Logo development

Initial list of logos based on a list of values.

values:label does not ruthlessly promote their artists in order to make moneyfrom their identity (exploitation)

label houses a large amount of samplebased music, seen as musical resampling and recycling

Music is generally bass heavy, hybridisations of genres of music - e.g. Dub and garage.

Initial design ideas forlogo name: Subcycle

Page 4: logo development

“subcycle” hand drawn idea development.

Subcycle logo, not working.Don’t want to take this logo name any furtherbecause it seems to have a set image which I’mnot enjoying experimenting with. visuals exhausted. Time to move on.

Page 5: logo development

Initial digitised design ideasfor logo name: Alius. Image/shape is currently not working

strongest resolution,still unfocused, unclearlogo name.

Logo reads:Adidas...

Typefaceis irrelevant

Using simple shape combinations and type, overcoming the problem with the word alias, decision to abreviate to ALS. further developmentwill be to spell alias, as aliius.

shape aspect isworking, too abstractto be a logo.

simpler, effective.

Type treatments for logo name: Alias

Alius logo type treatments

experimenting with some custom typefaces:pur type seems to be working more effectivelythan a mix of type and shapes.

BAL/ Orator std slanted.works well but looks generic.

Facet std. This typeface works. Cleancut andchunky. has an urban feel suited to the label

Page 8: logo development

Alius logo amendments

developmental sketches based on Facet typefacebeginning to pick apart type legibility, in orderto make the logo more recognisable.

Beginning to define a clear problemwith the letter forms and letter spacing.

Page 9: logo development

alius

Alius logo amendments

Typeface: Facet std.the typeface is not legible enough in its original format.

Diagonal cut in the counterslook unneccessary.

Further amendments weremade to the form of theletter S and L in regardsto line weight and symettrybut produced no betterresult.

Counter, unneccessary contributesto overall legibilty.

Counter removedLetter form now appears too fat.

Flattened off diagonalcut - less space between lettersand giving a uniformityto the overall form weight.

Legibility problem is here.

Cuts removed, creates amore substantial letterform. Problem; not legibileas an “a”

creates a more aparantlower case a.

ALIUS Logo shape/ tint treatments.

01.Too many shapes, feels cluttered. 03.This is working. The shape complimentsthe logo & Letterforms.

04.The lightest triangle isappealing, the darker shadesinterfere with how the logo is read.

02.Simple. effective, but too big, takes uptoo much space.

Simple shapes: Circle/Triangle/square.1 colour, various shades.
