GEORGIA COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS

DIVISION PROFILE Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) empowers the arts industry in Georgia and artists around the state to cultivate healthy, vibrant communities that are rich in civic participation, cultural experiences and economic prosperity. As a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Council for the Arts provides grant funding, programs and services statewide that support this vital industry, preserve our cultural heritage and create increased access to high quality arts experiences.

QUARTERLY DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS 1. On July 6, Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) announced the recipients of its

Partner, Project, Arts Education and literary arts grant funding for fiscal year 2017. One hundred and one organizations throughout the state were collectively awarded more than $913 thousand in funding. Funding for operating support (Partner Grant) was awarded to 54 organizations across the state, support for arts projects (Project Grant) was awarded to 25 organizations, 20 organizations received the Arts Education Program Grant and two organizations received funding for the delivery of statewide literary arts programs. (Note: This does not constitute all of GCA’s grantmaking for FY17. Information on the Vibrant Communities Grant will be shared in the next board book.)

2. On September 3, GCA released its new book, Inspired Georgia, at the 2016 AJC Decatur Book Festival. Inspired Georgia celebrates our state’s rich homegrown artistry through spotlighting some of the best and most powerful pieces penned by Georgia poets and images captured by Georgia photographers in recent years. At DBF, editors Judson Mitcham, Michael David Murphy, and Karen Paty presented a session in which they discuss the origins of this collaborative project, the challenges of editing parallel anthologies, and the importance of honoring place as a muse. The session also include a unique exploration of the photographs and poems contained within the book.

3. GCA has published its FY2016 Impact Map, which you can find on the home page of our website. In FY16 GCA directly and indirectly delivered support to 130 of the state’s 159 counties. A total of 2.9 million individual Georgians directly benefitted from the programs and services delivered by GCA’s grantees.

poetry through memorization and performance of the written word. It incorporates the dynamic aspects of slam poetry, spoken word, and theater into the English and drama class. Poetry Out Loud, which began in 2005, helps students improve public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn great poetry in literature. The upcoming Poetry Out Loud

DIVISION PROFILE Exclusive to Georgia, the Centers of Innovation provide the technical expertise, collaborative research, and partnership opportunities to help Georgia’s strategic industries connect, compete and grow.

QUARTERLY DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS1. PhytoSynthetix / UGA Innovation Grant Project achieves 40 to 1 ROI: UGA

completed a COI-Agribusiness grant supported research project with Georgia-based PhytoSynthetix to induce flowering in short-day plants grown under long day conditions, with the use of far-red LEDs. An Innovation grant from the Centers of Innovation with additional investment by the company for the successful research led to further innovation in their commercial lights. The development of the test facility at UGA allowed the university to attract additional research funding in this area. The total economic benefit so far is over $200,000 for a modest $5,000 of grant funding – a 40 to 1 benefit to grant ratio.

2. Electric Transit Buses Project seeks DoE funding: A team consisting of Clean Cities of Georgia, Center of Innovation for Energy, Ga Tech Venture Lab, and The Southern Company submitted an application to the US Department of Energy for a grant study on the benefits of a concept developed by COI-Energy to facilitate the wider operation of electric busses with retired bus batteries then serving as storage capacity at Georgia Power.

3. COI Logistics hosts sold out Savannah Logistics Lunch: Sponsored by COI-Logistics and HunterMclean Attorneys, the second annual Savannah Logistics Lunch event on July 21st was a great success with 320 in attendance (up 50% from last year). GDEcD Commissioner Chris Carr gave the keynote address followed by a panel discussion featuring representatives from Georgia Tech, CH Robinson, Averitt Express, the Georgia Ports Authority, Decartes and HunterMclean. The event was also livestreamed across the State.

4. COI Agribusiness and Manufacturing join to support food processor Southeastern Mills: Following up from contacts made at the last GDEcD Board meeting tour, COI-Agribusiness and COI-Manufacturing are working with Southeastern Mills on several Innovation Projects in product testing, manufacturing process improvement, and lean training. One first step was a plant

tour with GTRI Food Processing Technology division, UGA Food PIC, COI-Manufacturing and, COI-Agribusiness in October. COI also connected the team to Georgia Northwestern Technical College who will support them with their workforce training needs.

