E-Learning content: Doors and windows: Doors are consisted of different components, including door leaf, handle, rough opening, head, jamb, architrave, stop and sill. It can be illustrated by the following sketch:

Door leaf can be defined as the door

itself and the path it travels in. it is flexible, some door leaves can be designed to travel 90 degrees, while some can travel 180 degrees or more depends on different types. Handles or latches are types of door or window fastener. It is always set up away from the stop according to force and convenience. Stop is the axis which the door leaf is rotating around. (See the following:)

Rough opening is the opening in a wall into which a door or window is to be installed. (Windows and Doors, 2012). Jamb is the vertical portion of the frame onto which a door is secured. (Door Jamb, 2013). Jamb can not only support the weight of the slab above, it can also provide overall operational durability and security of the door. Architrave is the lintel or beam that rests on the capitals of the columns. (Architrave, 2014), while doorsill is the threshold of the doorway.

The component of door leaf: For timber and steel doors, the three main components are called top rail, mid rail and bottom rail which distributed at the top, middle and bottom of the door leaf. Top rail, mid rail and bottom rail are used to stabilize the overall structure of the door leaf. For the area in between, glass or hollow infill can be added from aesthetic prospective.

Other types of the door: 1. Aluminum door & frames

(especially in commercial buildings, but cleaning progress is difficult and complicated.)

2. Steel door Windows: Types of windows: 1. Timber window 2. Aluminum window 3. Steel window (lighter) Steel windows are not cost effective, unlike timber window.

Glass (silicate) Fluxes help the formation to melt at lower and practical temperatures. Some properties of glass: Porosity---non-porous/waterproof Density---medium high, 2.7x greater than water Conductivity---conduct heat, but not electricity Hardness---high Fragility---high Ductility---very low Flexibility------high Durability---high Reusability---high Sustainability---high embodies energy Cost---expensive to produce and transport

Glossary: 1. Window sash is the framed part

of the window which holds the sheets of glass in place.

2. Door furniture is the handles, locks and other fixtures on the door.

3. Stress is the pressure or tension exerted on a material object.

4. Moment of inertia is the mass property of a rigid body that defines the torque needed for a desired angular acceleration about an axis of rotation.

5. Shear force are unaligned forces pushing on part of a body in one direction, and another part of body in the opposite direction.
