Shane WILSON

My principal place of residence is in the TimaruDistrict Council area.

As a Timaru resident I believe it is important forthe council to have a fair representation of thedistrict as a whole. As a hardworking, young manI believe that I am better able to represent other

young people of the district to have a more inclusive councildirection. At the moment there does not seem to be muchinterest, as a whole, in local politics. This means that the councilmay end up going in a direction that does not reflect the districtas a whole, my aim is to make sure that this does not happen bybringing in as much interest as possible, from the community, inthe decisions the council makes. By having a younger voice leadthe way we can strive for a future Timaru District whereeveryone feels that their voice is heard no matter whatdemographic or background they come from.

Its about goodconversation, a willingness to listen and support those ideas andthen to advocate them back to the council in a positive manner. It would be an honour to represent a community I have longbeen involved with and have a great passion for.

We all want to live in a town that's vibrant andgood for everyone, young or old. That's why Ichoose to live in Timaru.

The challenges of an ageing population and ongoing financialpressures need innovative thinking. Our Arcadia Night Marketshowed what happens when you mix new ideas, creative peopleand historic buildings - a strategic plan for Caroline Bay and theCBD is essential to support events and encourage new business.Climate change also requires tough decisions to ensure ourfuture health and prosperity.A vote for me is a vote for a fresh voice - a voice that's youngenough to be optimistic but old enough to be realistic. With abackground in health and recent experience in localgovernment, I'm standing for both, because I believe goodhealth and good business will make Timaru the prime place tovisit, to live and to do business.

Dave JACK

The talk around town is that our Council needschange. But with change we also need to ensurewe retain experience and integrity. With a strong, clear voice I bring these attributes

to the table. I am not afraid to hold people to account withinCouncil and have played an integral role in previous challengesand big decisions Council has had to make. Past projects which demonstrate this is the implementation ofthe 321 Zero Waste Minimisation, Cbay Aquatic Centre, DistrictPool upgrades, Caroline Bay Refurbishment, Council OfficeRebuild, Sewage & Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade andmore recently the Temuka water supply renewal and airportupgrade.I would look to continue to support the delivery of planningand policies that will further facilitate economic growth for ourregion.A vote for Dave Jack is a vote for experience, integrity and aclear strong voice for you - the ratepayer.

Timaru district needs to be a vibrant, attractiveplace to live. The council however needs to balance that byliving within its means and spending carefully.

I am born and bred in Timaru, and have been involved withmany organisations and am passionate about the district.I am however concerned for our ageing ratepayers. The projected rate rises approved by the TDC in their long termplan equates to a 50 per cent increase by 2028. The councilneeds to work hard to reduce that increase. Priorities include attracting new businesses and residents tosupport the local economy, as well retain what we already have. The TDC also needs to be more transparent about its plans anddecision-making processes and also have open communicationwith ratepayers.I won't be afraid to ask the hard questions and make the toughdecisions.

The community is at the heart of my campaign.I've been working hard through my charitableand business endeavours to make Timaru thevibrant, beating heart of South Canterbury.

Planning for growth is the key to success. Enabling andsupporting events will attract people to visit our town and helpus keep more of our young people here - with an ageingpopulation, we need them more than ever before. Along withevents, strategic development of the CBD and Caroline Bay isessential and needs a high level of planning and engagement.Backed by project management and marketing experience Ihave the skills and vision to help Timaru grow and prosper. Avote for me is a vote for sustained growth - for engaging withthe community, being open to new ideas, enabling events andencouraging development, making Timaru the place to visit andthe place to stay.

I'm active on three water management committees, representing the voice of this community. My life has been as a primary producer living and working withthe natural environment. The 2019 elections are the first time in 11 years that you, thevoter, have the opportunity to choose your electedrepresentative. In what has been a time of bogus democracy, impairment hasbeen done to the concept of 'governance for the people by thepeople'. Large bureaucracies, with huge rate rises andcentralised power, have tainted the notion of local solutions tolocal issues.I have the knowledge and experience to correct that damage.Councils, are here to serve the constituents, not rule as a giantcentral administration controlling with rules regulation andthreats.Every new rule is a loss of someone's liberty.I support freedom, liberty and choice.

I am a 46-year-old New Zealand-born scientistwith 17 years' experience in geochemistry, forensic science, environmental analyticalchemistry, and biomedical science.

In 1995, scientists warned of the risk of a large earthquake inChristchurch, yet their warning was not acted on. Now, over-reliance on large-scale dairying has resulted in nitrate-contaminated water, presenting a health risk to Cantabrians, yet local government response has been slow. This disconnectbetween science and local governance has serious consequencesfor our people and environment. In South Canterbury, climate change means loss of snow andglaciers, with sea level rise impacting our coastal towns. However, warmer temperatures will increase the growingseason, providing opportunities for new crops.Climate change is both a risk and an opportunity.