5. COI Energy and Manufacturing supported company surpasses Kickstarter fundraising goal: Replantable, an Atlanta-based indoor agriculture company received significant support from the COIs through product development and promotion that led to major articles in Forbes and Fast Company magazines which allowed them to raise more than $60,000 in their Kickstarter campaign that ended in September.

6. NW Georgia Manufacturing Day: COI-Manufacturing, in partnership with the Georgia Manufacturing Extension Program, Floor360, Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce, Calhoun College and Career Academy, Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy, and Shaw Industries, hosted an event in Dalton for high school students in honor of National Manufacturing Day to raise awareness of manufacturing, with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. Four startup companies gave overviews of their technology and engaged student teams to brainstorm solutions to a problem relevant to the company, presented their findings to the group, with the best concepts receiving award from COI-Manufacturing and Go Build Georgia. Over 100 students participated in the event.

7. COI Aerospace and GDEcD Film Division partner for UAS & Film Workshop: In August, COI-Aerospace and the GDEcD Film Division co-sponsored in August a forum on Unmanned Aircraft Systems uses in the local film industry. 70 UAS and film representatives attended the event which featured a presentation by the FAA on new rules for UAS commercial operations. These new rules make it easier for businesses to use this technology for commercial purposes which will support the growth of this industry in Georgia.

8. Georgia continues to be a hot bed for Cyber Security: COI-IT recently published an article on “Is Public/Private Cooperation the Model to Help Solve the Cyber Security Problem” presenting the case on why the state of Georgia is fast becoming a cyber security hub, with more than 25 percent of the worldwide security revenue market share being generated by companies in Georgia.

9. WR-ALC Connection to Innovation Ecosystem: In September, COI Aerospace collaborated with GTRI to provide an overview of the local innovation ecosystem to Mr. Tom Fischer, Director of Engineering at the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex. Mr. Fischer is interested in establishing closer ties with the innovative culture here in Atlanta and COI-Aerospace is working on follow on activities with the Center of Innovation for Manufacturing and Warner Robins.

to talk with legislators about this industry which has a $50B+ annual economic impact.

FILM, MUSIC AND DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT

DIVISION PROFILE The Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office develops the state’s film, television, & commercial production industries by marketing the state to production companies; location scouting; and coordinating the filming needs of companies with other state agencies, local governments, and citizens. The office actively works to develop the industry’s infrastructure and workforce, certifies projects under the Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act, and oversees the Camera Ready community program to engage municipalities throughout Georgia.

QUARTERLY DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS1. The Georgia Film Office along with Commissioner Pat Wilson and CFO John

Moffatt hosted a dinner at Beauty & Essex in New York City on October 19. The event was attended by representatives from Disney, Marvel Television, NBC Universal, the AMC network, and The Weinstein Company.

2. Fayetteville leaders recently announced detailed plans for an extensive mixed-use development that will be right next to Pinewood Studios. The 234-acre community, Pinewood Forest, will have more than 1,200 residences and 270,000 square feet of office, restaurant and retail space. More than 15 miles of trails and pathways, 118 acres of public green space, community gardens, pools, playgrounds, a dog park and an integrated wellness center are also part of the project.

3. Notable projects currently filming in Georgia include Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” Fox’s reboot of the popular television series “24,” and the Netflix series “Ozark,” which is being directed by Jason Bateman.

produce the Atlanta Horror Fest. The festival strives to promote true underground filmmaking in the Southeast and beyond, while providing the Atlanta area with the best independent horror it can offer.

• Atlanta Jewish Film Festival Atlanta (January 24 - February 15, 2017) - The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) is a 22-day cinematic exploration of Jewish life, culture and history. Seeking to use the power of film to both entertain and educate, AJFF challenges conventional perspectives on complex and challenging issues facing both the Jewish and global communities. In 2015 a record-breaking 38,600+ moviegoers attended the AJFF, cementing its status as the highest attended Jewish film fest on the planet.

• Atlanta Film Festival Atlanta (March 24 - April 2, 2017) - Now in its fourth decade, the Atlanta Film Festival—one of only two dozen Academy Award® qualifying festivals in the United States—is the area’s preeminent celebration of cinema. The Atlanta Film Festival is one of the largest and longest-running festivals in the country, welcoming an audience of more than 25,000 to discover 150-plus new independent, international, animated, documentary and short films selected from 1,800-plus submissions from all over the world.

