The Corona Crisis as a wake-up call for digitization

Bild: j-mel - stock.adobe.comQuellen: acatech, zeit.de, Die Landesregierung Nordrhein-Westfalen

„The crisis is a wake-up call to push ahead massively with digitization.”Achim Berg, Präsident Bitkom (Bundesverband Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und neue Medien)

„The current crisis has drastically accelerated the realization of the benefits of digitization, but also showed how much still needs to be done.“

Karl-Heinz Streibich, Präsident acatech (Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften)

„We are facing a new stage in the digitalization of the economy. Technologies such as the Blockchain, the Internet of Things or artificial intelligence are fundamentally changing the way we do business […].“

Digital Twins in Supply Chain Management

The Digital Twin (DT) was first defined by NASA in 2010 as a”simulation of a vehicle or system that uses the best available physical models to mirror the life of its flying twin.”

§ The Digital Twin is an evolving digital profile of the historical and current behavior of a physical system, object or process that helps to optimize business performance.

§ Digital Twins are becoming data switching points in the Supply Chain of manufacturers, suppliers and customers.

§ Digital Twins will cover all the useful information from the idea to the engineering, logistics, operation, maintenance, reuse and destruction.
