High quality, cost effective contract fermentation and manufacturing services.

Location and PurposeFermentation is a critical service for biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and biologics industries. Located on Utah State University’s Innovation Campus, the Synthetic Biomanufacturing Facility is designed and staffed to optimize and scale-up commercial development and production of bioproducts. The facility provides production capabilities for statewide university research and private industry through state-of-the-art equipment and technical support, including a world-class fermentation lab.

The primary purpose of the fermentation lab is to generate substantial quantities of biomolecules for commercialization and scale-up performance evaluation. The capabilities of this facility provide scale-up optimization of fermentation bioproducts that can be grown and analyzed under a variety of growth conditions for maximum product yield and quality.

Planning for the future, the lab design allows room for the expansion and addition of equipment as demand increases.

Contract Manufacturing and Equipment UseAvailable for contract manufacturing and equipment use, the Synthetic Biomanufacturing Facility offers a wide range of lab-to-pilot scale fermenters for process development, testing and production. The lab provides two New Brunswick BioFlo Pro 400 liter fermenters to allow process optimization with a variety of setup options and data collection resources. A 100 liter New Brunswick BioFlo 610 fermentation system provides steam-in-place capability, is fully automated and is available stand-alone or as a seed reactor. Several sizes of centrifuges and tangential flow filtration devices are available for cell and product recovery.
