Postal Elections and PollsAn extraordinary election and a poll is being held under the Local Government Act 1995.

To participate in the election and poll, just follow the simple instructions in this brochure, complete the ballot paper(s) and return promptly by post.

• You are encouraged to vote in this election and poll, however it is not compulsory.

• If you choose not to vote, it is important that you dispose of this election package carefully.

• It is your responsibility to properly complete your ballot paper(s) and elector’s certificate and post them in time to be counted.

Instructions on ‘How to Vote’ are on the ballot paper. It is important to read and follow these instructions carefully to ensure your vote counts.

Make sure you post your vote in plenty of time, the Returning Officer must receive it before 6.00 pm on election day.

Replacement PackagesIf you make a mistake in marking your ballot paper(s) or misplace any of your papers, you can obtain replacements at your local government office.

Electoral Gifts Register The electoral gifts register is available for inspection by any voter prior to the election at your local government office.

Your Vote is SecretThe elector’s certificate with your personal details will be detached from your ballot paper envelope before it is opened.

Elector’s certificates and ballot papers are processed by independent officers of the Western Australian Electoral Commission.

For your vote to be counted, you must sign the certificate attached to the ballot paper envelope.

Voting in Postal ElectionsThis postal voting election package is your only opportunity to vote in this election and poll. There is no ordinary voting on election day.

Polling places on election day are only open for the hand delivery of voting packages or to issue replacement packages.

This is your Postal Voting Election Package. It contains:

• for an election of a mayor, president or councillor:

– appropriate ballot paper(s) with profiles of each of the candidates attached

• for the poll;

– a poll ballot paper with an instruction sheet attached

• a ballot paper envelope with an elector’s certificate attached; and

• a postage pre-paid envelope addressed to the Returning Officer.

If any of these papers are missing from your package please contact the Western Australian Electoral Commission.