• Atlanta Shortsfest Atlanta (July 7 - 8, 2017) - Atlanta Shortsfest showcases a diverse mix of short films (under 45 minutes) by filmmakers from across the globe in a wide range of genres. The festival was established to spotlight and promote excellent short films, and provide an important platform to share work with appreciative audiences and fellow filmmakers.

DIVISION PROFILE The Global Commerce team seeks to increase jobs and investment through locating and

expanding businesses, as well as growing small businesses. The Global Commerce team

includes statewide and existing industry project teams, small business, and Georgia’s

international representatives in 11 strategic regions around the world.

QUARTERLY DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS1. Of the top 20 projects since September 2011, four of these were located in the first

quarter of FY17. These four projects alone account for 4,921 new jobs and more than

$697 million investment.

2. On September 12, 2016, Governor Deal announced that Georgia has been named the

No. 1 state in the nation in which to do business for the third consecutive year by Area

Development, a leading corporate site selection and relocation magazine.

3. Georgia was named by Site Selection Magazine as the #1 State for Business for the

fourth consecutive year. Governor Deal announced this at a press conference on

November 2, 2016.

o Team will travel to China in January 2017 to meet with Sentury Tire. Sentury Tire

is headquartered in Qingdao, Shandong, China. The company, which is the fifth-

largest and fastest-growing tire manufacturer in China, will create more than 1,000

jobs and invest $530 million in a car and light truck tire manufacturing operation

in Troup County. The new facility in LaGrange will support Sentury Tire’s existing

customer base in North America.

Record-breaking first quarter for Global Commerce team:

97 projects located, one of which was the second largest investment project in the past five years (Sentury Tire, $530 million investment for Troup County)

10,944 jobs created, which is the highest job creation in a fiscal quarter in the past five years $1.7 billion investment, which is the third highest amount in the past five years

79% of the projects located were outside the 13-county Metro Atlanta region. These projects accounted for 52% of the total jobs created (5,658) and 73% of investment ($1.2 billion).

New locations accounted for 45% of the total investment ($737 million) and 49% of the jobs created (5,338)

Twenty-three international projects were located in Q1 of FY17, resulting in the creation of 2,687 new jobs (25% of total) and $751 million investment (45% of total).

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

DIVISION PROFILE Governor Deal and the State of Georgia are committed to growing Georgia’s reputation as a welcoming and vibrant state for international business and tourists. The International Relations division is dedicated to strategically cultivating and expanding Georgia’s international relationships. The office oversees communications and activities with foreign governments and is the state’s liaison to members of the Consular Corps. The division also manages the Governor’s trade and investment missions, welcomes international delegations and dignitaries and coordinates international efforts among state departments and agencies.

QUARTERLY DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS1. Governor’s Mission to Germany

Governor Nathan Deal and the First Lady traveled to Germany on a week-long economic trade mission in early July. They were accompanied by a twenty-person delegation, including corporate executives from Coca-Cola and Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., leadership from the university and technical college systems of Georgia, as well as Economic Development Commissioner Chris Carr. While in Germany, the Governor attended the Regional Leaders’ Summit, a biennial meeting of a seven member alliance that was founded in 2002 to promote exchanges and to improve competitiveness within specific regions. The alliance is comprised of: Bavaria, Germany; Georgia, USA; Québec, Canada; Shandong, China; São Paulo, Brazil; Upper Austria, Austria; and Western Cape, South Africa. After meeting in Georgia in 2014, this year’s meeting was held in Bavaria, Germany. Since 2002, more than 200 projects have been implemented between partner regions, resulting in collaborative exchanges and effective results. Governor Deal also met with companies that have strong connections to Georgia as well as made prospect calls to a few companies considering expanding to the state. Overseas trips help establish and build relationships with companies by offering face-to-face meetings with corporate executives. In addition, the Georgia delegation used the trip to learn about the world-class German workforce development and apprenticeship programs from companies that operate in Georgia.

15th Annual Protocol and Diplomacy International

Welcomed over 150 protocol professionals from 18 countries in Atlanta for the annual Protocol Officers Association Education Forum. Abby Turano served as program chair for the 3-day event. She was instrumental in organizing the conference and planned breakout sessions which featured industry experts who shared their knowledge on flag protocol, seating, receiving international guests, dining with diplomats and many other related topics. Ember Bishop and Abby Turano moderated plenary panels on the evolution of Georgia’s first ladies and cultural intelligence and awareness.

