Login Instructions
1. Switch User– User name = Student ID – Password (case sensitive) =
• Upper case letter• Lower case letter• Five numerals• One symbol (use the shift key)• If your login fails on your first attempt,
contact your teacher (the system lock you out after 3 attempts!)

• Print a list of resources from the Gale Literary Index
• Cross reference the Gale Literary Index list with the library’s holdings (page 6)

Middle Click!
Click Search the Online Catalog
You will be searching for books and ebooks
Open the Online Catalog Tutorial
in a new tab.
Click on the tabto view the tutorial
Read through the slides for tips for
finding literary criticism
Creating a Resource List from the Online Catalog
Click the Pleasant Valley HS Library
tab for the online catalog
Scroll to the top to Log in
Click on the My Info tab to check your account
Remember to renew your book(s)
before they are due!
Click on Resource Lists
Click Add List
Name your list with your First Name Last Name
Lit Crit
Add description
Click Save
Click Catalog to begin adding
resources to your list.
Make sure you are in Power Search
Construct a keyword search combining your
author’s name, title, and the truncated keyword
crit*
Truncation• Identify root or base spelling of a word• Place an asterisk * at the end of the root• Searches for all forms of the word
– e.g. crit*

Click Add Page to Selected List
Clip board icon indicates that the title is in your list
Not enough results for your title?
• Try searching for criticism on your author in general
• Once you find a book on the shelf, you will then need to use the index of the book to locate specific information on your title.
1. Search for your title, author and crit* as a keyword
2. If more sources are needed search for your author with crit*
Remember to try ALL searches!
3. If all else fails, just search for your author using the first and last name!

author’s first name if you get false hits.

You should view the details to determine if
the book is appropriate

stories; so, I won’t add it to my list.
Click details to read the summary and subject headings.
And add to list from this view

Printing a Resource List from the Online Catalog
Click In This List to see your list
To print your completed list click
In This List link from the results list
or detailed record screen

Unwanted items may be removed
Choose email this list
Add your pvbears.org email address
and a message and click Send
To print your list, click Printable
The reformatted list opens in a new

to view the tutorial
Read all 13 slides,then perform your search
in the database.
Keep the tutorial and database open so you can tab back and forth.
