The Green Transportation SolutionRailroads are the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly mode of surface transportation. Freight railroads transport more than 40 percent of the country’s freight volume, but account for just 2.4 percent of all transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions.

BNSF Railway is an industry leader in driving more environmentally sensitive freight transportation solutions, including carbon footprint reduction and fuel efficiency. BNSF moves a ton of freight 480 miles on a single gallon of fuel.

LPKC is Environmentally FriendlyLPKC is built on BNSF’s decades of experience developing modern logistics facilities that are environmentally friendly. Before construction began, BNSF participated in an extensive environmental review process. Environmentally friendly features of LPKC include:

• Five all-electric wide-span cranes eliminate onsite emissions and reduce noise by:

• Eliminating the use of standard diesel cranes for loading and unloading containers

• Reducing the number of hostlers by stacking and moving containers

• Decreasing diesel locomotive use by reducing switching by spanning multiple, longer loading tracks

• Automated gate systems reduce idling, braking and utilize shutdown rules for the power units — providing optimal efficiency and enhanced security

• Welded / continuous rail and seamless pavement reduce noise

• Dark skylighting decreases glare and transient lighting

• Large conservation corridor will buffer noise and light

• Direct access to I-35 via the new Homestead Lane and Double Diverging Diamond Interchange reduces idling, braking and emissions