Country Connections The International Relations division hosted 2 diplomatic visits to Georgia; Wales and Austria and welcomed 2 new Consuls General; Brazil and France

Conversations with the Corps 13 country representatives joined GDEcD’s, IR, Arts and Film teams for breakfast at the Atlanta Ballet’s Corporate offices to learn more about the influence and economic impact the Arts and Film has across the state.

2. Governor’s Mission to Ireland Governor and First Lady Deal traveled to Dublin, Ireland on an economic development mission in September. The mission served as an opportunity to reinforce existing business relationships, meet with companies considering expanding into the state and promote Georgia as an investment, trade and tourism destination. During the trip, Governor Deal met with Irish companies such as Oldcastle, Shire and Voxpro, all of whom contribute tremendously to economic growth in Georgia. The single largest Irish employer in the U.S., Oldcastle’s North American headquarters is located Dunwoody, GA and the company operates a total of 39 facilities in Georgia. Shire, a leading global biotechnology company, recently acquired the new bio-pharmaceutical manufacturing facility east of Atlanta as well as plasma-collection centers throughout Georgia, leading to the creation of more than 1,500 Georgia jobs and total investment exceeding $1 billion. The most recent Irish project in Georgia was initiated by Voxpro, an innovative customer experience and tech support provider. The company’s 2016 announcement to invest $4 million in a new Center of Excellence in Athens-Clarke County will create more than 500 jobs. Additional events included a “Georgia on my Mind” reception for Irish tour operators, travel agents and travel media to generate interest in Georgia and the Southeastern U.S. as a tourist destination. The First Lady also met with the Irish Ministry for Children and Youth Affairs and visited an early educational intervention program modeled after similar programs established in the U.S. The delegation participated in Saturday’s festivities surrounding Georgia Tech’s participation in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. Governor Deal joined Georgia Tech President Dr. Bud Peterson on the field to present Georgia Tech’s football team with the Keough-Naughton Trophy in celebration of their victory over Boston College. Nearly 10,000 Georgians traveled to Dublin over the weekend to attend the game.

3. Commissioner’s Mission to Chile

Commissioner Carr led a trade delegation to Chile with a focus on logistics. The delegation met with ASOEX-Chilean Fruit Exporters Association to discuss economic development opportunities and highlight Georgia’s many logistical assets. The delegation also hosted a logistics reception at SOFOFA, the Federation of Chilean Industry and an Existing Industry Thank You breakfast in Santiago. Companies in attendance included ARAUCO, CMPC and Agrosuper. The breakfast served as an opportunity to thank Chilean companies for their continued business in Georgia and expressed support for Georgia companies doing business in Chile.

4. SEUS-Japan Created in 1976 by former Georgia Governor George Busbee, the Southeast U.S.–Japan Association (SEUS-Japan) was established to promote trade, investment, understanding and friendship between Japan and the southeastern United States. Chief Operating Officer, David Werner, served as the head of delegation and addressed the 39th annual SEUS Japan conference in Tokyo. The delegation was comprised of individuals representing various public and private sector organizations. GDEcD representation included the following: Tom Croteau, Ember Bishop, Dawn Townsend, Danielle Inman, Joseph Huntmann and Yumiko Nakazono. Georgia will serve as host state for the conference in 2019.

UPCOMING EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES• Consular Breakfast An ongoing series of casual breakfast events to gather members of the Consular Corps and

GDEcD leadership, strengthening our relationship with the international community. Our goal is to educate our “local” diplomats about the work GDEcD does, and to strengthen our relationship with the international community. The casual, conversational nature of these events lends itself to relationship building between GDEcD leadership and the Consular Corps. Each event highlights a different division of GDEcD and the focus for December will be Tourism.

DIVISION PROFILE GDEcD’s nationally recognized International Trade Division works to bolster Georgia

exports and brand the state as a competitive source of quality products and services.

The division includes International Representatives located in 11 strategic global markets,

and assists Georgia companies to expand their sales worldwide. The Trade division

provides Georgia businesses with the Global Insight and Global Connections they need to

successfully diversify their international customer base. The division also interfaces with

local, state and federal partners to increase services for Georgia exporters and has been

recognized as a national model for collaboration.

