LOMBOK POTTERY, CLAY AND TERRACOTAS
PRODUCTION PROCESS
Most Famous Handcrafts from Lombok Island are Potteries, Rattan/Ketak and Pearls Jewellery. In this island making cthose crafts are people skill habit. And there are some central village for each crafts.
CLAYS AND POTTERIES
Penujak (in Central Lombok Regency), Penakak Masbagik (in East Lombok Regency) and Banyumulek are three big central of all kind of potteries you want. In each village included by from 15-25 big suplier. They are suply the craft order from all over the world since it was booming in 80`s era. The main market is North America and Europe.
You do not have to worry about the quality, to produce a craft as the potteries or rattan have unique system. Originally they made by hand but in all of the process has it own standard, to get the best quality result.
RAW MATERIALS The soil for the raw materials is taking from near around the village Penakak as the central pottery village in Lombok Indonesia. The soil need to process by winding circumtances for 3-4 days.
PRODUCTION Almost all of Handcraft in Lombok are home made and handmade by women after the farming work. And the job will share in every home family in our village and capacity about 1000 – 1300 pcs for each suplier in each kind of clay in a week in HOT WEATHER season, but it will down to 600- 700 in RAIN season
POST PRODUCTIONS>> Drying After the pots/clay made it need to get
dry, but do naturally in windy circumtances. We can not burn it, it will make the clay break. This process need from 24 – 30 hours.
>> Burning The Burning process of the clay/pots by arranged the clay/pots then heap by hull of rice then fired. This process takes almost 24 hours for best.
>> Finishing & Retouching
Finishing and retouching need to make the last step, especially about the colour. The colour all natural, they only makes more shine. Usually we used coconut oil or coconut water and tamarind.

RATTAN AND KETAK CRAFTS
To find the crafts which made from rattan or ketak (some tree like grass) in Lombok is very easy.We can say that in every place everyone has the skill to make it. But if we talk about the quality and the business quantity you should go to the main central rattan crafts village. There are some famous rattan crafts village central, like Beleka (be le ke), Tiwu Sesok, and Pejanggik.
But most famous of them was Beleke. In this village if you come someday please do not wonder if you find some women plait the craft while they walk or children do it in their walks to school.

In every villages of crafts production included by 30 – 40 supliers. Their capacity as I have described in my last email 1000-1500 a week in hot season or 500 – 600 in rain season for each suplier. I think 120 suplier x 1000 x 4 = 480.000 pcs in each month is not impossible.
In Lombok there are 4 big pottery central villages in Pottery production, 5 big central villages for rattan crafts production, 3 big central villages for handweaving production, 2 big central villages for carving stone crafts production, 2 big central villages for bamboo and wood crafts central production and 1 biggest jewellery (pearls) production.
