appointed Director in January 2012.

As founder of LMC in 1990, Richard has over 35 years industry experience in mooring and turret design. His accomplishments include the conceptual design of mooring systems for twelve floating production systems, detailed design of mooring systems for three floating production vessels, three CALM buoy installations and one fixed loading tower. This work included calculations, project documents and drawings, costings and attendance for installation. He has also specialised in the construction and installation of concrete gravity platforms, marine operations and consultancy to the shipping and insurance industries.

James joined LMC in 2009 and was appointed General Manager of LMC Asia Pacific Pte in March 2012, returning to the UK in early 2014.Whilst at LMC he has performed a wide range of conceptual and detailed structural designs for mooring systems and acted as one of the key turret structural engineers for the Chim Sao FPSO. His particular area of expertise is linear and nonlinear finite element analysis.

A Graduate in Naval Architecture from Southampton University, Nick’s expertise lies in the naval architectural discipline. He is currently project managing some major projects for LMC. He is also experienced in offshore campaigns including turret moorings, riser installation, hook-up and anchor pre-installation. He leads a team of naval architects. He was appointed Director in October 2012.

Ben joined LMC in June 2010 as a Structural Engineer having completed his degree at Southampton University in Civil Engineering. He worked on many of the company’s projects including POVO, LMC’s first internal turret mooring system and cantilever turret mooring systems for the Perisai Kamelia FPSO and the Bualuang FSO moored offshore Thailand in early 2014. He left the UK in June 2014 to head up the LMC office in Singapore.
