FANWOOD – The Carriage HousePoetry Series in Fanwood invites thepublic to enjoy an evening of poetryreadings by Maria Mazziotti Gillanand Joe Weil on Tuesday, September20. The free poetry performances willbegin promptly at 8 p.m. in the PatriciaKuran Arts Center on Watson Road,off North Martine Avenue, adjacentto Fanwood Borough Hall (GPS use75 N. Martine Avenue, Fanwood).
Maria Mazziotti Gillan is theFounder/Executive Director of thePoetry Center at Passaic County Com-munity College in Paterson, and edi-tor of The Paterson Literary Review.She also is the Director of the Cre-ative Writing Program and Professorof Poetry at Binghamton University(SUNY). Maria is a recipient of the
2008 American Book Award for herbook, All That Lies Between Us. Shehas published 20 books, includingAncestors’ Song, Writing Poetry toSave Your Life, and the bi-lingual(English and Italian) poetry collec-tion, In a Place of Flowers and Light.
Joe Weil is an assistant professor atBinghamton University who teachespoetry and fiction at the graduate andundergraduate levels. He is a notedperformer of poetry and music andhas been featured on PBS’ Foolingwith Words with Bill Moyers, in TheNew York Times, and at the New Jer-sey Performing Arts Center, the De-troit Opera House, Poets’ House, andat Geraldine R. Dodge poetry festi-vals. Since 2008, Joe has publishedfour volumes of poems, includingPainting the Christmas Trees, ThePlumber’s Apprentice, and The GreatGrandmother Light: New and Se-lected Poems.
The Carriage House Poetry Seriesis currently in its eighteenth year atthe Kuran Arts Center, an historicGothic Revival structure that was oncea 19th century carriage house, hencethe name of the series. The Septem-ber 20 reading is free and open to thepublic. An open mic reading withlocal poets will follow the featuredperformance.

Poet Robert Cozzi toBe at Town Book Store
WESTFIELD – The Town BookStore will be hosting another Meetthe Author event for poet Robert Cozzion Saturday, September 10 from 2p.m. to 4 p.m. His new compilation,Blanket of Hearts, is his most inti-mate collection of work to date. Anexcerpt taken from the book’s fore-word reads, “Blanket of Hearts fea-tures poetry from Robert A. Cozziregarding the often-harsh terrain andmine-studded landscape of relation-ships. From Haunting My EmptyArms to Flashes of Mad Happiness,he reminds us that love is worth thecost it demands of us.”
Mr. Cozzi was raised in Westfieldand graduated from Westfield HighSchool (WHS) in 1982. Educated atJames Madison University and NewYork University, Mr. Cozzi has main-tained a daily journal since he was inthe ninth grade, where a favoredteacher, Mr. Kocum, encouraged hiswriting.
Many years ago, after reconnect-ing with fellow writer and WHS class-mate, Gerard Yatcilla, Robert begancomposing new writing pieces everyweek, which he shares with his fol-lowers via the Internet. His followersare all over the globe, including En-gland and many parts of Europe, Aus-tralia and the entire continental States.