August 1, 2016. Atlanta, Georgia There are currently 520 million online shoppers in China. E-Commerce sales in China are growing at a rate of 25% per year, and are projected to grow to $2 trillion by 2020. In August, Georgia’s Trade Representative in Shanghai, Paul Swenson, hosted a seminar for dozens of Georgia businesses on the opportunities for online sales to China. E-Commerce exports offer low barriers to market entry, low risk, low cost and potentially high returns, particularly for small and mid-sized businesses. 2. ABASTUR Trade Show Helps Georgia Food Companies Sell to Mexico August 29 – September 1, 2016. Mexico City, Mexico In partnership with the Southeastern U.S. Trade Association (SUSTA), GDEcD supported 3 Georgia exhibitors at ABASTUR, one of the biggest hospitality trade shows in Mexico and Latin America. Drawing more than 20,000 trade visitors, with 60% representing restaurants and hotels, ABASTUR represents an opportunity for Georgia food service companies to break into Latin American hospitality markets. 3. Delegation of Japanese Peanut Buyers Visits Georgia September 26-28, 2016. Ocilla and Tifton, Georgia. The American Peanut Council, in collaboration with GDEcD, hosted a delegation of 18 buyers from Japan to tour Georgia in late September. The group met with key peanut industry leaders and participated in a South Georgia peanut tour. The group toured Armond Morris’ farm in Ocilla, as well as Tifton Quality Peanuts and Premium Peanut. The tour concluded with a visit to American Blanching to learn about peanut butter manufacturing. Japan is consistently a top 10 importer of Georgia peanuts. DIVISION PROFILE The Marketing & Communications division manages the agency’s reputation and promotes Georgia’s business, tourism, arts and entertainment assets throughout the state, U.S. and world. Through the integration of print, digital, social media, outdoor and broadcast channels, the division supports the department’s eight operating divisions. This includes new advertising campaigns, the creation of sales and marketing materials, digital advertising, all internal and external communications, media outreach, more than a dozen social media platforms across multiple divisions and the growth of the department’s eleven targeted websites.

Check out our recently produced China investment video. Told in Chinese through the eyes of four Chinese executives, the expansive video provides a compelling message that Georgia is a great place for business and family - 佐治亚是安居乐业的首选之地 - for Chinese companies looking to establish operations in North America. This video features the success stories of Hisense, Sany America, Linhai and Self Electronics.

2. Georgia.org homepage and COI pages redesigned for improved user experience In early July, Marketing & Communications launched a new and improved homepage on Georgia.org. Some of the updates include a wider layout, improved navigation and a greater emphasis on Workforce, our Sites and Buildings Database, Newsroom and the We Speak Business enewsletter. However, the biggest change overall is the focus on thought leadership and content that is unique to Georgia. The Real Success Video Hub and the Case Studies provide credible examples of businesses that are succeeding with our unique culture of collaboration, economic development experience and pro-business climate.

3. Georgia.org certified sites program updated and improved Georgia.org/certified-sites went live in September. The link redirects users to the full list of Certified Sites on InSite – one of GDEcD’s premier site selection tools. There’s also a new tab with easy access and callouts to the three utility companies. Additionally, the GRAD sites pages on Georgia.org have been updated.

4. 1:1 Monetary Match Program supercharges the state’s marketing investments The Tourism Foundation 1:1 Monetary Match Program created more interest and raised considerably more money this fiscal year with partners investing far more money into fall media flights than ever before. As a result, Georgia Tourism was able to have impressive print Special Sections in Atlanta Magazine, Southbound, Southern Living and AJC Intown/Living Northside. The Georgia Tourism Foundation also funded a 1:1 Monetary Match with our media partner Travelport and partners are participating in this program. In Fy17, the Regional Tourism Association’s Grant Program was made more flexible for the state’s nine RTAs.

5. “Most Outstanding Website” awarded to ExploreGeorgia.org music microsite In September, the Web Marketing Association named Explore Georgia’s “Year of Georgia Music” microsite winner of the “Most Outstanding Website” award at the Web Marketing Association’s 2016 WebWards.

6. Successful Bioscience media familiarization tour conducted in August To date, there have been seven published articles directly resulting from the tour. The total estimated reach for these seven is 4,187,738.

DIVISION PROFILE Georgia Tourism, through its network of regional and international representatives, Atlanta office, and 12 visitor information centers, assists the state’s communities and attractions in drawing potential travelers to their areas, and helps individual visitors and groups discover Georgia’s unique vacation options. The Division also helps communities develop well-planned and sustainable tourism products.

