Modern Lviv has 800 thousand inhabitants and covers 155 square km. The first mentioning of the city in the Chronicle was in 1256 - this year is considered to be the year of foundation of Lviv. Though, in 2000 archaeology discoveries indicated, that the city existed 200 years before the year which was mentioned in the Chronicle. The city appeared in the second quarter of the 13-th century on the hills of the Castle Hill, where King Danilo Halytsky constructed his castle
Lviv Opera House is the architectural masterpiece of Zygmunt Gorgolevsky. It was constructed in a record term - in three years only, from 1897 till 1900.
Danylo Halytsky, who constructed his Castle on the High Castle Hill, is considered to be the founder of our city.
