Fraternally yours,
Mike Patterson
Exalted Ruler
Greetings fellow Elks,
I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. We have had a lot going on around the lodge. We
even had an ugly sweater contest, I wonder who won? Watching Lodi Elks Lodge 1900
members, enjoying the lodge over the Holidays has been great. Everyone having such a
good time and in the process donating revenue for our charities.
This Lodge has great fellowship . If you want know what I'm talking about come to your
lodge and enjoy a great lunch during the week (11:30 to 1:30). Debbie and Jennie, our
wonderful cooks are putting out some very, very delicious meals.
Hope to see you all at the Crab Feed on January 19. I hear we have over 200 signed up.
Wow!
We will be working on storage for the bar soon. Do you have spare time to help? Call me or
the office. We also need help with a Lodge clean up party! The lodge needs 6 or more guys
to move things out and tidy up our building. Please join in. Call the office or me for the
info. We still need your help. Join in and have fun by helping this Lodge stay alive!
Well, as you know from reading these news letters, I like to keep it short.
Always in Order

Elk of the Month
Elk of the Month is my favorite thing to do as ER. This is someone that steps up to help the lodge and it can be at a variety of levels. Lodge officers always display this by stepping and taking on our requirements set forth by Grand Lodge. This month we have an officer that takes on the important position of Trustee. He is always available to help in any way he can. He has displayed this month after month. He even volunteers the first and third Thursdays of every month, his time and equipment for members to enjoy some karaoke. He is a great Elk, Above and beyond. It is with great pleasure to announce Dennis Schimke as Elk of the Month.

Notice of Proposed Change to By-Laws and Rules of the Order
Lodi, CA Lodge No. 1900 Proposal: ARTICLE V, Section 4 The affected portion of the sixth paragraph of Art. V, Section 4, addressing payment to our Lodge Secretary, reads at present: “…He will work 3 hours per day, 5 days per week. For the faithful performance of his duties he shall receive as compensation $10.50 per hour, currently amounting to $157.50 per week; $682.50 per month; or $8190 per year, payable semi-monthly retroactive to January 1, 2019.” (Affected portion in bold italic. This would be removed and replaced by the proposed text, below). This proposed change would read: “…His/Her schedule shall not exceed 3 hours per day, 5 days per week. For the faithful performance of his duties he shall receive as compensation $11.00 per hour, currently amounting to $165.00 per week; $715.00 per month; or $8580.00 per year, payable semi-monthly.” Retroactive to January 2019. In addition, according to California State Law this hourly wage will increase by $1.00 per hour for each of the next 4 years. Yearly Budget will be as follows: 2020 = $9,360.00, 2021 = $10,140.00, 2022 = $10,920.00, 2023 = $11,700.00. (Proposed text in bold italic. This would be inserted in place of the affected portion, above). Relevant Legislation: California Senate Bill No. 3, filed with the Secretary of State on April 04, 2016 reads, in pertinent part: “(2) …. On and after January 1, 2016, existing law requires the minimum wage for all industries to be not less than $10 per hour.” SB3 continues, mandating progressive wage increases for employers with 25 employees or less, as follows: “Jan 1, 2017: $10.00/hour; Jan 1, 2018: $10.50/hour; Jan 1, 2019: $11.00/hour…” etc. Discussion: Where there is a conflict between an employer’s policy and local, state, or federal law, the highest authority rules. California Minimum Wage Law mandates that, instead of paying our Secretary “$2400 per annum” (1900 By-Laws) we must pay “$10.50 per hour” (SB3). Also, unquestionably, we must apply this law retroactively--at least back to January 1, 2019. SB3 also provides for penalties “per violation”, meaning each payday not in compliance may be treated as a separate violation--particularly since we’ve long known of this law, but have delayed its adoption. The vote on this bylaws change will be held at our next regular meeting, on January 23, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.
Delinquent Members - 2018-2019 Elk Year Your $115.50 dues should have been paid by now; you need a Red Key Card for entrance to the Lodge and the Bartenders should be asking to see everyone’s Cards before being served. The Elks are a worthy organization and we are sure it is just an oversight that your name is listed here. Know that we have already paid $25.50 for each name to California-Hawaii and Grand Lodge; this is YOUR money.
We must drop you from Membership on March 28, 2019 if you do not pay. If you have paid and have a cancelled check please let us know; errors happen and we will apologize like crazy for printing your name and will print a retraction. Please stay with us! Some of these members may have moved, or our address is incorrect; hopefully any incorrect addresses can be fixed; let the Office know.