QUARTERLY DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS 1. The inaugural performance of the ExploreGeorgia.org Songwriter Series

was held July 29, 2016 in Dublin, Georgia at the Historic Dublin Carnegie. The performing artists include EG Kight, Levi Lowrey and Greg Hester. The series celebrates the “Year of Georgia Music,” the 2016 marketing initiative developed by Georgia Tourism to promote the state as a premier destination for live music and music heritage.

2. The International Team went through an extensive RFP process which resulted in hiring new contractors in Germany to represent Georgia tourism in the German speaking countries of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. LMG’s formidable line-up of senior tourism marketing and PR professionals, as well as their well-established network of influential industry and media partners, will serve Georgia Tourism well. LMG’s specialization in tourism and many years of experience in promoting travel from Germany, Switzerland and Austria to the USA and North America make them ideal partners for the state.

3. On July 10, the China Team coordinated a tour for 150 Chinese exchange students from Georgia Tech to the Outlet Shops of Atlanta in Woodstock for a shopping tour. The outlets sent three coach buses and literally rolled out the red carpet to welcome the Chinese buyers.

4. The third annual Georgia Restaurant Week was held July 17 – 23. Held in partnership with the Georgia Restaurant Association this weeklong event aims to highlight the various dining options that are available to consumers throughout Georgia. This week allows patrons, both local and from out of state, to explore various dining options throughout Georgia for a set price and experience the local Georgia products that are available in Georgia’s restaurant.

5. From August 27 – 30, multiple members of the Georgia Tourism team attended the U.S. Travel Association’s Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations (ESTO). This is the only national forum where tourism destination professionals at the state, region and local level get critical tools, tips and information to help them better market and grow their destinations.

6. The Governor’s Tourism Conference was held September 12 – 14 at the Georgia International Conference Center in College Park. The conference is an opportunity for tourism professionals throughout the state to come together and share ideas, hear from industry experts, learn about trends and issues facing the industry and educate themselves on the latest tools and techniques to promote tourism.

7. On September 20, Georgia Tourism launched its new social media campaign #ExploreGeorgiaPup. The campaign focuses on and encourages pet-friendly travel around the state with trip ideas, itineraries and social media “dogfluencers” as well as partnerships with Georgia State Parks, tourism partners, local pet companies and more. The campaign will run through mid-November.

October 24-26. This meeting allows our remote staff to come together and hear from various speakers, discuss planning, and meet with department Leadership.

• Georgia Tourism will be conducting an East West Marketing China Mission November 9 – 17. During the mission team members will participate in the CITM Trade Show and conduct multiple media and tour operator meetings.

• The final two ExploreGeorgia.org Songwriter Series will be November 19 in Dahlonega at the Historic Holly Theatre and December 2 in Macon at the Historic Douglass Theatre.

• Georgia Tourism will host 6-8 German travel writers on an extensive statewide familiarization tour to Atlanta, Savannah and the Golden Isles November 28 – December 3.

• Georgia Tourism will be promoting the state’s offerings at Travel South USA’s 5th International Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. More than 75 qualified International tour operators from over 15 countries around the globe will attend and meet with 160+ Southern travel suppliers in Atlanta from November 28 - December 1

DIVISION PROFILE The Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Workforce Division (WFD) administers the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) under the leadership of the State Workforce Development Board with the ultimate goal of improving the quality and marketability of Georgia’s workforce to meet the needs of business.

QUARTERLY DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS 1. Georgia WIOA Convening

WFD hosted a two-and-a-half-day training August 1 – 3 for more than 400 workforce development practitioners from across the state. The Georgia WIOA Convening was held at the Cobb Galleria and featured nationally-renowned subject matter experts as well as local speakers. Representatives from GVRA, GDOL, TCSG, and DHS participated and hosted breakout sessions during the convening to offer workforce development strategies from all perspectives.

2. State Launches WorkSource Georgia On Monday, August 1, WFD launched WorkSource Georgia, the state’s first unified brand to represent Georgia’s workforce system. This brand was developed as part of the implementation of WIOA, with the goal of streamlining WIOA-funded services across the state. The brand’s tagline, Connecting Talent with Opportunity, supports the goal of the branding campaign and helps further develop Georgia as a leading state for workforce development.

3. State Announces $250,000 HDCI Sector Partnership Grants On September 13, WFD announced the launch of a $3MM grant program to support the development of sector partnerships in regions throughout the state.
